We’ve partnered up with the finest manufacturers to provide customized solutions to today’s home furnishing challenges. Need to have a coffee table that’s only 36″ long? It’s no problem. We specialize in small space solutions.

History

Established in 1970.

We’ve been helping folks get their homes together for over 40 years.

Our family business originally began by restoring and selling antique furniture. As we evolved, we took what we had learned, and began manufacturing our own line of mission style furniture right here in Oakland.

Today much of our manufacturing is done by a group of Amish craftsmen who hand make each piece, then use the very best finish to ensure that it will last generations. They particularly enjoy the challenges and diversity that our custom work brings.

Additionally, we now have 7 SOFA lines including LEE Industries and American Leather. We also carry several styles of SLEEPERS and CHAIRS. We have sofas in prices ranging from the mid-​$ 900s up to $ 15,000.

With hundreds of sofa frames and thousands of fabrics, your sure to find something that will fit your style, budget, and size requirements. All our sofa are manufactured in the US, with many made right here in California!

I’m a lifer. I’ve been part of this business, since I was nine, I’m pushing 50 now and I still love it.

Everyday someone brings in their design problem. I love seeing how people live. I look at their pictures of what they have now, and room dimensions. I enjoy hearing what they want out of the space.

Designing a room is like cooking a meal. All the elements need to come together is a way that is not just visually appealing, but also gives you and your guests a comforting pleasant experience.

These days most rooms are used for many different things. Life has sure gotten more complicated. A great room design must take into account literally hundreds of details without breaking the bank.

Our clients view their purchases as investment that will pay off over the next 10 to 20 years — so the decisions have to be right. I’m proud of the trust our clients have to allow us to be part of that decision for over 40 years.

We have worked with several of the staff at this lovely store, and have been completely pleased with the knowledge of the designers and the customer service. On separate occasions, designers Hatty and Leanne made great recommendations on how to incorporate various pieces and colors into both my partner’s and my style preferences, and the final results have combined our tastes perfectly.
Most importantly, store owner John demonstrated superior commitment to customer satisfaction when a custom-​ordered piece did not turn out as we expected. He and Leanne worked with an upholsterer to get the piece redone to our liking and in short time. We are quite pleased with the effort and the end result turned out beautifully.
We also really enjoyed chatting with John and hearing his stories about how his family began the business decades ago, and how the Rockridge neighborhood has evolved over time. It is a pleasure to support quality, relationship-​focused local businesses such as Rockridge Furniture & Design.

We are in the process of rearranging our living space to accommodate our growing family needs. My husband stopped in to get an idea of RF offerings. He spoke with a woman who said she is a designer. Although we have already hired someone, my husband further explained our project. We are actively seeking furnishing resources. After explaining our objective of trying to make our formal living room more «family» friendly and considering custom cabinets to house a TV… The RF «designer» said, «so it sounds like putting in a lawn to play on is out of the question» My husband said at first he didn’t follow the insult. She repeated herself. At that point my husband realized the insinuation that she was making. That instead of redoing our inside arrangement for kids, we should focus outside. Unbelievable! Why she would assume our outdoor plans since she is in a furniture store is beyond me. For the record, we HAVE a big yard and we are also landscaping and building it out concurrently. Furniture is fungible, customer service is not.

I was forever rearranging furniture never finding a solution for our oddly sized living room/​dining room space. I visited RF&D to discuss the possibility of a new sofa. After showing Leanne a couple of photos of our home she suggested she visit the space. I am so glad we took her up on this suggestion.
For a very reasonable price Leann visited our home and a short time after her visit she sent us three different designs to choose from. She found a solution that we never would have come up with and it was perfect. She understood our issues with children, pets, a budget and included all of these factor in her suggestions. She made suggestions for furniture based on our overall needs.
Now, months later we are able to sit back and appreciate all of the changes we made based on her suggestions. Small suggestions, things that were easy to change have made a huge difference in allowing us to enjoy our home. Seemingly little things like how to arrange picture frames on a wall or mantle are huge because I admire those changes on a daily basis. The collection of big and small changes we made based on her advice have made the biggest difference. Our dining room table didn’t accommodate the right number of people in a comfortable way, now it does. Both rooms feel bigger and look great.
Leanne is brilliant, nice, fun to work and so smart when it comes to design and I’m sure a lot of other things. She is really great to work with. I am so glad we met her and I am so thankful for her help. I highly recommend working with Leann.

