Delicious fresh, natural Uhuru Pies are available for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The funds raised from the sale of these pies support the economic development and self-​determination programs of the Uhuru Movement. Uhuru Pies is a holiday tradition in the Bay Area. Individuals, businesses and community organizations can buy and sell Uhuru Pies and volunteer.

History

Established in 1981.

Uhuru Pies started as part of the solidarity movement in the Bay Area, under the leadership of the black community for reparations to African people. The sale of the pies supports the right and ability of the black community to change their conditions.

I buy at least 3 pies every year (2 for Thanksgiving and 1 for Christmas). They get better every year! I love the sweet potato (it’s clearly made from scratch) and the vegan berry is one I get asked about at Thanksgiving gatherings a lot. (It goes well with leftover turkey sandwiches!)
Not only are the pies delicious, but they benefit an important community project: investing in the well-​being and economic freedom of Africans around the world.

Their boxed pie doesn’t come with LABELS on it – strange isn’t it. Is that even legal?
In addition their site has a .ORG extension which doesn’t seem right for a business.
You can’t find out what the ingredients are unless you go on the web site. In my case I can’t have alcohol and I almost ate some of their pecan chocolate pie — then I saw on the site that they use «bourbon butter» which is NOT indicated on the label.
Very bad bad bad.
