Hotel San Pablo was built in 1907 on the original site of oaktown’s chinatown. it was then called the Hotel Arcade. I didn’t have contact with the hotel till the 1960’s-1970’s. my parents ran the restaurant next door. most of the elderly and/or semi-tired people living here were our regular customers. heartell the san pablo were closed around the time of the loma pietra earthquake. subsequently ebaldc stepped in and took over the facility, rehabilitated it and made it living apartments for people 55+(hey, that’s me!).
