Elaine has been coloring my pesky gray roots for a few years now and I couldn’t be happier with her work. She takes time to make sure she knows exactly what I want. She has taught me that since hair changes, her color mixture must change also and her ability to find the correct «recipe» to create the color I want is incredible. Her intuition and communication skills are highly tuned. She is also a wonderful person and I really enjoy our time together. I highly recommend Elaine for color and cuts.

I’ve had about five haircuts with Elaine so far and couldn’t be happier. She is highly skilled and intuitive. She asks lots of really good questions like, «When was the last time you loved your hair?» and «How much time do you want to spend on your hair?». She listens, really listens, to your answers then asks more questions to flesh out what you want for your hair. And then she delivers! With each cut I have gotten exactly what I need, an easy-​to-​care-​for professional look that compliments my face and my hair itself. There’s nothing fancy about her shop. She’s a lovely human being with solid skills.

Elaine is amazing. I’ve been going to her for cut and color for 4 years and have been so happy every time. I first found her through a friend at work who had great hair. Another of our co-​workers went to her for the first time and her hair completely rocked after seeing Elaine. So I had to try her. She was great at listening to what I wanted and I walked out loving my hair! Now almost everyone in the office goes to Elaine, all ages, all hair types and they now all have great hair! Go to Elaine! She’s also so much fun to talk to, very kind, and her dog is a sweetie!

I’ve been getting my hair cut/​colored by Elaine since 1975… yes, we grew up together and that is 38 years!!!
Elaine has a special gift for hair coloring… I get blond foils. I’ve sent many friends to her, (including my daughter who came back each time she came home from grad school at Vanderbilt-​Tennessee), and they all still go to her! Repeat business is a very good sign.
Elaine will still be cutting/​coloring my hair when we’re in rocking chairs!

I’m delighted to have found Elaine and look forward to coming back to her. I just moved close to Mills College, and Elaine’s Image Spectrum is a pretty 10-​minute walk from the room I rent.
Elaine’s space is bright, spacious, and clean. Mona, a five-​year-​old pitbull mix rescued from the shelter, greeted me at the door and instantly I was won over. Elaine took a phone call while gentle Mona and I got to know each other. What a sweet and friendly pup.
Elaine listened to the reason for my visit. I now student teach at a local high school and wanted a cut that would make me look more professional, less like a high school senior. But I am honestly in love with my long hair and Elaine was a fan of it too. She took time out to show me ways for me to professionally style my long hair. She even gave me a few bobby pins to take home and get started with. So clear I was in the hands of a professional!
Still, Elaine’s just so personable and easy to chat with. And because she’s a long-​time community member, she was able to recommend local places for a new neighbor like me to check out, like House of Produce, the Redwood Rd plaza, and even neighborhood trails my car-​less self can access on foot.
Elaine is a gem. Her pup Mona is adorable. I am very happy with my hair cut and looking forward to playing around with the recommended professional hairstyles.

I’ve been getting my hair cut by Elaine for over 30 years. Time and again, she will give you a hair cut that looks great and stays looking great.
Having recently moved backed to the Bay from Chicago and having to try different stylists there, I have gained even more appreciation for her ability to not only give a good cut, but one that you don’t need to come back for in a couple of weeks to maintain. My wife has started going to her also, and has found that she not only can get great cuts there, but also incredible dye jobs (she recently got strips of her hair dyed with stripes which gives a really interesting appearance.)

My husband & I have been seeing Elaine since ’86 and we both love her dearly. She works wonders with our curly hair! We’ve since added our 3 sons to her. All 3 got their first haircuts with her and she was wonderful with them. I would never go to anyone else!

Elaine is the consummate professional– well trained and knowledgeable about all aspects of hair. She always takes time to discuss what your needs are and listens carefully. She is the only stylist who has been able to tame my ‘wings’.
The shop is well managed, clean, comfortable and inviting.
I cannot recommend Image Spectrum highly enough.
