History

Established in 1978.

The Benz Shop, opened its doors in 1978 on College Avenue in Berkeley.

In 1986, we moved to our current location in the heart of downtown Oakland Auto Row. Our building is a beautiful, historic brick building with 75 foot timber wooden beams. We have a comfortable waiting area and are happy to accommodate you while your car is fixed.

We are walking distance from BART and Whole Foods.

Our technicians are top notch and are well trained in diagnostics, repair and servicing. We promise to return your car in better, cleaner condition than when you brought it to us. We wash every car after it is repaired so you and your car can get back on the road in top notch form!

As early as age 3, John was taking things apart and putting them together, just to see how they worked. He rebuilt his first Volkswagen engine at age 13. This passion and skill carried on into adulthood and despite a degree from UC Davis in Food Science and a high level position in the food industry, he walked away and opened his own shop– The Benz Shop. The shop evolved to become The Best Shop and he has been providing the Bay Area with «Quality Performance» auto repair service ever since.
