House of Psalms

My father-​in-​law was lucky to be recently accepted by House of Psalms Assisted Living for Seniors. What distinguished this facility from other places is the owner and chief manager Lynn. She is a Christian who practices what she preaches. She is a loving and caring person, treating all residents as part of her family. She is also a great cook, emphasizing not just taste but also on nutrition and varieties. My father-​in-​law is a difficult person to live with because of his bad habits of sleeping during the day, eating and being active at night, avoiding showers, etc. Instead of giving up on him and let him continue his unhealthy way of living, Lynn and her staff put in tremendous effort to change his habits for the better.
Other residents there also told me many moving stories. One resident has gone through multiple surgeries. When he was recovering from his surgeries, Lynn checked on him at least three times every night just to make sure he was fine. Because of the exceptional care received and the warm support, the resident enjoyed a speedy and full recovery. Another resident has some mental issues with occasional anxiety outbursts. Other assisted living facilities simply ignored or neglected her. At House of Psalms, Lynn clamed her down by making her believe that she were her own daughter. It worked. I witnessed it several times. The resident’s own daughter, who lived overseas, wrote to express her gratitude.
Having visited several senior homes, my conclusion is that at the end of the day, it is the love and care of the caretakers that matter most. The majority of residents, because of their age and deteriorating mind and body, cannot take advantage of fancy recreational facilities or active programs. The «hardware» is more for impressing the relatives of the residents, making them feel better and guilt-​free for leaving their loved ones at senior homes. To the seniors, what counts is the feeling that they are truly at home when they living at an assisted living facility. The House of Psalms truly delivers a 5-​Star Service in this regard.
