Out of the Closet

Good selection, but not great… particularly for plus size people. That being said, I love the goal/​mission of the place and always want to support it :-)

Found some pretty legit H&M, Nike, and other items every time I’ve been here, and all of them looking new as well. Always plenty of parking. Minus one star only because there’s always one of two rude workers (one seemed to be a manager) that never greet me and look like they hate their lives. However, theres a lady with glasses that always has an awesome attitude!

My boyfriend and I live around the corner from this place but hadn’t gone in until today – it’s great! You have to hunt a bit but there are some great finds, the staff is friendly and things are well priced. We got 3 men’s button ups plus two dresses for $ 30 – I’ll take it!

Politics are the best. But… Workers are rude. Don’t bother dropping stuff off here. They have very particular rules of what they accept. You’ll end up making a trip elsewhere.

There’s something about this place that makes you expect it to be less than it is. Yes, it’s a bit small, a bit shabby. But there’s always great deals to be had, and the staff, whether I’m dropping off or picking up, has always been polite and friendly. Five stars, because I love you for who you are, cracks and all.

Super cheap clothing for sure. I don’t think I knew what I was getting myself into. I was looking for something similar to goodwill and although it is kind of similar, it was a little too tiny and the selection was not to my liking. The clothes were all a little too worn for me.
The biggest downside was that there are 2 «dressing rooms» that are set right by the cashier and are curtain covered making it very weird.
I get that it’s a low budget place. But I didn’t get that before the fact and ended up leaving with a $ 3 skirt after looking for about an hour and a half. I can’t complain but this isn’t the place for me for used clothes shopping.

This is always the first place I go when I’m thrifting. It’s organized, they have good treasures and the staff is friendly.
The free std/​HIV testing is a plus. When I shop here I feel like I’m helping the community.

Good prices, free parking, well organized, and equal proportions of atrocious and delightful clothes = the bomb diggety. Also, they have sales on books all the time, sometimes as low as 50 cents. Beautiful.
BONUS: You’re supporting a good cause. Knowledge is power. Keep yourselves healthy, y’all.

I love this place, close to my house, great daily deals, constant changing stock, and a really decent used book section! The staff is very friendly, and the racks are well organized with a great selection from dress shirts to pants and jackets.
I saw this place one day walking around in the neighborhood, and now I try and stop in once a week for some sweet deals! Absolutely love this thrift store!

This is a wonderful place to donate! They have such a great mission and don’t have nearly as much overhead as Goodwill or the Salvation Army.
They don’t take bed linens but they do take almost everything else. After dropping your stuff in the donation room, just go the counter for a donation form.

I love coming here :) Prices on women’s clothing aren’t quite as good as the location in SF, but with the right sale it works out great and they almost always have something I either can’t live without or something I sadly have to put back but I’m crossing my fingers and toes the whole time, hoping it’s still there when I have a little more spending money.
My boyfriend loves the books and we’re always there for a good hour if there’s a sale on books happening. I’ve found a lot of titles there myself, so it’s all good.
Shout-​out to Shawnda for being super friendly and adorable! I’m as short as she is, and from day one she started calling me her «twin,» which works for me ;-)

I am giving this place 5 stars because of Shawnda and the organization/​relevance of the clothing. I have always lucked out and always find really awesome finds. I even found a authentic vintage Marilynesque style halter dress from Jean Paul Gaultier.
I went there last Saturday and did not budget enough money for «new» work clothes (new to me). I was super embarrassed not having enough money to cover it after she rung up about 15 items. I told her that I will be right back and apologize profusely but she did not have an attitude and said that she will put them aside. I was back about 15 mins later with a different card and she is such a sweetheart about it even tho she had to re-​ring everything up and I even put in a few extra items. Super patient and great customer service!

Already planning on coming back after my first visit. This place was so cute, and it’s right by Lakeshore, which is a super convenient location. As soon as I pulled into the free parking lot, I was pleased. The store is an obvious shade of hot pink, and you can’t miss its quirky sign. The place is filled with racks, labeled by gender, article of clothing, and length (short sleeves/​long sleeves). They’re well organized by color, and a couple minutes of intense sifting through shirts, I found 7 or 8 cute button-​downs. These all went for a wonderful price of less than $ 5 each — depending on the color of the tag, since the store has this cool discount rotation of tag colors, 50%, 30%, and $ 1.
The rest of the store has a small selection of furniture, a pretty large selection of books, some household appliances, and a handful of VHS tapes and records.
All the items are donated, which is great, especially if you need a tax break.
The staff was wonderful. The woman ringing me up at the register was incredibly sweet and funny. They also offer free HIV-​AIDS testing to whoever wants it.

The clothes were really well organized and priced great, especially after you apply the tag-​color discount. I scored a Catholic girl school uniform for about $ 4.
The fitting «rooms» are pretty much a sheet hanging from the ceiling in a circular form. I risked the $ 4. Those sheets looked creepy.
The woman behind the register was more than a bit tweaky. When that second, seemingly more stable, employee came on register I immediately jumped in her line.
Free parking.

There are piles of cute clothes there for the finding if you’ve got the patience to look. The staff are so nice, and every time I go in I see people making use of the free AIDS testing.
Plus, it’s nice to have a place to drop off used clothing. In my neighborhood, many people simply take clothes they don’t want and leave them on the sidewalk where they often mold. When I find those clothes, I take ‘em home wash them, and bring them down to Out of the Closet. Tax break! Ka-​ching!

This place is amazing, especially compared to other thrift shops like Goodwill. The prices are super cheap, and the quality is great. Don’t be fooled by their name, aside from tonnes of clothes they also have quite a good furniture and homewares section.
Everything is clean (in stark contrast to Goodwill, I might add) and the money goes toward a good cause. I will definitely be going back!

There is a cart — check to see if it is being used — that is available for you to wheel to your car to transport your donations.
If you get lucky, there are friendly staff who can help you carry your donations — if they have enough staff at the sales counter.
Donation receipt — in the back room (through the swinging doors) — blow the dust off the keyboard and follow the instructions on the screen to email yourself a receipt.
