I help adults and children to solve worries and get life back on track when problems are derailing ordinary satisfactions and pleasures. Sadness, loneliness, dissatisfaction with your life… knowing yourself better and changing patterns of behavior that drag you down are the keys to greater pleasure and satisfaction with your life. Psychoanalytic therapy is appropriate for both general distress, such as depression and anxiety, as well as specific problems, such as eating disorders, chronic self-sabotage, relationship difficulties, school or work failure, or general dissatisfaction with the course of one’s life. I also consult with parents on their concerns about their children.
History
Established in 1982.
I established my practice in Oakland in 1982 as a newly licensed psychologist. Since then I have trained as a child psychologist at the Ann Martin Center in Oakland and as a psychoanalyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. In addition to my private practice I teach in graduate psychology programs, supervise interns in psychology and run an early childhood mental health program for the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis. All of these activities broaden my perspective on the ordinary and extra-ordinary difficulties people face in life.

Business Owner
I have been interested in how people work from childhood and pursued that interest by studying psychology as an undergraduate. Because I was clear about my desire to practice psychology independently, I went for my doctorate at a professional school. When I became licensed in 1982, I realized a long time dream. Ten years later I decided to pursue psychoanalytic training to increase my depth of understanding of people and to improve my ability to help others. I graduated as a psychoanalyst in 1999 after five years of intensive training.
