Mark the Cat Sitter

Mark is fantastic!
My kitties are my babies and I hate to leave them but, when I absolutely have to, Mark’s my guy! He’s super easy to book with, his rates are totally reasonable and I love that he sends me updates and pictures. My cats tend to uh… act out a bit when I leave them for more than a day or two but not when I have Mark taking care of them. The extra attention and play time really make a difference and I always come home to relaxed, happy cats. Thanks Mark!

Mark did a great job with my cat, my cat loves him and he was super responsible and organized. I was very impressed and will definitely be hiring him again! I am now confident that my furry friend will be well taken care of while I’m out globe trotting.

I’ve been working with Mark for about a year, and always feel confident that my 2 cats are in excellent hands when we leave. Mark is thorough, and extremely communicative. We receive text/​email updates daily when we’re out of town. When we return, the cats always seem happy and relaxed.
Since Mark has been taking on more clients, he’s onboarded a new teammate, Becka. Becka looked after our kitties over Thanksgiving. We got a lot of updates over email while we were gone, and got some pics too. Again, not surprisingly, given that Becka has received lots of support and guidance from Mark, the cats looked like they were very happy and well cared for, and extra soft (I think maybe she brushed them while we were gone :)). The place was clean, and she helped with cleaning up when the cats threw up (as they do :/​). I really enjoyed interacting with Becka — she was awesome and I felt like the kitties were happy with her attention and care.

I started working with Mark because I was on a long term project in Asia. As it turned out, I ended up being away 5 to 10 days every month for 6 months. My cat, Buffy, is a 16 year old Persian kitty with no teeth. In the beginning, Mark was very attentive and sent me photos of Buffy when I was away. As much as I hated being away from her, I felt comforted by the fact there was someone to take good care of her.
Unfortunately my experience with the last trip was heartbreaking. I was scheduled to return on Saturday. My neighbor came by Saturday morning to check in on Buffy. She indicated some litter box issues and that Buffy had not touched her food at all. She also indicated the two cans of food was just dumped in the bowl. Buffy has no teeth and the food has to be broken up for her. This was indicated to Mark from our first meeting. The last email I received from Mark on Friday indicated Buffy was happy to see him, enjoyed her food and her litter box was cleaned. This was common language he had used in the past. When I got back home, Buffy was not well and had diarrhea. She was really lifeless. I called the Emergency center and knew I had to take Buffy to the vet first thing Sunday morning. I called Mark to see if there was anything odd he noticed so I could properly indicate her symptoms to her vet. He then confessed she had not touched her food when he saw her on Friday. This made me sad and angry as he misrepresented her condition in his email to me.
Based on the preliminary results of the blood work and urine analysis, Buffy has an urinary tract infection and possibly a kidney infection. When I shared this with Mark in an email, he indicated he was very busy with the growing success of his business. I can certainly appreciate the stress placed on a small business as it begins to scale. However unfortunately this occurred as detriment to my poor little Buffy. Her condition could have been caused by stale food or water, etc. I am hopeful Buffy will be ok. It is up to you to decide if this is someone you could trust to care for your cat and beloved family member. I have shed many tears over Buffy’s recovery.

Just like most of you reading this comment I was tired of having to put my two cats in boarding when I travel. I found Mark on Unilocal,read his great reviews, and decided to give him a shot. He was extremely professional, organized, and obviously loves cats. He took great care of our cats and kept everything extremely clean. I highly recommended his services.

We hired Mark on a recommendation from my husbands coworker and we are so glad we did! Mark watched our cat for 3 weeks while we were away on our honeymoon. We recently moved to the bay area and didn’t have any friends or family that would have been able to watch our cat for such a long period of time. We knew that our cat being a bengal (a very active cat breed) would not do well at a boarding facility or in another person’s home with other pets.
Having to leave our cat for 3 weeks was one of the most stressful parts of the entire wedding planning. We are very attached to our cat and had never left her for such a long period of time, and in the past we had always had family nearby to watch her. As soon as we met Mark we were instantly relieved, he was very professional and organized. We had Mark visit our cat everyday and we did extended visits a few times a week. He made being away from our cat stress free, he was in constant email communication, and even sent pictures of our cat.
Our cat acted out a few times while we were gone by peeing on some towels and clothing and knocking down and breaking glass containers. Mark was always sure to let us know every time she did this, he didn’t try to hide it which was very much appreciated. He cleaned up all her messes and even got the urine smell out of the clothes and towels, which we was a pleasant surprise.
The next time we go out of town we will hire Mark without hesitation!

Mark lived up to all the 5 star ratings! We used him for the first time for a 2-​week trip to Hawaii. He was totally dependable, kept us updated, and most importantly, was honest about the fact that he hadn’t seen one of our cats (who is semi-​feral and terrified of strangers). So we then checked in with our downstairs neighbor, who reported seeing her. That was a relief. I really appreciated Mark’s honesty — he didn’t pretend he’d seen her when he hadn’t (not his fault). Our other cat awaited his visits eagerly! Mark brought in our mail, watered plants, etc. Followed all instructions we’d covered. Smart, kind, a good listener — we will definitely be using him again!

