We treat accidents, car and sports injuries and problems you just wake up with like: neck and back pain, headaches, sciatica, rib pain, dizziness, hip/​knee/​ankle/​foot, shoulder/​arm/​wrist/​hand, carpal tunnel, arthritis, pregnancy aches and pains and children with injuries or pain.

History

Established in 2000.

After working for fellow colleagues on the east coast Dr. Mark Wong decided to move to sunny California to open up his own practice in Oakland, CA on Grand Avenue.

Dr. Wong is a graduate of Life University in Marietta, GA. He completed his undergraduate work at Muhlenberg College, a private liberal arts college where he majored in pre-​medical studies. From a very young age Dr. Wong knew he wanted to help people get well naturally. Becoming a Chiropractor was his method for achieving this goal.

Dr. Wong graduated from Life University in 1997. He continued his course work learning to treat extremities, meaning shoulders, elbows, wrists, hands, ribs, hips, knees, ankles and feet. He had practiced on the east coast for a few years, then moved to the Bay Area in 1999 and started his own practice in Oakland, California, The Grand Lake Health Center. Dr. Wong feels chiropractic can benefit everyone and every age level. He has personally treated patients from less than a year old to 98 years of age. Prevention of disease is the key to health through chiropractic, nutrition, exercise and stress reduction.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Wong semi regularly for the last year and a half. He’s very easy going and quickly makes you feel comfortable. Do yourself a favor and start seeing a chiro as preventative healthcare not just when you tweak something.

Dr. Wong is a thoughtful and thorough chiropractor. He always asks and listens to what is going on with my body and offers solutions that work. I was in a near fatal car accident a couple years ago and I am now suffering from neck, shoulder, knee and hip issues. I was worried that the hands on manual adjustments would cause more issues and he adjusted my treatment to fit my needs, checking in often to make sure I am comfortable. I haven’t meet many doctors who will do this.
Since I have been seeing Dr. Wong my pain levels have decreased immensely. Dr. Wong has really changed the quality of my life. I am able to hike and bike again and I am on a lower dose of pain management meds. Last but not least he takes insurance and it’s not a big hassle.

Mark is such a careful, skilled chiropractor. I don’t really like ‘forced’ adjustments, and he can adjust any part of my spine with gentle methods. He’s also very affordable and has a flexible schedule.

Dr. Wong is exceptional at what he does. I had bad back pain running down my lower back and leg and after reading on the Internet, I came to a multitude of false conclusions. After seeking his help. In one visit he has already fixed most of my symptoms. Dr. Wong is not quick to diagnose and takes his time in looking at your spine and checking for movement. He also is very personable and has a quick wit– something most doctors do not have! I would send anybody to him in a heart beat and will most definitely be using him whenever I need.

Dr. Wong does great work. He takes time to probe and assess root causes of trouble areas and uses targeted treatment. He’s also personable and shows he cares about the client’s overall health. He accepts last minute appointments and doesn’t pressure to return soon. I would highly recommend him.

I am a long time fan of Dr. Wong’s work, having been through two pregnancies, a few small car accidents and the body strain of getting older with help from his treatment. Here’s why I love his work:
1. Never rushed, he takes plenty of time to talk with me and assess my issues. He does several types of adjustments including tissue work (like a mini massage), manual adjustment, and activator release. Probably there’s more he can do, just ask. He’s super friendly.
2. He has never hurt me, nor have I left with more pain than I came in with. I’m super sensitive to bad adjustments and tissue work thats too deep, so this is a big deal to me. Even at 35 weeks pregnant I feel totally safe and better after he’s done.
3. Even my 8 year old has benefitted from his treatment. Lets face it, a heavy backpack, a lot of running and too much time on my laptop have led to some young back problems which Dr. Wong has also treated skillfully.
4. Super convenient. I can always call and get an appointment the same day or the next day, and he returns calls promptly even outside of his business hours. He takes my health insurance and dealt with auto insurance for me after one of the accidents. It’s usually easy to park in the meter spaces out front, even on farmers market days at grand lake.

Dr. Wong knows what he’s doing! I’ve had upper back/​neck issues for over 10 years and have seen 4 chiropractors over that span. Being new to Oakland, I went to Unilocal to seek out a new chiro. His reviews were spot on. I knew from my first visit that Dr. Wong was good! He can see with his hands! I love when I find a chiropractor who really knows their practice. Dr. Wong fixed me! I went to a physical therapist and it didn’t help.
I looked for a chiropractor on Unilocal,and within my network, and found Dr. Wong.
He is extremely calm and patient. He is thorough and takes time to explain things.
He doesn’t REQUIRE X-​rays automatically, which was important to me.
It’s an added bonus he has Saturday appointments!
I would definitely recommend him.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Wong for several weeks now for back pain especially when sleeping. I was in a car accident some time ago. Dr. Wong is very gentle and super nice. He always chats with you during the appointment and you forget that you’re getting body work done. My back had definitely seen improvement. Thank goodness his practice accepts insurance.