We worked with designer Leanne Sebastian earlier this year on a living room refresh. We came to Rockridge Furniture & Design because the store is local to us and always seems to showcase attractive, well-​made furniture in the window.
Our own furniture was a hodge podge of colors and styles that didn’t fit well into our small space; our living room was cluttered and disorganized; and we were having a hard time making the space feel warm and inviting. Enter Leanne, who took the time to come to our house, asked us lots of questions, and got to know us and our tastes. She pulled the information together based on her visit with us and made recommendations that took the space in a whole new direction. She honed in on that things we loved in our house and extrapolated a style and color scheme we love. The result is a totally refreshed living room that looks bigger and brighter, allows us to feel comfortable by ourselves and also entertain others. It feels like us – but with more polish.
Leanne took our dog, our child and our lifestyles in account. She made recommendations that were in line with our tastes, helped us get organized and highlighted the things we like most about our house. Leanne’s strength is assessing the underlying problems that are keeping you from using your space to its best advantage. In other words, she can look at your mess and see the solution. For example, Leanne’s entryway furniture suggestion has allowed us to keep our entry area neat and organized, which is no small feat.
By the time Leanne came to help us hang pictures, I trusted her enough to tell her to do whatever she wanted.
We recommend Leanne wholeheartedly. Oh, and the furniture is solid and well made, just as it appears in the window :)

Sales person was polite, helpful, friendly, and we fully paid for a sofa that was to be manufactured and then delivered approximately 8 weeks later.
At 10 weeks, I hadn’t heard anything, so I called and left a message with the sales person. No response after a day, so I called and asked to speak with a manager, whom I reached in the morning, and who told me that she would call me back later with details about our order. Towards the end of the day, no call back. So, I called again, and spoke with someone in customer service, who said that they would track it down and call me back. A bit later they called back and told me that there had been an issue with getting the material for the sofa, and that caused a delay, and «we probably should have told you that», and that our sales person was out on maternity leave.
Several weeks later the sofa showed up, and was as ordered, and the delivery guys were polite and competent.
So, my dissatisfaction is based upon:
1) Not being told that there was a delay in the manufacturing process.
2) Lack of follow-​up from our salesperson (no customer hand-​off during maternity leave and no phone message announcement update about being out).
3) The manager not getting back to me on the day I called.
All three of these things point at a lack of attention to keeping the customer informed.

We got stellar customer service at Rockridge Furniture. We ordered a sofa bed, a substantial purchase, in the midst of a move that included a remodel, so decisions had to be made about a space that was a moving target. Leann was able to provide us design help that took the sting out of all the uncertainties, and then she kindly rolled with our evolving completion date to make the delivery date work with our project. We now have our sofa-​bed, professionally delivered and expertly set up – Size, shape, color, and materials work perfectly in our new place and we couldn’t be happier. Thanks, Leann, for your combination of design expertise and neighborly service. Highly recommended.

I received wonderful service from store when manufacturer wasn’t going to be able to deliver by February 14, the date of a party I was hosting. The delay was caused by manufacturer’s lack of my leather choice, not the store. Much to my surprise, the store offered to deliver their display model free of charge prior to the party and I could keep it until my original order arrived. They didn’t even ask me about pets that might claw it! I thought that was amazingly considerate. The couch is super comfortable and well made. I had shopped Restoration Hardware and Crate and Barrel, but I consider this couch a much better value and design.

