I tried this place on a whim wondering why there were only 3 stars. My wife and I each got some rolls and they were good and reasonably priced. Unfortunately the service is mediocre and the waitress forgot the tea we ordered. The staff was by no means rude but they were a bit standoffish. We definitely didn’t feel super welcome here.

ate here, when it was under different ownership, and the food and service were great. it’s TERRIBLE now. there were only 3 customers. two of us and one other person. waitress ignored us; was unhelpful and the food was awful. i ordered two very different chicken dishes and they were dry and tasteless. the miso soup and salad were good. we could not get the waitress to take our orders/answer questions, etc. she was on a personal call. other waitresses joined her and they talked to one another and ignored us. i didn’t eat the chicken dishes and they refunded my money. will not return.

Never again. I’ve come here several times over the past few years and have had only what I’d say the minimum of customer service. Today, there was none at all. I sat at the bar and the sushi chef never acknowledge me and never asked if I’d like anything. Everything on the boats had been there for hours. The avocado in the California roll was brown. I had one plate and walked out. Yes, I put a $ 5 on the bar.

We sit at the bar where there is rotating sushi at different prices based on the color of their plates. Note that the variety is very limited, but you can always order what you want from the menu. One thing about rotating sushi is that you can easily go over budget without notice… Overall the food is ok but not special in any way.

This place is fun! It’s kid friendly and the staff are great. It’s best come for sushi boats table at peak times when it’s busy and things are turning over quickly. Or just order something off the menu if things are slow. I don’t understand why this place is so low rated… I always enjoy my meal, it’s not amazing but it’s tasty.

Loved the sushi boat and that the sushi chefs seemed to be very aware of sanitation. The service was responsive and helpful. Will be going back.

This place deserves better than three stars. Both the salmon and tuna rolls I plucked off of the sushi boats were delicious, and the spinach sesame salad and chicken Kara-age off the menu were great. Pleasant atmosphere and nice waitresses.

Not an enjoyable experience. Japanese food is usually a little pricier but if it is going to be this pricey it should also be much better quality. The waitress was also incredibly rude and basically forgot about us. The tables around us were all seated after us, but had their orders taken and received their food before we did. After inquiring about our food, the hostess was rude and didn’t acknowledge that it had been over 40 minutes since we ordered and there was no sign of our food. I literally never feel strongly enough to think to write a Unilocal review. But spending 25 minutes wondering why our order wasn’t being taken or attempts to get her attention were being ignored, another 40 minutes wondering where our food was, and paying double what I usually would for that quality of food, I needed to vent how ridiculous that experience was. There are plenty of other restaurants and even Japanese places within easy walking distances on College. Go to those.

I haven’t been here for years and I remember this place use to be good. We came here on a Saturday night. This place was almost empty. I thought we were lucky to have a place where it was quiet and we’ll get our food pretty quick. The ginger chicken took over 30 minutes to come out. The sushi was plain. This place has gone downhill. For the price you pay I expected more. It’s so unfortunate.

I don’t understand why this place has only the stars! I guess I have to read the other reviews! I come here sort of often and haven’t had any real problems. The customer service is decent, and I enjoy watching the people in the middle making the sushi; The boats is a fun idea and I really like picking exactly what I want. The color coded plates is a really clever idea! It’s also fairly inexpensive for a few people! It’s also nice, being able to be close to the people making it, and so if there is something in particular you want on the boats, you can just ask! You can also order things separately. And if the boats aren’t your thing(even though they’re definitely mine…) They do have sit-down tables! And my twelve year old younger brother enjoys taking lollipops as we walk out! I would recommend this place to everyone! Especially kids!

I really like this place! I live in the area and I frequent this place pretty regularly and have never had an issues. The staff is always really friendly and the food is good. Not the most amazing sushi but tasty and fresh, and for the price who can complain?! Also their happy hour(8 – 9:30, I believe) is very nice. Great atmosphere to go on a casual date, out with family, or a group of friends. I would definitely recommend this place :)

Ya… the service was friendly, but everything else was plain. I ordered 3 items off the boat, which all were tasteless. I then added more wasabi, but it wasn’t spicy. So I took a gamble and tried wasabi straight– no spice! It’s like they watered down the wasabi… And it was over $ 30! Don’t was your time or $$$

I enjoy Sushi boat/Kaiten style restaurants so when we were in oakland, i wanted to try this one based on the reviews. We went for lunch on Sunday and it was right in the mdidle of the rush and during Rockridge festival but they were pretty empty. this also meant the boats were empty which was dissappointing. i had to order a few things and pricing they are higher. I frequent Sakana Bune in SF and not only are they cheaper but the boats are full. The size and quantity are the same too.

Sushi is below average and overpriced unfortunately. I generally shy away from these types of boat places as sushi should be consumed immediately after the chef prepares it. I had two 4 piece rolls, the seaweed salad, a freshly prepared hand roll, and two pieces of unagi nigiri. With an iced tea(came sweet, wasn’t asked).the total was $ 35 including tip. Service was indifferent. There are a couple of other spots on college to the North and south that you would be better off selecting.

I love this place for their sushi boat bar seating. It is a nice treat to go in for the basic rolls and some miso soup when you are on a time schedule or just don’t feel like thinking too much about menu items. If you go at a relatively close time to mealtime then things are fresh and the service is pretty good here. They are attentive with hot tea and with the check. I would definitely recommend this place to others who live and/or work in the area.

Please trust me when I say I had the worst meal of my life at Takara this weekend. Working with the mediocre waitstaff, I ordered chicken teriyaki and a few appetizers. We were able to eat the edamame and white rice and nothing else. The chicken was dried out and flavorless and the breaded tofu was bland as well. My daughter who love chicken and Japanese food spit out the chicken and said«I do not want it. It taste weird… kinda yucky.» I would have sent back but we did not see a waitress again until it was time to go and I had to go looking for them. With so many great options in the neighborhood like Jules Thin Crust, Toast or Rockridge Café. I would avoid this place. Consider yourself WARNED!!!

This place is pretty good. Dined in once with a friend. She had a roll and I had the nigri combo selection. Fish was decently fresh. Only thing I didn’t like was how pricey it was. The miso and salad were good.

I came back for dinner with my mom. There were only 5 tables and the rest of the seating was at the sushi bar. My mom ordered the Yaki Udon. It did not come with soup or salad. It was a dry udon(no broth). The portion was very large and she took home more than half of the noodles. I ordered the BBQ Spare Ribs. They were boneless slices of marinated and charbroiled beef on a bed of raw cabbage. Some of the best I’ve tasted in a long time. I will be back for lunch and order the BBQ Spare Ribs which is $ 5 less for lunch.

Visiting for Thanksgiving weekend and sick of turkey so we ventured out for Sushi. Our family has been here before and service is usually terriffic but today they were greatly understaffed with only one sushi chef and a full bar of patrons. In a business district on Black Friday what were they thinking — Everyone would be eating leftovers? The sushi boats were virtually empty, with a few california rolls, one cream puff order and two orders of salmon sushi going around and around for at least 45 minutes. We sat for at least 20 minutes before someone acknowledged that we wanted to order something other than the two lonley pieces of sushi going around and around. We ate a few items from the lonely boats which equated to $ 79. Even though we ordered a buch of other food to feed the 5 of us we waited and watied and waited and still no sushi. We cancelled the order and decided to go grab a pizza next door and some ice cream across the street. Won’t be back here again.