I first found Mark through Unilocal,because I needed someone to watch my cat while I was away over New Year’s. All the local boarding places had already filled to capacity, and Mark was able to help out.
Mark is a great communicator and he will pay close attention to your pets. When my cat got sick, he helped me administer subcutaneous fluids to her on a weekly basis, which I think helped prolong her life. He was also there to give me emotional support when I had to put my cat down, which was extra kind of him.
I don’t think you’ll find a cat sitter who will do more to keep you and your pets happy. This is your guy.

We’ve hired Mark on several occasions and are extremely satisfied. He’s professional and a true cat lover. He sends us picture updates which is a wonderful addition to sitting. When I mentioned we had a sick cat, he responded with great questions and recommendations. He truly cares and it shows.

From the moment he came into our house to meet us and our cat, he knew the right questions to ask and even some beyond what I would normally even think about when leavin my cat in other’s hands.
Both days he came to cat sit, he texted us a summary of how our cat was doing along with a photo. I loved that! I can tell when I look at my cat if she’s feeling happy, sad, sassy or mad. First day she was content. happy…second day, she totally had sass going on. like she was already getting used to him and being her true sassy self.
Mark was kind, caring and my cat actually liked him, which is rare let me tell ya!
Will definitely be using Mark’s cat services again and I highly recommend for any of you with fur babies to take care of when you cannot.

I want to give Mark a recent Unilocal review because many of his reviews are from 2014. He is wonderful. When your cats meet him on the first «interview» they can tell he is a good guy. I started using Mark over a year ago and he has provided services on long and short visits. When I am away and I know Mark is taking care of my cats, I feel like I have nothing to worry about. In addition to taking great care of the kitties, he waters my outdoor plants, brings in the newspaper, sorts the mail and sends periodic texts with updates on the cats. Wow. You’ll not get anyone better if you are shopping around for a good cat sitter. Totally recommend Mark.

Mark took care of our two little long-​haired lady tuxedo cats while we were on our honeymoon for two weeks in early December. He was very thorough, professional, and warm, starting with an in-​person at home consultation where he took down all of our information. We’ve never left our cats for that long, so I was a little nervous about it. My anxiety about our trip quickly dissipated after five minutes of talking to him, and we were able to take off without worrying about our «babies.» One of our cats, Clover, immediately starting winding around his ankles,
Mark even took our mail in and sorted it, which was super helpful. He provided regular updates on them, even though our cats were REALLY uncooperative in terms of coming out from under the bed/​closet/​etc — totally normal behavior for them with strangers when we aren’t in the house. So, we weren’t too concerned about that. They were near-​feral when we adopted them and they have really only warmed to us.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have Mark take care of my kitty several times over the past few years when I have had to travel. He is professional, honest, caring and reliable. He even offered to stop by off-​schedule to check on my cat when there was an emergency at my house. I can’t say enough good things about Mark!

I’m one of those neurotic cat owners who is convinced that my four cats will feel I abandoned them, plus I have three former ferals who have some emotional problems, so leaving for a week with someone just coming in and out is not an option for me.
Mark did overnights at my house for five nights, sending me updates and photos morning and night.
I came home to happy cats! And as someone else mentioned, there was no litter on the floor — it was swept up!
I’d never had anyone I didn’t know stay in my house, so it made me a bit anxious, but Mark was really great at keeping me posted on things. He brought in my mail, he put out the garbage and recycling and my house was as clean when I came back as it would have been had I not been away.

Mark is beyond sweet, extremely attentive and very professional. I am a very uptight and slightly crazy cat lady who needs someone to assuage me anxiety and demonstrate affinity for my finicky cat. From the moment they met I could tell my cat (who hates most of my friends) loved Mark. He climbed right in his lap and didn’t try to hide. When we returned home and Mark came over for the key exchange my cat leapt off the couch and ran over for cuddles! I think he might like Mark more me!

We just moved back to town and needed a cat sitter. We found Mark on Unilocal and couldn’t be happier. He has been expedient about communications, enthusiastic about the cats, and a reliable sitter. I LOVE my cats. Like, really really crazily love my cats — before Mark I never used a cat sitter and of course was hesitant to try. However, having worked with Mark several times now it’s hard to imagine how I managed without.

Mark came out to assist in taking care of our two cats while the wife and I were out of town, and he did a fabulous job! He was highly professional, especially when it became clear that a friend coming on our trip also needed a cat sitter.
All 3 cats stayed at our home, and with one being a kitten and one being a grumpy old man (cat), I expected Mark would have his hands full. He tended to the needs of each cat, made sure they got plenty of attention, and made sure the house was still in great shape when we returned home.

Mark has come and watched our two cats multiple times and we (and our cats!) think he’s great.
It’s very important that one of our cats be given medicine every 12 hours to control seizures, and Mark is reliable and great at getting him to take his pill.
On top of that, he’s a really nice guy! The cats agree — they always run right up and greet him. Highly recommended.