I have coveted a mission style coffee table for years and finally went for it because life is short and all that. I knew it would take at least 6 weeks to get it and when I didn’t hear anything at that time I called on Saturday. Really wanted it for the holidays. The man answering the phone identified himself as the owner and cheerfully told me that the table had come in Thursday and when would I like to pick it up. I reminded him that I had paid for it to be delivered. So we arranged for a Monday 2 p.m. or so delivery because that was the only day I would be home all week. When it got to be 3:30 I called and was told the delivery was scheduled for Tuesday. After I became one of those pissed off customers they managed to get my beautiful table to me in the next hour. Love the table, which at that price I better. The service, didn’t love that so much.

This is the best furniture store in the East Bay, hands down. When we moved to our little craftsman home in Rockridge, we needed to fill it with the distinctive and style– specific pieces that would complement and accentuate the home. This was the perfect shop for our needs. We bought everything here: a couch, an entertainment piece, an end table, a coffee table, a stained glass chandelier, a glider chair, a king size bed, two night stands, a high boy dresser, and … Hmmm… I think that’s it! Anyhow, we looked at many stores and these guys always had exactly what we envisioned and Leann’s sense of customer service is impeccable (hi Leann!). So anyhow, We kept coming back and back again until the house was filled up and became a home. So when the glider chair started clicking and making irritating noises, we contacted Leann and she ordered new ball bearings and had them installed on the chair right away. That fixed the issue for a year, and then the chair started making the same noises again, and Leann is on it again, this time angling for a new chair frame from the Manufacturer. Really amazing customer service, they will stick by you through thick and thin. I love these guys!
Also, please note that they have expanded their range of styles, now showcasing modern, mid-​century modern, bohemian and more traditional pieces than they previously had, while still carrying lots of craftsman pieces too. Come in here for great furniture and accents to complete your home’s «wow» factor!!!

We just purchased a sofa from Rockridge Furniture. I have a bad back and needed a sofa that was both firm and not too deep. My husband and I sat on a lot of sofas with no success and then wandered into Rockridge Furniture where we found exactly what we needed because of Danusia’s expert assistance. Not only did she direct us to towards the perfect sofa, she also assisted us in picking the right fabric so that the couch would be a lovely addition to our room. Our new sofa was delivered about two weeks ago and we couldn’t be more pleased! Plus, and just as importantly, I can comfortably sit on it and get up from it without any discomfort.

My boyfriend and I were casually walking by when we decided to take a look at furniture for my mom. Leann immediately asked if we needed help. I opened up about our predicament, and she was so incredibly thoughtful and considerate. She immediately thought outside the box. Then she showed us all of our options. I agree with the other reviewer: she has an incredible sense of design. With just a simple description she had a complete sense of furniture and fabric options. She has gone above and beyond, and I am so grateful that we decided to pop in that day.

I visited Rockridge Furniture & Design during their «Progressive Clearance Sale». This is where over a period of two weeks, back room clearance prices are listed to go from 30 to 70% off. The day before the pieces I was interested in were supposed to go on sale for 70% off, I returned to see if they were still on the sales floor. Sure enough, they were.
When I asked about them I was told that all of the pieces I was interested in were going to be removed from the sale before they could be marked down to 70% off. When I was in the store the previous week and talked to a sales clerk for a good 15 minutes about the pieces I was interested in, she never once said that they would be removed from the sale before they reached 70% off.
If the clearance prices were so good, why were all the pieces still there at a 50% markdown a week later? Talk about false advertising and a waste of time. This store is like a smarmy used car lot.

