I just had lunch(coffee and a egg salad sandwich) at The Coffee Mills and the experience was terrible. The lady behind the sandwich counter was extremely rude and pushy. By the way it was not busy at all. However the young man behind the coffee bar was very pleasant and respectful. The sandwich was okay at best and the coffee sucked. If ever on Lakeshore you would do better by going to another café.

I rarely post 1 star reviews for places that didn’t screw anything up. The service is fine. The seating area is quiet and relaxed. But the quality of food is so far inferior to other bfast spots around here, and without the prices being lower. Just wait in line at Lynn & Lu’s next door, it’s worth it.

great service but sadly mediocre food — it’s got all the classic breakfast items but the execution is bland and uninspiring. it’s slightly better than chain restaurants like Dennys but not by much and you’re paying premium prices.

I actually really enjoyed this place. It wasn’t busy at the the time I went(about 150pm). Get here before 2.15p because that’s when the chef leaves. Service was great and quick. Food was pretty good also. So far, just about all the diners I’ve tried have been about the same in terms of quality. A few good thing about this place compared to others are that the food will come out fresh and cooked to order, the portion sizes are larger than normal and plenty of seating . The Décor here was off but other than that, I’ll definitely be back . Happy eating ‘ D

Food was mediocre and SOOVERPRICED. 10 dollars for a breakfast burrito? With no sides? 6.50 for a croissant sandwich with eggs, ham and cheese with no sides? I expect top-notch food truck-game gourmet shit for those prices. Not to mention the 3 dollar cup of coffee in the smallest cup imaginable. Service ok. Only checked back once to refill coffee. I will not be coming back.

This is one of my go-to places to sit and work, while sipping a mocha frappé. They are not pushy and are cool with you just ordering a drink and chillin for a while. The only thing is, it can get a little warm in there during the summer. They have some fans but need more.

Love the California Benedict, with the spinach and egg. I substitute the potatoes for fruit. I get this every time we go and am just as happy as the first time. It’s so good that I look forward to going and get up early on my weekend to join the party. I’ve never had anything out of their bakery, but it looks good and they also have smoothies. They try their best to be accommodating, like with me and my fruit, and if they aren’t you have the wrong waitress. We got the wrong one once. She said we are out of fruit. We the other one heard her and came right over to clear things up. The prices have gone up and that is kind of sad, but we still keep coming. Our party has gone through most of the menu and it’s always been good. They aren’t fancy. No trendy spices, nothing spicy. Just like home food. Parking is good. You can always find street parking. Make sure you check the meter so you don’t get a ticket. In December they give all weekends free, but most of the time it’s just Sunday.

Discovered The Coffee Mill on a recent trip back home to the Bay. Mom, her friend and I were out bridal dress shopping across the street and were really hungry after looking at and trying on tons of dresses for my wedding day. We decided to find a restaurant within walking distance of our location and after a brief stroll– my Mom’s friend recommended The Coffee Mill. Overall, I thought the food was decent and service was good. I wasn’t overwhelmed but I wasn’t underwhelmed either. I think there were plenty of selections on the menu to choose from(not just breakfast), TONS of seating for customers(including outlets if you need to charge your phone or plug up your laptop) and a good deal for the price and amount of food you get. Mom was treating so we all ordered from the breakfast menu. I got a special that included 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausages, eggs and potatoes. The eggs were just regular scrambled eggs(nothing fancy), the potatoes were decent enough and who doesn’t love pork? *oink oink* There were free refills on the coffee which was good and strong and again the service itself was good. The manager came to check on us enough and kept the refills flowing. Would I eat here again? Why not– for the price… you can’t beat a good basic breakfast. I think I’ll try the lunch next time though. Check it out!

We are from Fresno and came here with my niece for breakfast. The owner was welcoming from the time we walked. The food was great, coffee awesome, and fab service.

We came in – all eight of us – from a wedding that was happening soon. Immediately we were seated and served. Also, the best chai that I have ever tasted in my life. I would definitely, definitely recommend this place!

Coffee Mill breakfast place is really good. Food is delicious and services are fast. Im constantly asked for coffee refills :) never a moment without asking it twice. There are outside seating but it was too hot and sunny for brunch. The umbrellas didn’t help. The interior seating was cool specially with fans running full speed. My order was cornbeef hash with home potatoes and sunny side eggs with wheat toast. Always perfect. Rate 4 Star

This is not the place to go if you want a fancy-shmancy brunch — — this is the where you go when you want simple, uncomplicated diner style food. We come here when we’re sick of eating super-cool-delicious-foodie restaurants everywhere in Oakland. We come here when we want a taste of homestyle, no fluff cooking. If you come here with those expectations you’ll love it & the nice people who work here.

