Precision Roofers should not come to Monaghan’s Bar in Oakland, get drunk, insult people, then drive around in a Precision Roofing company truck flipping off the women parking their cars at the bar. I would never use this company. Their employees are a liability. Great advertisement from Precision Roofing on what happens when you drink and drive.

Installed a new roof for us a few years back. Price was not the lowest but the service and quality were fantastic. They did a great job and corrected a mistake that was made at considerable cost to them.

I’ve been seldom impressed by home repair contractors in the Bay Area, but precision roofing will be the standard by which I judge any future work on my house. They showed up on time to access what needed repairing, I had a detailed, written, proposal of their repair plan within three days and they were there when they said they would be to do the job. Michael is a consumate professional with decades of experience. He runs a tight crew of roofers and carpenters who did a marvelous job of repairing our roof and then cleaning up afterward.
I don’t know what else to say other than that we’ll go back to them in the future as well as recommended them to friends.

My mom talked about the great service this company delivered for years. She recently passed away and I needed to get a couple things checked on her home’s roof.
One issue was based on a home inspector’s comment about something minor. Michael could have just reassured me on the phone but he took the time to come out and actually look at «his» roof. (That cracked me up a bit.) He even took fresh photos so his letter saying all was well was completely official.
The other issue was something Michael found during the above check: the TV service provider had installed the dish in the wrong spot and put holes in the roof! Thankfully, the TV provider approved a claim based on his estimate and Michael came back to repair that.
I like how seriously Michael takes his business — he has a high level of ownership for the roof, no matter who owns the home. I also like his honesty. He made sure that I knew to tell potential buyers that the guarantee carries over. I’m not surprised my Mom selected such a good roofer. I’m sure she would recommend Precision, too.

I had Michael come out to check a leak in our ceiling in 2012. I was expecting him to say that the whole roof needed replacing. (As the other company had recommended) Long story short, we just needed to replace a couple of tiles and redo a flash around the chimney. Here’s the thing with leaks, it’s hard to find out where the leak is streaming from. It could be leaking in one area of the house and tracking to another location.
During the last heavy rainfall there was another leak. After hours of investigating, tapping, knocking and running up and down the latter, my husband finally gives up and says to call the PR guys. Michael came out and within 10 minutes of his visit, he found the source of the leak which was not from the roof at all. The leak is coming from a threshold that has a crack in it. He says a little caulk will do the trick. He didn’t hand me a bill, he just said, «yep, some caulk will do, call me if you have anymore problems.» You betcha Michael, I’m gonna be calling YOU when my roof needs replacing because I like your honesty and integrity. Precision Roofing is a small family owned business and I have had nothing but good interactions with them and most of all, I feel confident that they’re not out to make a quick buck. If you are in doubt whether they are charging to much, get a second or third quote, you’ll then get a feel for how much you should be getting charged. I felt his estimates were fair, while not the lowest priced, it was fair.

In January of 2014, I called Precision again to check the roof at the office. They checked the gutters and repaired a downspout. Two guys, one hour, and a bill for $ 190. Great work and a fair price… woo-​hoo!
So right after Thanksgiving, I called them out again. I also asked them to check our home, which has no gutters — just 4 holes in the flat roof and 4 downspouts that collect leaves and debris — so my husband wouldn’t have to climb up there.
One morning, without notice, someone rang the bell at home. He was hard to understand, but I finally figured out he was from Precision. He was up on the roof about 20 minutes. Fair enough — that’s how long it took my husband to do it. He left, and I headed for work.
When I arrived at the office, he was on the roof. Those leaf guards were working, so it didn’t take long, and he was gone inside of half an hour.
Ah, but the bills! For the office, TWICE as much — $ 380 — for ONE guy for a HALF hour! And for our downspouts at home? ANOTHER $ 380?
I called to ask why these latest bills were so high. Michael was abrupt and rude. Didn’t I know he was trying to get his crews out? He’d call me back. It’s 2015. He never did. I guess things change — this company sure did. We paid the bills — a $ 760 lesson in who not to call.
About 2 weeks after Precision’s visit, there was a windy night. All the roofing sailed off the peak of my office building’s roof! Thanks Unilocal — we now have a repaired roof and a new go-​to roofer (I’ll post a review soon). Michael, don’t worry about having time to get your crews out — we won’t be bothering you again!
In March, 2013:
We found Precision Roofing in 2012 when we were shopping for tube skylights. The manufacturer-​recommended was expensive and «assembly line» with customer processing. Mike came out to give us an estimate, asked a lot of questions and was focused on our individual needs.
Our contractor scheduled the installation date with Mike. The crew showed up as planned and installed the five solar tubes we wanted. The installation was beautiful and the work areas were clean and tidy. The skylights make a dramatic difference…
But that’s not all. The workmen noticed a problem with two of our downspouts and made some small repairs — as a courtesy! The last roofer we used didn’t want to be bothered with gutter cleaning and downspout issues at all — Mike said he’s happy to schedule checking-​and-​cleaning appointments. Wow!
I took him at his word, and called them out to check and clean the gutters at my business, located in a two-​story residential building. They put in a new leaf-​guard system, replaced a bad gutter section, and charged me less than that other company did just to climb up and look around.
I’ve recommended them to a couple of friends as well. Our neighbor called them in January for repairs and gutter cleaning, and called to thank me. I wish more businesses delivered this kind of quality and customer service!

