Specialties
SemioticPixels is a small website development studio with a focus on mobile first, responsive websites built on top of best-of-breed free open source content management systems and frameworks.
Headquartered in Oakland, California, we partner with agencies, freelancers, designers and companies using Ruby on Rails, Django, WordPress, and Plone. (We work with other softwares too, but those are our favorites.) Available to work on your schedule, we’re comfortable joining you in your office or working remotely.
History
Established in 2000.
SemioticPixels specializes in building websites that are SEO friendly and use the latest W3C standards guidelines.
HTML5 is our preferred frontend markup, but XHTML strict or transitional is fine too. CMS of choice are WordPress for smaller websites and Plone for large websites with many authors. For a more customized environment, we recommend using a framework such as Ruby on Rails or Django.
We have worked with a number of other open source content management systems (e.g. Joomla!, Drupal, MODx) as well as web applications which support overall business process such as Customer Relationship Management (CRM), project management, and knowledge management.
In addition to website development and maintenance, we offer service packages that include managing web application and server updates, website performance optimization, web server monitoring, configuration management and support in developing business processes for managing mission critical websites.
Meet the Business Owner
chris H.
Business Owner
Chris founded SemioticPixels in 2000 and immediately jumped onto the Web Standards bandwagon because it made sense to her that web standards would eventually birth a web that is flexible, accessible, and useable. Those standards continue to be the guiding principles in the work she does today through SemioticPixels.