This Coffee Mill coffee shop is usually where we go if we visit my BF’s mom who lives right nearby. She’s not into driving too far, so this is just a few blocks away. It’s been here for some years, so I guess they must be doing something right. It’s a nice local run and owned shop. I think it’s Asian run and they sure do a good job. I think many of the baked items they do themselves here. Seems Asians are pretty good at whatever they are cooking. This place serves normal American breakfast. Waffles, pancakes, eggs and hash browns. We come for a later breakfast. The only one bad thing about the Coffee Mill is the lack of parking. If you are really lucky you can get something on Grand Ave. We walked, which was a better idea. Looking over the menu, we first order coffee … and tea for mom. I’m pretty easy when it comes to breakfast choices. I usually just get the normal egg breakfast served with hash browns and toast. My BF gets the Chorizo Scramble served with hash browns as well. Mom doesn’t eat so much these days, so she just gets the blueberry waffle. The prices are super reasonable. I think my egg breakfast was like 6 bucks or so. The coffee is pretty good here, I don’t know what brand but it was a good one. So, here’s my most fave thing about the Coffee Mill, it’s the hash browns! You know how some places just sort of brown them or some places scramble them all up so the crispies are sort of all tumbled in with the non crispies? The Coffee Mill does them to a golden brown on both sides perfectly formed, not all turned and mixed. Just like a potato patty made of shredded potatoes! OMG! those are soooo goood! My eggs are scrambled. I usually get scrambled, just cause I think you get more than the 2 eggs when you get scrambled in most places, since the eggs are pre scrambled. Mine are done perfect, nice med soft, I hate hard scrambled eggs … like eating cereal! My rye toast is buttered nicely. My BF’s Chorizo scramble is huge, along with a big helping of hash browns. I like they sure don’t mess around with small hash brown servings here! BF’s mom’s waffle is pretty standard … that’s what she wanted. I come back here just for the hash browns … some of the best I’ve had … bet they would be better fried with bacon fat! That’s something you can only do at home I think. The breakfasts are great here and the atmosphere is nice and quiet … I’ve never seen screamin’ out of control children here. Check it out!

Yah! New favorite breakfast place: strong coffee, hearty omelet, fresh croissant all at a reasonable price with cheerful and on-the-case service. For a breakfast/lunch place this is perfect.

I can’t believe I never actually wrote a review after all these years. I am a breakfast girl and this is among the best in the area. 1. The staff tries to remember regilulars and their preferences. 2. They manage large parties really well. 3. They don’t ignore patio diners. 4. Your pooch can be comfy here if you are a patio diner 5. They allow substitutions. In fact, they tolerate those similar to Sally in the movie«When Harry Met Sally». 6. If you do feel neglected they respond quickly. Please note, Sunday mornings are very busy as is to be expected. 7. Last but not least — tasty!

The breakfast I have been looking for. Ordered the crab cake Benedict with country potatoes and French toast with a side of sausage. The French toast is EXACTLY how I would like to enjoy such dish. Thick, very well made and flavorful! I didn’t need too much syrup or butter, as the toast tasted great as is. The Benedict is complete heaven. Very well prepared and the potatoes were cooked/flavored without flaws.

The Coffee Mill is my favorite one stop shop in Oakland. It’s nothing fancy, it’s just a low maintenance, yummy, nice, local place that I love! Their servers, esp Loretta, are incredibly sweet, fast, and accurate. The food is the bomb & I love sitting outside! Breakfast-Blueberry Pancakes are on point! Breakfast-Healthy Wrap(I get without potato or onion — add spinach and avocado) Lunch-BLAT Coffee: morning hazelnut & afternoon iced coffee

Meh! Not terrible, but definitely not somewhere that I would want to go again. I had been wanting to try this place because it’s really close to where I live. Unfortunately, I was unimpressed. The tables were dirty, the service was slow and the food wasn’t good. I ordered a veggie omelette with cheese and it looked like they literally place a slice of Kraft cheese on top of the omelette. Aesthetically, the food and the restaurant were just not appealing.