I have used Precision Roofing for many years and have been completely satisfied with the promptness and professionalism of Michael and his crews.

We just had our roof and gutters completed by Precision Roofing Company and would definitely recommend them. They provided great customer service, a well completed job, and a good price.

After reading some of the reviews, I was a bit reluctant to use Precision, but now I’m glad I did! My house was built in 1926 and has a 3-​story, very step roof with lots of tricky roof-​line merges. Plus there were 3 old layers of roofing that had to be removed. Michaels’s bid was very detailed, and everything that was listed on the bid was done. His crew is professional, went above and beyond what was required, and always left a clean worksite. They removed a very large, heavy abandoned clay vent pipe all the way down to the attic floor instead of leaving it there (which wasn’t in the bid, and was a big job). My neighbors commented on what a great job they did. The bid was not the highest and not the lowest, but looked like the most thorough. And the 15-​year guarantee is good– his son, who works with him, will be eventually taking over the business, and the guaranty can transfer on if the house is sold.

Go here if you want to get ripped off. They gave me a $ 2200 estimate for replacing 11 broken clay tiles on our roof, even though I had extra tiles so there was no material cost. I had another roofing company do it for $ 400.

Hired Precision Roofing to repair our roof. We had one winter with no leaks or issues but when we bought the house the summer before the home inspector suggested we have the roof repaired to address some worn shingles. Precision was the highest bid we received but they were thorough and professional in their estimate so we went with them.
Got the bid in August and had the work done mid September. Roof started leaking where it was «repaired» in March. Called Precision and they sent a guy out same day to take a look. He let us know that the repairs were not done correctly which was a little annoying but hey, it happens. They did what they said was a temporary fix and let us know the owner would be in touch. When we spoke to the owner he let us know that we misunderstood the worker who had come out and that the fix done WAS permanent. We tried to explain that there was no way that we had misunderstood the guy — we were shown pictures from the roof and he did a great job of explaining the issue. In addition he just added some goop around the vents but we had leaks from the vents and the from nails where the shingles had been replaced. Owner was absolutely dismissive and insisted that he knew all about this job and that the fix done was permanent and complete.
We were going have these guys do our full roof replacement in a couple years but after this shadiness there is no way. It is a shame that the owner is so difficult because the guy that came out to look at the issue seemed to really know what he was talking about.

So I just wanted to update on my previous review. Unfortunately the repair work done by Precision did not solve the leaking problem and although they were very responsive to come back out to the house each time it rained and leaked, they were unable to do an appropriate repair. In fact, each time they took the skylights apart, the leaking got worse. It was suggested that the skylights themselves were leaking rather than the roofing /​flashing and they recommended that I purchase new skylights.
Something didn’t feel quite right about that recommendation, so before I spent more money I hired a skylight expert (recommended by Truitt and White) out to have a look. He thought the job looked well done from the outside, but upon removing the shingles he uncovered their errors. He reflashed and reshingled that area of the roof and voila! to date, no more leaking! He also charged less than ¹⁄₃ of what Precision charged me.
Although, they are probably quite good at general roofing and they are very responsive to problems — they did try for three years to get it right… and all their workers were very nice, I would not recommend them for skylight leaking issues.

I bought a 125 year old house. After the purchasing I didn’t have all the funds needed to do all the repairs necessary. I called in Precision Roofing Company and the came up with a five year plan. The short term repairs now and a full new roof in five years. It has been two years since the initial repairs and not a single leak. Great job great service. Ps they even fixed the latch on my gate.

They may be a terrific roofer but they are impossible to get an estimate from. It has taken a month of back and forth calls and the best appointment I can get is 3−½ weeks from now. Meanwhile the roof continues to leak… be sure to call alternatives while reaching out to Precision if you have an immediate need!

We’ve had Mike out twice, once when we first bought our house last year and a couple of weeks ago to do a yearly sweeping of the gutters. In both cases all the work was done promptly and efficiently. But what impressed me most about Mike was his integrity. When we bought the house, the home inspection report had recommended certain repairs to the roof. But when Mike came over, he remembered working on this house just the year before for the previous owners and said that most of the recommended work had already been done and was still under his guarantee, even though ownership of the house had changed. That’s probably a couple of thousand dollars we didn’t have to spend because of his honesty. The only problem we’ve had with Precision Roofing is lack of coordination between whoever’s in the office and the people in the field. We once got a confusing bill which seemed to indicate that some work was still to be done, but it turned out to have already been done. Not a big deal.

