Two Jacks Denim

One of a kind shop! Hopefully you know a little about raw denim before you wander in here or you might just think «wow these jeans are hella expensive!» and leave. No, this is an awesome store catering to a specific style and customer. Two Jacks is the Oakland equivalent of SF’s Self-​Edge, but thankfully, they each carry different brands, so each is it’s own experience. The owner and clerk were very helpful in helping me find just the right pair and I absolutely love my 3Sixteen’s! They get more comfy every day. Everyone should own one pair. Eat Top Ramen for two months if you have to.

Incredible service — Tommy walked me through all the brands in the store and tracked what fit as I tried on pair after pair. Felt great about my purchase and, as a result of Tommy’s patience and help, I have a pair of jeans I really enjoy wearing. I’ll be back.

3:18 ‘be right back’ on door, second time this has happened. Clothes look great but I can’t get to them!

An update — I talked to Tommy today, he did leave me a message last Friday. He does care about his customers — I definitely overreacted in the moment. It’s rarely ever I had a business owner call me or shoot me a message here on Unilocal for good or bad reviews. Tommy’s gesture was heartfelt and I look forward to buying a really nice pair of jeans in the future. My beloved Sevens live to see another day (need I add that the repair method is the same as Denim Therapy in LA, but with much less downtime!), and as they say all is good in the hood.

Happened into the shop just by chance. I’m a denim fan, particularly of raw selvedge. This place has a excellent selection of North American crafted pieces. Further, the owner is super nice and passionate about what he carries. I didn’t buy anything, but I left feeling that I want to give this place my business. Great products in a independent shop run by good people.
Neg reviews here are on the return policy — and truly 7 days is standard. With raw selvedge, wear the return doesn’t really work. Also, I have never had a sales clerk explain the return policy on checkout, ever. Lofty expectations there. The fact that it’s on the receipt and there is a sign by the register seems plenty reasonable to me.

Perfect store for my limited attention span and needy standards. Tried on a pair of jeans to set a benchmark. Took suggestions based on that and a pair of jeans purchased a few tries later. Nice selection, great service and quirky enough to ensure I’ll be back… Just hopefully not at the same time as the misshapen fool that wrote the super long critical review on this place below!

Tommy’s shop is amazing. He has a huge selection of denim and is super knowledgeable. My partner picked up a pair from two jacks and now wears them almost everyday. Definitely a great spot to check out when you’re in Oakland.
He also plays an awesome selection of blues, how could you go wrong?

This store is a great addition to Oakland. Everything for sale is American made and is top notch! The owner of the store is extremely knowledgeable about anything to do with various denim, fabrics, leather etc and is consistently pleasant!
You will definitely see price tags that are probably more than you are used to, but for clothing that will last you 10 years or more (and look better with age) it’s definitely a bargain.

Ventured into Oakland about a week ago and chanced upon this shop. Given that I’ve been looking to make the foray into raw denim, I decided to try on a couple pairs. I have athletic legs and thighs paired with a slim frame so generally finding jeans is a nightmare. I’ve heard good things about selvedge denim molding to your body shape and that the waist would stretch, which sounds good, but makes it hard to think of what size to get. I ended up with a pair of jeans a size up from my regular size. I thought about them for about a day, tried them on once at home and decided to return them. I go into the shop and ask to make a return to the owner. He said with a little rudeness/​presumptuousness (similarly noticed from the other one star review) that they do not take returns. It was just then that I noticed a blurb on the bottom of the receipt that says their are no returns and no exchanges past 7 days. If you ask me the return policy is the cashiers job to vocalize as they do at many other shops, especially one as strict as this. I now have money on a gift certificate that I am obligated to spend at this shop, even though he took the perfect condition jeans back and will again sell them at full price. If you are looking for a shop that’s a little better customer service and don’t mind travelling a little further try Unionmade in San Francisco, Reid was awesome in helping my friend find a pair of jeans, and you don’t have to be concerned about the return policy. Thanks a lot!
Edit: 12÷11÷15 I doubled checked with my friend and he is correct about Unionmade’s return policy being similiar although according to my friend they do vocalize it better; I added an extra star to compensate for my mistake. I do mantain however that the atmosphere is a little warmer at Unionmade so keep my suggestion in mind.

