Inn at Temescal

Pros:
Decent rate per night– we paid 160/​night. The room was designed well with nice décor. That is all that I have nice to say about this place. The fact that there were pubic hairs in every towel was pretty disgusting. Also the walls must be paper thin because you can hear EVERYTHING. The room also had a musky odor and smelled like stale cigarettes. There was a loud group of drunks outside our room one night. When we told the front desk about it, all he had to say was that those people left and we wouldn’t hear them again. I’m sure there is more that I’m forgetting as I’m finishing this review that I started in March. We will not come back here.

CLEAN AND FRIENDLY. This is a gem of a hotel in Oakland. It has just been remodeled and is very clean. The parking is free and I felt my car was safe. The guy working when we checked in was friendly and talkative, I liked him. He was also there in the morning over seeing the room cleaning which I take as a good sign. MMFWCL

Awesome experience especially for the price. Not super cheap but not expensive compared to other inns or hotels in the Oakland area. The staff was awesome and very accommodating! One drawback is that there is no mini fridge with microwave but the staff was able to refrigerate my food. The area seemed safe, I was able to walk around a few blocks without much worry. There are homeless people in the area but they did not panhandle me and for the most part were pretty friendly. Hardwood floors were a plus. My stay was very quiet, the bed was super comfortable, and I had a good nights rest every night. I knocked off a star because the shower curtain was dirty towards the very bottom, and the window curtain was sheer. At night you could see through the curtain and into the hotel room. Not a big deal if you sleep in the dark and if you walk around fully clothed ;-) I like my privacy so that did not sit well with me.

Nicely remodeled. Clean, comfortable, and straightforward accomodations. A special thank you to Nick who was super helpful, kind, and always had a huge smile on his face.

I really enjoyed this hotel. I called about a question on booking online, the guy who answered was so kind and accommodating. So booking was easy and price was ok, the area is questionable looking, but didn’t seem to bad. When I checked I was taken care of so well, I think her name was Claudia, that’s probably wrong though. I have a horrible memory. She was so cute and nice. The room was great, it felt clean and taken care of. It did smell like maybe someone smoked in it prior to our check in, but it wasn’t bad. I’m just sensitive to smell. I loved the black out blinds. Theirs actually blanket out all the light. The front door did let a lot of noise in, I was woken up twice from a fire truck or ambulance. Overall I liked it. I’ll stay there again.

I appreciate the thought they put in the remodel. It’s comfortable and clean, yet simple and affordable. Finally a hotel room without carpet! Duh! It was reassuring to know that whatever was before is an easy clean and not breading new strains of bacteria.
Since I’ve lived in this neighborhood years ago, the sights of behavior doesn’t phase me. However, if your the type that «stays away» from Oakland *cough* pansy* than your going to feel «uncomfortable».
I’m super impressed by how they made everything work ! I’ll look forward to staying here again… my opinion being in West Oakland that is, which I missed so much!

This was my first time staying at this hotel. Being greeted by Nick was an experience in itself! He opened the door and greeted me like we were long-​lost friends. Outgoing, helpful, jovial, you name it. We asked for a ground floor room, he had it. It is very basic, clean, and recently remodeled from last October 2015. It isn’t perfect but it serves the purpose for one night. We noted a couple of things to Nick that we thought could use attention and by the next morning he said he had already spoken to whoever was in charge of those kinds of things and they would be taken care of. Very much appreciated our feedback. I would stay there again. Nick makes the place!

Perfect hotel for me to stay at when not feeling like commuting home to the Central Valley after working a long shift. I work at Kaiser Permanente which is right down the street.
The hotel is modern and has been updated in the last year. The area seems fine, and safe to me, just loud because it’s on a busy corner of Telegraph & MacArthur. I solved this problem by using a white noise app on my phone to help drown out any loud traffic I might hear. I read other reviews that recommended ear plugs, it’s really not that bad. But I’m a city girl at heart so idk (born SF)

The staff is what makes this place special. Nickolas checked me in and he was more than welcoming. He gave me info on the history and background of the area, which I was interested in as Oakland is so rich with culture and beauty. I’m so proud to work in this area!

Very unsafe feeling and I’m pretty brave. None of the towels were deep cleaned, there were pubic hairs and stains on them and the sheets smelled funny. I had to tissue dry. Yep used tissues to dry myself after my shower. Very low quality and low cleaning standards. My room smelled like pot so badly I could hardly breathe. When I complained they offered me a refund but never followed through. Life is short stay somewhere nicer. You deserve it.

These reviews are bogus or the hotel gave them an incentive to post great reviews here. Their linens and rooms are remodeled and the pics do the rooms justice. The location and level of low class patrons is something they forgot to mention in their promotions. Transients fighting in the hotel parking lot, ladies of the night roaming around and oh a few of my things missing. Two of two über drivers asked me if they should walk me to my door because it was very unsafe and the place look sketchy. NEVER AGAIN.

