I was in a pinch to see a new orthodontist on very short notice. I managed to make a same day appointment with Dr. Helm at a vey reasonable. Dr. Helm examined and readjusted my metal retainers. They feel great now and I’m really happy with the results. The office is small and unassuming. I will continue to see Dr. Helm for any ortho needs.

Best dentist ever and I’ve seen a lot of dentists trying to hear the best options for my treatment. Everyone in that office is extremely nice, competent, and professional. Dr. Helm is easy to talk with, engaging, and very knowledgeable. Seamless in every way (scheduling, payment, visits) since my first day visit for my orthodontic treatment options until recently for my 6-​month post-​braces visit. It’s been more than a year since my braces were off, and I am extremely satisfied with the result. I highly recommend Dr. Helm and his stuff for your orthodontic needs.

Dr. Helm and Staff are fantastic! I really appreciate the reminder phone calls, emails,…for someone like me who forgets appointments. All three of my children, ages now 24, 20 and 10 years old, have benefitted from braces, retainers and have beautiful smiles today as a result.
I appreciate the gourmet teas and coffees, water and good reads, plus the monthly guessing jars, pens and pencils make the place a treat for us to visit.

So far so good! I visted three orthodontists in Oakland and eventually settled on Dr. Helm. His office is low key and friendly. So far my eight year old daughter has had a good experience. I was pleasantly surprised when I found he is a preferred provider with Delta so the cost of phase one decreased by $ 500 (my insurance covered more). The three orthodonsts I visted all quoted me around $ 4000 for phase one. I think Dr. Helm was slightly less expensive then the other two by a couple of hundred dollars. I’ll let you know how how things go once phase one is complete.

We love Dr. Helm! He has been working with my teenager since he was 8 years old. My son had a tooth basically growing in the middle of his mouth, and Dr. Helm managed to create normal looking teeth and a normal alignment for him. If he can do that, he can do anything. He is very personable and professional.

If you want to have gaps in your teeth after years of braces and years of wearing your retainers every night then you should go to Dr. Helm. His staff is nice but their work is only average. Also dr. Helm is not at the Oakland office 5 days a week which is extremely inconvenient.

We love Dr. Helm’s down-​to-​earth attitude and appreciate the fact that he doesn’t try to push for more than our kids need. He’s patient and calm, answering any questions we have. His cheerful staff are really helpful too. So glad we found him!

Both my children go to Dr. Helm, he is very patient with his patients and their parents. Dr. Helm is competent and is the best ortho in our local area. He gets 5 stars from our family. His staff is friendly and very helpful.

I was an idiot and lost my freaking retainers of 5 years during a move. I took a bit too long on deciding whether I should have gotten them replaced or not. Based on the Unilocal reviews, I decided to check out Dr. Helm’s office. His staff were very professional and helpful, offering the cheapest and most effective route for my teeth. I ended up choosing the more expensive route (I guess I do value straight teeth after all) and it was totally worth every cent! His staff had estimated about 3 months’ worth of work to get the job minimally done. Dr. Helm could have schedule a few visits of tightening the newly founded retainers to straighten my teeth and move on but he had me come in for over 6 months to check up on my teeth without having me pay extra. I’m happy with my new retainers and I hope I don’t lose these!

Both my son and daughter had braces. Dr. Helm and his staff are excellent. We live in East Oakland, and have many Orthodontists much closer, but we happily make the trek to see Dr. Helm. The office staff is very friendly and easy to work with. My daughter has the most beautiful teeth and we give Dr Helm all the credit. My son’s braces are still on but look forward to having another set of beautiful straight teeth in the family.

Dr. Helm, Tara, Laila and Judy are slowly but surely turning my deep bite correction into Farrah Fawcett loveliness. They seem to be especially good with children which is one of the reason i love it so much, as i am a big baby. The doctor is always on time and they are accommodating with their office hours and have parking in the back of the building. Tara explained everything before i started the process and has helped me with the massive amounts of paperwork that goes along with orthodontia. Laila brushes my teeth almost every time i go there and i have to say, its almost like foreplay. I LOVE IT!

Dr. Helm saw my daughter even though her permanent retainer was installed by another orthodontist years ago. A couple brackets were loose (the glue had come off), and he reapplied the glue that day as the wires were bothering her. He charged a very small fee and his office staff was pleasant and efficient– on the phone and in person! An Dr. Helm was a very personable orthodontist! Thank you!

Dr. Helm is wonderful. He keeps working until you are satisfied and always gives an honest opinion. His staff keep everything running smoothly, and will even send email reminders about appointments. I have never waited more than 5 minutes, and it is easy to schedule early morning or afternoon appointments.

I always thought that people need to wear braces for 4 – 5 years and that’s why I never got them until I met Dr. Helm. He explained to me how braces work and that in 2 years I would be able to have healthier and straight teeth! Just in 3 months after I got my braces surprisingly I have already had much straighter teeth, thanks to Dr. Helm! I never knew it can work that well. Of course, I have to finish my 2 years to keep it that way and correct my bite. He always takes time for each patient and never rushes.
His staff, Leila, Tara and Judy, are amazing people and very dedicated to patients. It feels like one family is taking care of you!
His office is not high-​tech but always clean and the great health care you receive there is much more important. I strongly recommend him to do a «smile» job for you!

I highly recommend Dr. Helm’s office for all your orthodontic needs. I came here originally to get my braces over 10 years and because I stopped wearing my retainers, my teeth shifted a bit so I came back for a retainer for some adjustments. I recommended Dr. Helm to my sister who also got her braces from Dr. Helm. I’ve recommended him to several friends (okay, not all the people I associate with have crooked teeth).
He’s an expert and knows how to do the job right. (He told me that it would take 3 adjustments over 6 months to straighten my bottom row of teeth, and didn’t quit at 6 months when it was not just right yet. Without charging me more, he continued to make adjustments and scheduled me for future appointments.) He’s a perfectionist, which is what you want from someone you’re you’re paying thousands of dollars to work on your teeth. You can get an early 7:15AM appointment before school or work. They have their operations down to a science. They are efficient and you hardly have to wait past your appointment time. He loves the community and has been around for years for good reasons.
