Marion & Rose’s Workshop features a well-​edited collection of fine handcrafted, heirloom quality goods made in the USA. We are honored to support the American makers movement.

We stock high quality, well crafted items by a select group of innovative American designers, artisans and craftspeople. We seek out the perfect goods for the home, person and pet, from artisans and companies who have small scale, sustainable, and ethical manufacturing processes.

While many of our vendors are local, our focus is on finding items of quality and originality, a search that takes us all over the country.

History

Established in 2011.

Opened in 2011 as part of the Popuphood project in Old Oakland, the shop has gone on to become a permanent fixture to the neighborhood.

This little shop is amazing. I always find a truly unique and perfect gift here. It’s my go to place. The selection changes and is personally curated by the owner. She has great taste FYI. A wide range of items complete a wonderful experience. Just walking around is refreshing and intriguing. I will always end up here and find exactly what I am looking for, even if I didn’t know what I was seeking.

Marion & Rose has been located in Downtown Oakland since 2011, carrying only American made products from small suppliers and makers. With a true dedication to domestic production and the impact that has on our economy, the owner Kerri, has been a long time member of the Oakland community, and we are so lucky to have her here. My go to spot for gifts and when I need an extra special something for the house.

Marion and Rose presents an example of the direction of commerce that our society needs. An antidote to big box stores and overcomsumption of disposable goods that are made far from the buyer.
The response to the inevitable objection of higher prices:
A single item might be priced higher than a single item in chain stores, but if that single item replaces multiple cheaper items unnecessarily purchased and hence uncherished, then the net cost is not a bigger chunk of the budget.
Though we live in an irreversiblly global economy, their Made-​in-​America theme is noteworthy and deserves supporting. It contributes an important element to the commercial spectrum.

This is such a great shop, prominently displayed in beautiful Old Oakland, this place is a destination when in Oakland! Kerry has an eye for beauty and truly cares about keeping jobs local-​all products in her shop are handmade in America-​seriously! I have bought so many gifts here for loved ones, I can’t walk past this shop without stopping in!

If you like nice things, and giving or receiving gifts, this place is for you. It’s my new favorite hipster tchotchke shop, full of letterpressed cards, whimsical art prints (and originals), locally-​made kitchen/​bath/​home goods, and a wall of interesting magazines (the Issues Annex). Very nice place to browse, and service was friendly.

The kind of luxury items I like are the ones that make me happy and that I use all the time. Soap, for example. You’d be surprised how much really good soap improves your day. (Full disclosure: The store carries soap made by a friend of mine, but it’s not the only kind I buy here. Sorry, Outlaw Soaps. I never promised things with us would be exclusive.)
If you like having fewer, better-​quality things around your home, things that don’t break, things that just *work,* things that make you feel great every time you use them and — bonus! — things made in the US, often in California and even here in Oakland, this is the place to get those things. The feel of the place is homey and a little rustic without being kitschy. You’ll pay more than you would for low-​quality mass-​produced things, but personally, I think that’s how things are supposed to work.

Great store. A friend bought me some flour sack towels from here, and they have come in pretty hand. One day she pointed out the store, and I wanted to check it out. Came in and bought some natural ingredient deodorant, called Schimdt’s, and it works really well. This is the kind of store that many people would say is kind of random, but with a lot of really cool things that you would also like to have if you had your own store.

This shop is such an Oakland gem! It’s my go-​to spot for exceptionally curated local wares, as well as items that are made in the USA. One of my favorite American made products is the Faribault blankets and throws. The shop has a very friendly owner who will explain the provenance of the items in the shop. There is also a fantastic card selection for every occasion.

Such a cute store, and the owner is really nice. They also seem to participate in a number of events/​host them, so check them out! If you ever need a card, definitely stop by here. Other than that, they don’t have a HUGE stock of inventory, but that also helps to keep the shop charming and clean, I think. They have some lotions, cards, tea towels, artwork, a small section of jewelry, candles, and dishware/​do dads. Definitely a great spot to stop by in Old Oakland!

Well chosen items, lots of them local. The owner who is usually behind the counter is very polite and seems to enjoy interacting with customers. Great jewelry and soap selection and plenty of handprinted stationary. Also a great place to pick up your current issue of Kinfolk magazine.

Old Oakland has transformed over the last several years into a destination neighborhood. I love Miss Ollies and Cosecha restaurants. They both specialize in organic, high quality ingredients and are located a block away in the re-​invented Swan Market. While there, you should stop by this cute shop with local products including unique greeting cards and handmade gifts. I enjoyed chatting with the friendly and sweet proprietor about her concept. Check it out.

It’s a store that sells everything you already own but with in handmade colorful aesthetic. The store is neatly organized. I liked the fact that you could pickup and handle anything you like in an easy to grab sort of way. At other stores I’m usually having to dig through a pile while glass items are dangerously displayed behind me. The only negative is that the store feels a little sparse in selection. Curated for the middle-​high income female; although, I don’t blame the store for not being aimed at me.
I was under the impression that everything is local (many things are). However, to be sure you should ask or read the tags to see where everything is from. I saw some cool pillows in the store yet found out online that the pillows are from Portland. Still cool and small batch designs.

Great place if you need to browse for a gift. Kinda like Etsy, but in person. It’s a bit hard not to go to Etsy in the first place.

Marion and Rose’s is a real find. It’s a local business filled with fun and funky items. Although a little on the pricey side, this shop is a great place to get unique gifts: beautiful handmade cards, shoulder bags, doggie pillows, jewelry, soaps, napkins, framed photographs. There are lots of birds on things (soon to be replaced by sloths). I’m told that my necklace was made by a local Oakland-​based artist, which makes me love it all the more. If you go to the website, perhaps you’ll see my bejeweled neck — the «curator» photographed me after I made my purchase. Talk about making customers feel special! They’re giving away free Oakland totes, good while supplies last.

Really neat local artists stuff here. Cute items for the house, clothes, accessories, paper goods. A bit on the pricey side but thats what you pay for handmade, often one of a kind, creations.
There was a bit more artsy looking stuff in the back area that I wasn’t sure if it was for sale or just on display. But definitely check it out you guys. Good gift store for any local supporter of the arts and crafts.

Tucked away in Old Oakland, is this arts & crafts gem — Marion and Rose’s Workshop. I found out about the Holidayland event via (drumroll please) Unilocal and am excited that I did. M&R features many local artists and craftists. There was so much to look at, feel, and even smell (No, that’s not weird; they had lavender and sage sachets.) The lady working the store today was very friendly and excited about all the items for sale. I didn’t end up buying anything (the goal was to shop for others, but I wanted everything for myself… oops), but I did find out about some great local designers. Some examples of fun finds: ‘cashmere’-like stuffed elephants, hydrangea (and other flower) hair accessories, rabbit earrings made of wood, tea napkins, scarves, ornaments, …