I have been seeing chiropractors for several years and Dr. Wong is by far the best! He is extremely gentle and effective. I came to him last year because I suffer from stress pain mostly in my upper back and neck. It was to the point where I had a pinched nerve and my arm was starting to feel numb. One visit with him and I felt MUCH better. I have continued to see him and I’ve gotten helpful advice on exercise and posture techniques to reduce my stress pain.

Dr Wong has been a back saver! I just moved to the Bay Area and started out with a few different dr’s but then I found dr Wong. After the first adjustment I was hooked!!! He might be the best chiropractor I’ve ever been to. His place is easy to get too with lots of parking, also a bonus in my book.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Wong for a number of months now and he has become my go-​to guy when it comes to chiropractic work. I am not easily impressed with bodyworkers because of my years of experience with them so it takes me some time to really trust in the work they do.
Well, Dr. Wong fits everything that I think is important for a chiropractor. He’s very thorough with his evaluation, explains clearly step by step what his adjustment will be and do for you, he’s patient, and he’s got great bedside manners. Chiropractic work can be a little unnerving especially for those who aren’t experienced with it but his demeanor is just very calm and patient and most importantly, effective. I have had neck and back pain that had never gone away with other chiropractic adjustments but with him, one atlas adjustment and the pain was gone, just like that. Amazing! He’s got a wealth of knowledge and techniques that he uses too, doesn’t just always use the same adjustment over and over again like I’ve experienced with so many other chiropractors. Thanks Dr. Wong! See you in the office very soon!

I went in because I was suffering from chronic lower back pain (bikram yoga practitioners, beware!) and a stiff neck with very low mobility on one side of the neck.
Dr. Wong conducted a thorough exam, explaining with an anatomical model exactly where my nerves were being pinched, where the spines needed to be adjusted, what the ultimate chiropractic goal should be, etc.
And then he magically fixed everything in less than 30 minutes. He is very ethical, calm, and gentle. He put some of my concave ribs back into place and straightened out my sacrum. Then he cracked my neck joints on both sides, and wow! I can turn my neck with full mobility!
I could feel the difference in my steps as I left the office. No more pain in my left hip joint. I kept bobbing my head from side to side as I rode my bike home because… because I can!
He charges $ 50/​session for people without insurance, which is extremely reasonable. Needless to say, I’m going back next week.

Let me start by saying that Chiropractors terrify me! There is something about giving someone the power to literally crack your neck and back. Dr. Wong was awesome. He put my mind at ease and explained eveything he was doing. My wife recommended him to me and I am recommending him to you.

Dr. Wong is a great. He’s a really nice and genuine guy. You definitely don’t get that feeling that you’re getting conned like when you go to many other chiropractors. I’ve been to several near my office. I never felt like he pushed me to come in more that I needed to.

Gotta love Dr Wong — he’s always got my back.
Literally, I come in with tangled muscles and out-​of-​whack bones, and leave feeling like more of a pre-​Computer Era human and less of a hunched-​over laptop drone. It’s a beautiful thing!
Chiropractors are like hair stylists in the sense that you have to enjoy spending time with them, and feel comfortable confessing your bad habits (using cheap shampoo, or selling your ergonomic chair on craigslist instead of keeping it like you should have). And Dr Wong is rad in this way. He is super mellow, very calming to be around — but not in an eerie, spiritual way. He’s happy to share knowledge to help me feel better outside of his office, not just during my visits. Did you know that the «cracking» sound your body makes when it’s being adjusted is actually air being released from the cramped space between your bones? Yup, just another trivia tidbit I learned from Dr. Wong.
Best of all, his adjustment style is heavy on massage, vs. just snapping things into place. Most of my appointments last 30 – 40 mins because he’ll massage certain areas before adjusting them. A very nice bonus, if you ask me!
If you have chronic neck/​shoulder pain (like yours truly here) from spending too much time living in the virtual world, visit Dr Wong and discover how much different your body can feel when it’s being ‘encouraged’ back to a healthy alignment. PS — he accepts Blue Cross/​Shield health coverage, another reason I’m hooked on weekly visits.

When you go to a chiropractor, best case scenario is you leave remembering how you’re «supposed» to feel, as in, alleviation of pain. I’m a casual chiropractic customer – no chronic pains or issues. However, I’ve had lower back issues from time to time and have seen my share of chiropractors. Most resulted in mediocre results.
Recently, I found myself feeling very annoyed at not feeling any better after two weeks of soreness. A friend recommended Dr. Wong and I was able to get an appointment within two days. After a very thorough examination, Dr. Wong did a few adjustments and I walked out of the office having no pain. Huge yay! A week later, I had one more appointment and am quite relieved to be feeling back to normal as of now.
I highly recommend Dr. Wong and am thrilled to have a go-​to chiropractor.