Cool store. I was about to go to Nordstroms but decided to pop in here to look for a nice gift for my bf’s birthday. I found a red button down shirt made from good sturdy material. I was worried that it might be too red or not comfortable for him but it turned out to be 100% perfect.
The color was more like a red burgundy on and my bf looked super handsome in his new shirt.
The store owner was helpful and tried on the shirts, making sure I got the right size for my bf.
This is a nice upscale store with unique items. If you have that special person in your life and want to get him/​her something nice, you should shop here!

Such an outstanding shop for American made denim and accessories. From product selection to customer service, this place truly shines through and through. The owner, Tommy, is incredibly knowledgable, patient, and friendly with anyone who walks through the door. Keep great businesses like theses alive in Oakland by coming in and spending your hard earned money on goods that are worth it.

Tommy the owner was super helpful. I came in looking for some rogue territory jeans and unfortunately he did not have my size. He was able to order the right size for me and gave me a call back when he received them. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for any raw denim jeans made in the USA if you are around the area.

Maybe I’m a Hater, but I went in a while back & wasn’t impressed. Went in looking for Prison Blues jeans, because the website said you can find em at Two Jacks. They’re made in Oregon of US cotton (14.5 oz for you denim nerds) but they cost about $ 40, as opposed to the $ 200+ stuff this place has. I like em cause they’re 14.5oz AND made by dudes who would otherwise be spending their days finding creative ways to be better criminals. Found the shirts but no jeans. I asked the owner why that is, and he said «I don’t want to attract the wrong crowd» — no seriously, those were his exact words. I get it, you want to enjoy the relative low cost of operating that comes with being in a «wrong crowd» populated area, you just don’t want them in your shop. If you’re one of those dudes that has the Hitler Youth + Man Beard combo to go along with a fat wallet (fool don’t act like you don’t know), you’d probably like this place, cause you’re the right kind of crowd. Or if you’re one of the Right Kind of Black people I bet they’d take your money too.

This store is fantastic! Everything is made in the USA and the quality is amazing. Tommy is a real nice and cool guy and he knows his denim. I recommend this store to anyone looking to get a pair of the finest jeans around!

WARNING these jeans are not cheap, but I feel I got what I paid for. Amazing jeans made in america and made to last.

OMG, what a nice guy and a cool store! I am an avid denim junkie and this guy knows his stuff. Tommy, the owner, is about as cool as it gets. I went in and wanted to check things out and tried on a bunch of different jeans. I found a style I liked, but needed a smaller size, so he contacted the company and ordered them for me. Super cool and nice of him! Anyway, if you want a great, long-​lasting, made in the US pair of jeans, then this is the place. Of course these jeans are more expensive, but they are cooler than the crap you can buy at some box store, they get great worn in marks and whiskering! These are they things that can last you a lifetime (or, at least close to it!) He also sells nice, US made shirts and jackets and belts and wallets and socks!!! Support him! Keep your money in Oakland and support small businesses.

I have stopped in to admire these jeans before, and they are jeans that command respect. You can see that they’re made with care and precision.
So when I wanted to get my wife a present to celebrate her new job, I brought her here for a pair of jeans. She has more of a man’s body shape from the waist down, and always wears men’s jeans.
The owner is, I think, the person who helped us, and I didn’t get his name, but others say it’s Tom, so we’ll go with that. Tom was very attentive, and he didn’t lie to her to sell pants. Instead he patiently brought out different cuts until we found the right one, and we all agreed that was it, like when you find your wedding dress. Let’s face it, she’ll get way more wear out of these jeans at a mere fraction of the cost. WIN.

Great men’s store. Knowledgeable and friendly owner. I left with a great pair of jeans– and plan to go back for more!

I live in the neighborhood and stopped into Two Jacks Denim on the advice of a friend. I wasn’t a fan of raw denim before, but after speaking with Tom, the owner, I have to say that I can’t wait to buy my first pair of raw denim jeans from him! It’s lovely to have met a local business owner who is passionate, friendly and excited about the product that they are selling. I buy local when I can, but have gotten somewhat fed up with their lacking customer service.
I am so happy to have Two Jacks Denim in the neighborhood. I stopped by last week with my boyfriend and Tom told me that they were going to be carrying women’s jeans soon and I can’t wait! Stop by when you’re in the neighborhood to meet Tom and check out the store, I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed!

I stopped into Two Jacks Denim because I am a fan of American made raw denim and because I live in the area. The moment I stepped into the shop, I was greeted by Tom, the owner, and was fascinated with his knowledge and fervor for raw denim. He knows what he’s talking about, he’s very helpful, friendly and will be keeping me outfitted in quality menswear from here on out. His service, willingness to help and personality gives him an edge over other local businesses.