This place is great value. Rooms very clean and comfy. Not a lot of delicious eating in immediate vicinity, but great access to Bart.
Also, Nick is amazing. Genuinely friendly and helpful. Best customer service I’ve ever had.

Excellent place to stay in Oakland. Minutes away from some great coffee shops and restaurants. The staff is super welcoming and friendly. During my 4 night stay, the manager was always making sure that I was taken care of. The room is clean and very modern. I will definitely stay here again!

Like everyone keeps saying, don’t let the area scare you. It actually wasn’t that bad, as far as Oakland goes. And Nick at the front desk is quite fantastic and helpful. The room was clean, quaint, comfy, and I’d definitely stay here again if need be. The two downsides are its NOISY outside and there’s no shelves in the shower, so you have to reach out to get your toiletries. I’d stay here again.

Absolutely fantastic experience here! The Inn is clean, comfortable, and feels quite safe even if it is a slightly gritty neighborhood. The parking is free, internet included, and the rooms even come with nice Keurig coffee. Plus there are tons of great restaurants and coffee shops nearby. I couldn’t believe how attentive the staff was — they helped out with every request, and even called back to double check if we needed anything else. Nick was so great and helpful! The place is so warm and friendly — I will definitely be staying here again. Plus, it’s super close to Macaurthur BART station so getting into SF was no problem.

Very nice brand new rooms, new showers, toilets, floors and furniture. Because it’s only 25 minutes from the city (SF) it’ll do well, great location by the freeway. The Best part was the direct tv and liquor store next door…

Stayed here for a night just to get away from home. To be honest driving up I was a little nervous about what I was bout to get into because of the area. I quickly wondered if hotwire would give me my money back lol. However, I gave it a shot. Firstly, the guy that was working yesterday (tuesday) was freaking awesome. Totally cool helpful dude and made check-​in a breeze. I instantly felt comfortable in the area and at the Inn.
Now, I took a breath before scanning my room key to get in, but once I did, WOOOOOW! I can’t express the shock of happiness I felt. The room is super cute and totally updated in a modern way. Bed was comfy, 150 cable channels on a huge flat screen, a keurig, cute dining set, clean shower, enlightening décor. The Inn at Temescal did not dissapoint. The city is doing construction on the roadway, so it kind of sucked waking up to that. Plenty of food pllaces and things to do if you have an extended stay. Now, if this were a hotel with room service, I might’ve stayed another night. I am thoroughly happy with my stay, and if I ever need to staycation somewhere local again, it’ll definitely be there.

When we first booked our room we were a little worried about the area, but I’m glad we chose to stay here. The staff was friendly, the room was clean, and bed was comfortable. My only complaint is, there isn’t a place to put the soap or towel while showering.

Staff is friendly and well informed. What the staff person didn’t know, she looked up on the Internet. Keurig coffee is a nice touch.
BUT: Area is heavily trafficked and rooms have very poor sound attenuation. You hear constant traffic and every conversation outside, including the arguments at the liquor store next door — this is from the second floor. Dirt level isn’t horrible, but is definitely substandard. Every light switch was smudged with dirt. Floor is laminate so it shows everything. Plenty of unswept up items visible on floor. Door frames sticky to the touch.
General limitations include no ability to hang clothes. No shelf in shower.
I recommend staying in another area unless you are a very sound sleeper.

Super awesome service! Great rooms, really cozy and eco friendly products. Classy and modern interiors. Don’t be weary by the location or appearance outside, they have obviously done A LOT to bring these rooms to a high standard-​and have great service to match. Recommend staying here. Brand new everything-​ac/​heating too!

Just got back from my stay at the Inn at Temescal, It’s all you need for a great base camp in the East Bay. You might be intimidated about how the area looks but don’t let it make you nervous. If you don’t trust me go look at the walking score the area has. looks can be deceiving. As always use caution at night but this is true of anywhere.
The room is basic with a lovely photo scene on the wall of one of the areas landmarks. The bed is Comfy! Nice size tv and plenty of drawer space. it’s literally all you need as a base camp for your adventures (how much time do you really spend in your hotel room? *full disclosure we did hang out one day after a fun night and it was super comfy place to chill). There’s one thing I could say that they need. hooks in the bathroom for towels. but that’s all I can say. They provide you with FREE PARKING, FREE BIKE Rental, keurig machine (aka FREE COFFEE) the ice machine was broken but I’m pretty sure the inn’s manager went next door to the liquor store and bought us a bag of ice when we asked if there was any ice available (he is super sweet!) they genuinely want you to have a great stay!
