We love our family photos by Lusa! She made it a relaxing and fun shoot with no awkwardness and everyone felt comfortable. Our little one was grumpy that day but Lusa was able to beautifully capture her many expressions, including a few smiles here and there, and was very patient with us with all the interruptions. It was wonderful that she was able to incorporate our ideas into the shoot and offer up some of her unique ideas as well. The photos turned out beautifully, perfectly edited. Turn around time was also super quick. Overall, we had a great experience and would highly recommend Lusa if you want high quality, professional pictures at an affordable price!

We recently had our newborn photos taken by Lusa, and her assistant, at our home. Wow, she was terrific! She’s a skilled photographer, no doubt about it; but, what really impressed me was how difficult newborns can be to capture – and, to that end, how patient she was with our son. We just received the final product: we could not be happier!
During the shoot, my son did everything possible to foul things up! He cried when the lighting was best; slept when we needed him awake; nursed when we needed him asleep… I’m pretty sure he even peed on Lusa. Nevertheless, Lusa was a real professional. She patiently waited for the right moments, then snapped the picture. She could have called it quits much sooner than she did; but she hung in there, and made sure that we got the images that she knew would make us most happy.
There are plenty of good photographers out there. BUT, newborns are really a challenge to shoot. If you want professional newborn photos, make sure your photographer has experience shooting newborns! Lusa certainly proved up to the task.
In addition to being both a skilled photographer, with newborn experience, Lusa’s prices were super, super reasonable! We checked with several east bay photographers … nobody even came close to offering what she offered, for her price. Nobody.
So, if you’re looking for a skilled photographer, with newborn experience and/​or you want good value: call Lusa.

I looked at a lot of photographers to photograph my newborn and settled on Lusa after reading the Unilocal reviews and speaking with several photographers. Lusa came to my home with her props and her assistant, spent 3 hours shooting my baby and produced the most beautiful photos i’ve ever seen. they’re even better than my wedding photos! if you’re looking for a photographer, look no further than Lusa. she’s the best!

Lusa is the best! We first had a shoot with Lusa to capture my wife’s pregnancy at 8 months and have now used her exclusively to shoot our newborn. Lusa has such a warm and creative eye, and will work with you until she gets the shots you want. We really enjoy working with Lusa, HIGHLY recommend her, and feel fortunate to have found her!!!

If you need a photographer who is professional with a great personality then Lusa is the person to call.
She has done my maternity photo, my son’s newborn photo (my son is 5 month old now) and recently my family’s photo. One thing I really like about her is that she make sure that we are all comfortable in front of the camera. Which is a plus because my husband is not comfortable when it comes to someone taking his photo but he was totally at ease during our photo sessions with Lusa. She explain what we need to do and listen to few of our suggestions.
She was also good with my then newborn and now 5 month old bundle of joy. My son’s photo turn out great because lusa was very patient and was able to make my son smile and laugh. My son did not cry the whole photo sessions and that says a lot about a photographers skills with baby !!!
All the photos from all 3 photo sessions we had with her turns out really beautiful and creative that i cant decide which ones i want to frame =)

Lusa is super professional and easy to work with. She showed up to our appt on time, made us feel comfortable within 5 minutes and went to work. Our photos looked so natural. Not that I know too much about photography technique, but I’m sure Lusa really has skills. She was able to use sunlight in our pics at the right angles which made our photos look like they are from a magazine.
Her prices are very reasonable and I would definitely recommend her!

We first hired Lusa in May of 2012. I was so nervous about my 3 year old and five year old sitting still and behaving. When I saw the pictures, I couldn’t believe the amazing shots she’d gotten while my little ones ran around and played. They are my favorite pictures of my kids and the best family photos we’ve ever taken. When my son was born I took him in to a professional studio EVERY MONTH to have his picture taken. I love family photos! I will never go to a studio again. After seeing the results from the first session, we asked Lusa to meet our extended family and photograph my father’s 70^th birthday celebration last weekend. I can’t wait to see them!!!

My family and I have been looking for a photographer to take our first family photo, and we were referraled to Lusa Lai photography. We were a little nervous since our son, who was 16 months at time was a little irritable due to teething, however Lusa was patient and flexible with us. She even managed to get a couple smiles out of our son! Lusa made us feel comfortable and never once did we feel like we were «posing» for a picture, everything just came naturally and it is all due to her ability to work with all the elements at hand. Overall, our experience with her was amazing and the photos turned our phenomenal. We would definitely recommend her to everyone no matter what the occasion. We are definitely going to hire her again!

My boyfriend, now fiancé, worked with Lusa to have her (secretly) photograph us during his proposal.
My fiancé continues to rave about how easy it was to work with her, as he was extremely nervous but it was clear she genuinely cared about making him feel comfortable and confident that she would come through and beautifully capture the big moment.
The proposal was to happen at Dolores Park, which he’d previously scouted out and selected what was supposed to be a secluded location. Unexpected plans came up and Lusa graciously accommodated the schedule change — which also meant that the proposal was now happening on May 5… yes, Cinco de Mayo, a total curve ball.
Dolores Park was jam packed with thousands of drunken festival go-​ers, so the location he had mind was now out of the question. During the minutes leading up to the rendez vous point, he was sneaking off to text message her and coordinate a new plan… of which Lusa not only was there early but she managed to scout out a NEW location (at the bridge overlooking the park) for him to lead me to and pop the question. This turned out to be a BETTER location — the bridge arches added a new dimension to the backdrop in our photos my fiancé, not having an experienced photographer’s eye, would not have picked up. During the big moment, Lusa carefully hid behind a statue and took candid shots of my fiancé pouring his heart out —
After the proposal, my fiancé reveals that Lusa was there photographing us the whole time — and she proceeded to take such posed shots of me showing off my new bling :)
These pictures will definitely go into our wedding slide show, in the mean time, it’s part of our «save the date» for the engagement party :)
We loved Lusa’s elegant (but not overly abstract) images, and her over the top dedication and commitment so much that we are having her shoot my «dam hoi», the traditional Vietnamese engagement ceremony. She’s taken the time to meet with me to go through the day’s events and allow me to highlight the particular moments that will definitely need to be captured. I can’t wait for my second round with her, updates on that to come —
Also worth noting is that while she’s been photographing for a while now, she has recently expanded into and focus more on engagements and wedding ceremonies, making her more reasonable and within my budget than others I looked at on the market.
