The Rusty String Express celebrates string band traditions of the past while stretching into the unknown. Creating original music with unique and familiar flavors — The RSE is an exciting mash up of acoustic excitement, bubbling creativity, and excellent musicianship. Best of all are the original tunes coming out of this creative quartet. Aaron Balano on dobro, Alison Bailey Streich on violin, Greg Dunn on bass and Morgan Cochneuer on guitar. These four magnetic musicians run the gamut with their playing, and all four are masterful wielders of their instruments. Their music ranges from sensitive and soulful interpretations, to wild and unexpected music you’ve never heard before.

History

Established in 2009.

The Rusty String Express is the lovechild of the jug band The Boweavils. When The Boweavils’ frontman Jeb Brady passed away, The Boweavils reinvented themselves as The Rusty String Express. While celebrating string band traditions of the old days, this creative quartet creates original instrumental music with unique and familiar flavors. Audiences love this exciting mash up of acoustic excitement, bubbling creativity, and excellent musicianship. Swanky string band music at its finest!

We hired the Rusty String Express based on their positive reviews and hearing a few songs online, and they truly delivered all that others had said. Working with them leading up to the wedding was easy. Alison was patient with my many questions and always had great ideas on songs we might like. We used their original music for our wedding processional and recessional, and it was perfect — exactly what we wanted. They continued to play during our cocktail hour, and everyone LOVED their sound, their cool instruments and upbeat attitude. We would highly recommend them and would hire them again if the occasion arises.

The ability to transport you back in time, then throw in modern pieces that rock on strings is a rare gift… IMPRESSIVE! The band learned a new song to help make our special day even more special. I couldn’t have had a better experience with the Rusty String Express! Their music was perfect for our rustic wedding, and I received several compliments from our guests. My only regret is not having them play longer. Alison is extremely sweet and accommodating, and their music is phenomenal.

We were fortunate enough to find The Rusty String Express for our wedding. After searching & searching for a bluegrass style band we happened to see them performing at Lagunitas. Our guests are still raving about the music, I only wish we could have had them play longer… I guess we’ll just have to throw another party, so we can have The Rusty String Express play again. A hidden gem, worth every penny and then some!