We purchased a 100+year old home that needed some serious work. The roof had 6 layers on it, and the cedar shakes on two sides of the house were paper thin.
We got quotes from several roofing companies to replace the roof and re-​side half of the house, including from several A-​rated Angie’s List companies.
Precision came in with a fairly detailed bid, and also a higher-​than-​average price. We met with Michael a few times and were convinced by his professionalism and treatment of his employees that Precision would be the right company for the job.
Turns out we were 100% correct. They did an excellent job, dealing with all kinds of problems along the way without a hitch. They were meticulous in their construction and the finished product looks fantastic. In retrospect, given the quality of their work, the slightly higher price was a total bargain. We were glad to pay it. We’ve had multiple people comment on the quality of the craftsmanship. Their warranty is also top-​notch, and considerably longer than that of their competitors.
We intend to use them again if we ever have any additional roofing needs. Can’t recommend them highly enough.
If I had to nitpick, one issue was timing — they had to move the start date a few times to account for unexpected delays at another project they were working on.

We had an excellent experience with Precision Roofing. They re-​roofed our home with tar & gravel, replaced the drainpipes, added insulation — and best of all, fixed the problems with the roofing job completed by our previous homeowner. When we got our quote, Michael went to the trouble of pointing out these previous issues and that cemented my trust in his knowledge (other roofers didn’t mention them).
Would highly recommend them.

I’m a bit mixed on how to review Precision Roofing. I liked Michael when I met him and I really felt (still do feel) like he knew what he was doing. He was recommended by our home owners association and Unilocal reviewers confirmed him. He proposed an action plan for doing some roofing and gutter work and even offered to do some stucco patching for me that had been botched by a previous owner.
The day the work was to be performed the workers were late, and I had to leave before they arrived. The work on the roof looks great and I’m very pleased with it, but the work on the downspouts was not done with attention to detail. Not only did they not follow through on patching up the stucco that had been botched by the previous owner, they didn’t patch holes in the stucco that were created by replacing some of the old straps that secured the old downspout to the side of the house. I had to go around myself afterward to do that (holes left in stucco really do spell disaster for those of you who aren’t familiar!).
So, I’m disappointed. Obviously he’s not a stucco guy, he’s a roofing guy, and the roofing work was good, but he offered to do the stucco work, I didn’t ask him to. When I called him that morning to let him know I needed to leave and his workers still weren’t there, he indicated that he wouldn’t be with them and I wonder if he ever came to the job site the day the work was performed to inspect the finished product? I have a feeling he did not, because I don’t think he would have left it the way it was.
Finally, there was no followup from him or anyone else at the company to see if I was happy with the work performed. I received a one page invoice which I paid promptly and that was it. I guess maybe they assume you’ll call and complain if you’re not happy. I’m not unhappy… just disappointed that the entire job wasn’t done up to the standard that Michael represented.
So three stars? I would have given four if they hadn’t left the holes in the stucco from the old downspout straps, and five if in addition to that there had been a courtesy call to make sure I was satisfied…

The leak in our roof in Berkeley seemed to be impossible to fix. Over a period of 5 years we hired 5 roofers and others who took a stab at fixing it and failed. This included a roofer who charged over $ 7500 to replace the whole section of the roof and the next time it rained — it was still dripping. Michael had a hard time convincing us that this time it would be repaired for real — he guaranteed it. His crew tested the roof carefully and throughly (unlike others) and figured out where the leak was originating. They repaired it for less than they quoted and the leak is gone! We’re so glad a friend suggested Precision Roofing.

Precision Roofing just fixed part of our roof. Whole experience was great! Personal, knowledgeable, local, experienced, fair.
Workers tidied up totally, were very professional. Owner Michael Green is just a pleasure to do business with — he is friendly, likes people, is lovely to talk to, really cares about his company, his workers, and your roof, or so it seemed to me.
And he personally came over and climbed up on our roof to figure out what was going on!
We had thought we needed a whole new roof. Which we were putting off getting. But as the rains continued, urgently, there was a sound like a leak, like water running in the wall, every time it rained. Very disturbing.
First place I called to «fix a possible hole» never even called us back; and that place is very well known and I have listened to their ads for years. I had even memorized their phone number.
But then, _​Thanks_​_​to Unilocal!I called Precision Roofing and am very glad I did. Call back was fast, visit was fast, assessment was thorough, follow up was friendly and efficient. They came out the first dry day and were all done that same day.
No more disturbing sounds in the wall when it rains! Now I can enjoy the rain again!
