I saw fortunate enough to try The Veg Hub in the Concord Farmer’s Market one Thursday evening. It’s always nice having a vegan spot pop-up so close to home. I just wish that the sandwiches had more toppings, so vegans and non-vegans alike would«ooh» and«ahh» at their glorious appearance. I ordered a Philly Cheeze«Steak». My sandwich consisted of cold bread with cheeze sauce and sliced«steak», with a bit of sauerkraut. But where were the peppers and onions?! Nowhere to be seen. Heck I would have settled for lettuce, tomatoes, pickles. If they had it available, I would have loved to throw some avocado on there for good measure. Alas, this place does not have avo. Sad face, tear, whimper. Let’s be frank. I eat out A LOT. I am lucky enough to consume a ton of delicious food and I take photos of nearly everything exciting that passes these lips. I like my sammies to be bursting with lots of fresh produce and maybe some kind of creamy sauce or aioli, for optimal taste and aesthetics. This sandwich was severely lacking in the toppings department. The greens that I ordered on the side were a little bit overcooked, so they were a touch watery/soggy, but it’s great that there was a healthy option as a side dish. I may not cook much at home, but even I know that when sauteeing vegetables, less is more. Also, I would say that the bread should be toasted slightly, just to give it that extra crunch when biting into it. It would also provide extra structural stability, as the moisture of the mock meat and cheese made my buns too soft. They are fairly new, so I’m sure with some time, the kinks will be worked out and the quality of the food will go sky-high. I have faith in you, Veg Hub.

Excellent vegan cheese sauce! Wish the Philly had some grilled onions in it and the bread is a little dry. But overall great food for farmers market and super friendly people.

Just talked to them at their stand on their first day at the Uptown Oakland Farmers Market. Very friendly! They say they will be there now every Wed 10 – 2. Yeehah! As a lover of plant-based foods, I’m super excited about this. So I’m giving them a provisional 5 star rating and will see if they live up to it when I visit them next week. They said they don’t have a storefront yet, but that they do catering. Awesome. See you next week. PLANT-BASED!

I found The Veg Hub at the Concord Farmer’s Market last night(Thursday). With No No Burger being on hiatus, it was great to see a The Veg Hub there! I spoke with general manager, Chef Chew, and he mentioned that their cheeze and mock meats were made in house — very impressive! He also mentioned they plan on doing a meal delivery service as well as offer cooking classes to the community. Last night, they had two types of quesadillas, Philly Cheeze«Steak» and Grilled«Chicken» served with choice of sauces such as Bar B Chew, Sweet N Sour, and Tex Mex Salsa. They also had Soul Food Greens. At first I wasn’t sure if quesadilla and greens went well with each other but I decided to give it a try. I ordered a combo of quesadilla and greens for $ 9.00. The quesadilla was packed full of rice, cheeze(looked like cashew based), soy based«chicken», and greens. It was pretty tasty and filling! I tried both the Bar B Chew sauce and salsa and I enjoyed them both as condiments for my quesadilla. The Soul Food Greens were delicious and had a lot of flavor. Surprisingly, the greens went well with the quesadilla especially with the BBQ sauce; it was like a Soul Food/Tex Mex fusion. My only suggestion is I hope they expand their menu and offer more choices and maybe add a dessert. Perhaps offer some barbecued items(like tofu or tempeh) and/or add nachos with cashew cheeze and all the fixings. I’m glad The Veg Hub found its way to Concord. I had a very good first impression and I will be back!