Over the past year we had occasion to refurnish much of our brownshingle home. Because we had excellent experiences with the store decades ago we returned to Rockridge Furniture & Design for a large array of bedroom, dining room, parlor, and office furniture. Without wishing to denigrate the pleasantness and competence of RF&D’s other staff members, we feel fortunate to have had Leann to take care of us. Not only does she know her merchandise and what’s available on order but she also displayed remarkable sensitivity for our aesthetics and needs, indefatigably seeking out the perfect piece for its place and purpose.
Even without having seen our home Leann understood our style immediately. Her cheerful enthusiasm for our project, coupled with her sound knowledge of available pieces, helped us greatly in our decisions and made the entire undertaking a delightful experience. Not only are we thoroughly pleased with our purchases, but Leann went well beyond her role as a furniture seller: her talent as an outstanding interior decorator helped us enormously. She has a remarkable sense of space and gave us countless valuable suggestions. At her advice I had some furniture shifted around in my office/​parlor, and the result is spectacular!
All deliveries were carried out in a timely and professional manner. We are thoroughly satisfied with the services of Rockridge Furniture and Design and highly recommend it.

I had great service at Rockridge Home design. I had the living room redesigned by Leonore, the interior designer at the shop. She is excellent in picking colors, measuring the room, and helping me choose a style that would work with the home and the space. I am so happy with my new living room.

There should be a negative star rating… it’s painful to give them even one!
Reporting back with the outcome of our bookcase fiasco. After charging our credit card for the full payment and then not ordering the boockcase for another 9 weeks, avoiding us and lying about it, we sent an email expressing our disappointment with their unprofessional antics. They replied with a long list of excuses, apologized and promised to deliver the bookcase for free as soon as it arrived. A few more weeks pass and we emailed AGAIN wondering the status. Some days later, the owner called and said that the bookcase did in fact arrive however, because I posted a negative review on Unilocal he was «no longer motivated to please me.» He said if I wanted the bookcase I would have to pick it up. Were they expecting a positive review after using our funds for 4 months, lying about it and giving us a world class run-​around? At this point, we just assumed that whoever was in charge of this three-​ring circus was imcompetent. We emailed once more to ask that they deliver it as promised or to kindly refund our money. Would you believe that rather than deliver the bookcase that we’d waited nearly 5 months for they actually refunded our credit card! An unbelievably bad experience but a stellar example in exactly how NOT to run a business.
So, there it is… ordered a bookcase from Rockridge Furniture in November, paid for it in full, was told it would arrive in 8 weeks. Now…20 weeks later and no bookcase in sight. Your money will be far better spent buying a couple of tickets to Barnum & Bailey rather than deal with these clowns.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!
So I walk into this store looking for furniture for my living room. An older man (not sure if he is part of the staff or the owner) but he’s sitting down at a table possibly doing inventory… As I enter, he looks up at me and looks right back down to finish whatever he’s doing. No greeting, no assistance. Then he gets up from his chair and walks to the back. I guess he assumed that i didn’t want to buy his $ 75 pillows. Then I see two woman sitting down in chairs talking among themselves, they pause and look and me and than proceed to talk. Not sure if they work there or if they were customers. What a «pretentious» vibe! I will never step foot into this store again.

The manager told me that I was «doing something wrong» in the bed, inferring gymnastic sex or something which I can assure you at almost 70 years old, is not the case. Read on–
Three weeks ago we bought a king sized bed frame on close out from Rockridge Furniture. Okay deal, 50% off, which brought it down to what you would normally pay.
But when we got it home and put it together, the center support posts kept breaking off, causing the mattress to cave in the center.
I took one of the broken posts to the store and talked to the man who I was told was the «Owner/​Manager». I explained the problem. Talk about attitude– he was cold as ice. He told me they never had that problem before and that he «didn’t know what I was doing wrong» in the bed, inferring gymnastic sex or something which I can assure you at almost 70 years old, is not the case.
I wanted an exchange and he said he had no other bed frames of that type, that he wouldn’t fix it unless I paid him $ 100. I reminded him the bed was less than three days old. At that point he said he would give me a refund. I kept the bed and after buying some stuff at Home Depot, fixed it myself.
I don’t recommend this store. Some nice things, but be sure and inspect everything carefully and be clear on the return policy. I don’t trust them. They give miserable service.
