Tatuyo Tapa’s website is in «maintenance mode» phone rings constantly, like on hold menu clicking gets«cannot display webpage» like no longer… groupon and Unilocal have deals advance payments fueling deconstrution lights are on hinting at reconstruction all from selling a ½ priced meal. front’s been hibernating a month in a cocoon wonder what will some out soon? the longer the wait, chances are tapas will be hearing taps.

Huh? Bought a groupon deal, went In today, and it’s closed and covered! The phone still works and Unilocal is selling deals right now… Is it being remodeled? Why doesn’t the phone say so?

This place was… seriously weird. The bf and I went for dinner on a Friday night. This was our experience: DECOR: Odd. The place is huge and very echo-y and feels more like a big cafeteria than a cozy tapas restaurant. There’s a bit of color on the back wall behind the tables but it’s mostly whiteness and boring looking tables. They have an open kitchen so you can watch the ONE cook making food. It was really loud, even though it wasn’t that crowded. The bar is small and way in the back so I didn’t even notice it when I walked in. SERVICE: SLOW. Slow, slow, slow. We thought this place was brand new given the Living Social and Google deals and the fact that the waiter seemed almost like he was trying to impress his boss or something. Although he was super nice and friendly, he seemed to awkwardly try and oversell and over-explain the menu even though we already made up our minds what to get. At one point, I was wondering where he went because we hadn’t seen him, so I looked around and saw that he was actually sitting at the table across from us drinking a glass of wine. Then he got up and went back to waiting tables. It was honestly too strange for words(and probably won’t impress the boss). He also admitted that he forgot what we ordered and didn’t charge us for several of the dishes. When we finally got the bill, it was $ 11. Best part of the meal. FOOD: Average at best. We got the fish tacos, garlic shrimp, mussels, plantayos and areypas. For the most part, everything felt very heavy and greasy. The mussels were good if you like spicy food and the fish tacos were pretty good too. I am actually being generous by saying they were both pretty good. The shrimp was boring and the areypas tasted like pancakes without syrup. They need a sauce or something. The only thing that actually came out hot were the mussels. The sangria was a HUGE disappointment because it tasted like fruit punch. I am not sure if it had alcohol in it in retrospect. They have all of 2 desserts. After our waiter worked hard to push us on the plantayos dish, we just ordered it even though we knew it would be another 30 minutes before we got it and really didn’t even want it since we just ate plantayos! And sure enough, it was disappointing too. They tasted a lot like the ones we ate for dinner but with ice cream on top. The ice cream was good so I just ate that. As soon as they started to cool off, they seized up like burnt carmel and were so sticky they got stuck in our teeth. Oh, the other thing that I found really annoying/weird was that all the«tapas» are served on enormous plates that didn’t even fit on the table. The waiter had to rearrange all of our glasses and silverware to fit them but then they hung off the side and we barely had room for our drinks. Shouldn’t the servers/management notice this inefficiency and change it? The sub-par food and SLOW service means I will never be back. I felt more forgiving when I thought they had just opened but it’s clear from seeing the other reviews that they’ve been around at least a year. The restaurant concept is good but the execution is not. There are just too many restaurants in Oakland to give this place a second chance.

My fav lunch spot. I have tried thirteen of the menu items and loved every single one. Would’ve tried everything but I don’t eat beef or pork… my only limitation. The spinach salad GIVESMELIFE! Lol… I eat here almost daily for lunch.

This is a great restaurant and I have been there 3 times in the last 6 weeks. The Tapas are wonderful! My favorites are shrimp, platanos and I LOVE the fish tacos! The margaritas are amazing! Restaurant is nicely decorated, clean and staff is very friendly! J

The food was excellent. The meat was marinated very well. However, the service was very slow(and there were only about 4 tables full) and there was a mildew smell when I walked in. 3 stars from me.

A friend and I decided to try something new, boyeee why did we do that? We purchased a $ 30 for $ 50 worth of food Unilocal deal. I made reservations for 7 pm… when we arrived the place was pretty big and SUPER empty… One waitress 2 tables to serve… the waitress takes our order, small plates, in expensive we ordered half the menu… cilantro rice, mashed potatoes, garlic shrimp, chicken skewers with rice and black beans, shrimp taco, pork taco, mussels and there version of hot wings… EVERYTHING was nasty… wait I take that back… the garlic shrimp were Delicious but the toast that came with it was… wait for it… BURNT!!!who does that? Thought that was it… Nope, there is more… the chicken wings were cold like they came out of the refrigerator… yeah umhum… she took them back… the rice was bland I did not taste a spec of cilantro. the black beans were not cooked done… I could go on but if you don’t get the point by now you do you boo boo!

This place has excellent tapas! Everything we had was great. My favorite was, of course the dessert as I have a sweet tooth. The bananas flambé was everything is should be and more. Slight caramelized soft bananas in rum sauce and the ice was the perfect compliment… writing this, Im thinking i should go back down there today. The only reason i’m not giving them a 5 star rating in because i had yet to sample the other itms in their name; tequila. I will update after that mission is completed.
