Great! Movers were on time, quick, and friendly. They brought 6 men to the job, so everything went very quickly.

I was a little hesitant to hire movers because my last 3 experiences with hourly movers (family and friend moves) was that they moved incredibly slow, didn’t use the dolly once and even with the help of everyone around them (3 people) they still managed to drag the move on ALL DAY and ended up being double the quoted price and left no time to unpack after the move.
This was NOT the case with flat rate! The guys showed up at 9:20 (9 – 10 quoted arrival time), they scoped out my place and planned the most efficient way to get things onto the truck and what tools to use (I was on the second floor of my building) and they were so quick I didn’t have a moment to even offer help because I would have just been in there way. When we got to my new place which was not an easy location, with narrow stairs and a small windy path to my place, they unloaded everything by hand and even did that incredibly smoothly and efficiently, and we’re done by noon (less than 4 hour move including 45 minutes of drive time!), leaving me plenty of time to unpack and get settled. To top it off the movers were incredibly friendly, courteous and professional, I still have no idea how we had time to chitchat with them working so hard but we did. All my stuff made it to my new place in excellent condition. Couldn’t be happier with my move!

Flat Rate Moving Company is awesome! Getting a quote and a move date scheduled was super easy and efficient via email.
They were scheduled to arrive between 9−10am on a Monday morning and at 8:30am, they called to check in and confirm the best parking location. By 8:50am, they were at our place ready to go! The three movers were incredibly friendly, efficient, and treated all our stuff with great care.
We moved from a 1br apt on the 3^rd floor to a house and it took them 3 hours exactly. At our house, they placed everything where we wanted it and it all arrived in perfect condition.
I would definitely highly recommend using this company!

Love these guys. I have used them for my last 2 moves. They are friendly, strong, professional, fast and super careful. They wrapped all of my furniture in padded blankets and everything arrived in perfect condition. The move ended up costing less than the estimate (as it did last time). This team was amazing every step of the way — Reese, Pierre, Shamaer and Shane. It felt as if these guys were actually ‘our family’ helping us move. Personally, I’ve moved many times in my life (including across the country 2x) and they went way above the call of duty to help us feel comfortable by being precise, professional and genuinely enjoying their job — difficult to find these days and a pleasure to be on the receiving end.

Moving day can be sooo stressful, especially on a rainy day. Shane and his crew kept it easy going and friendly. They were punctual, hard working and professional, going the extra mile to make sure that I was happy. My plants did not suffer, they rebuilt my bed, and were happy to move a few other heavy item around to find the right spot in the new place. These guys did not stop (except for lunch) and remained cheerful all day. That is what you need on moving day. I was happy to write that check for the price that was very fair. I am very glad I hired Flat Rate Moving to move furniture from my house in Oakland to South Lake Tahoe. They were very professional and handled each piece of furniture with great care. There were a few pieces of furniture which are antiques and mean a lot to me because they had been in the family for a few generations and I was worried about them. But Reese and his colleague from Flat Rate Moving were very professional and wrapped them very carefully and handled them with great care.

These guys are great! I emailed them and the next day they responded with lots of great questions and a quote. They were super accommodating when I needed to change my scheduled move at no charge. Confirmed a few days before. The team showed up a few minutes early day of. Super nice guys, moved everything thoughtfully and quickly. We finished an hour earlier than I thought. All in all a wonderful experience.

We have used FRMC a couple of different times and they’re the best!
We used them on a personal move with a ton of stuff. Everyone was so polite and continuously asked what they could do to help more.
Also used them on a business move that had a lot of large furniture and items. They took great care of everything, even finishing well sooner than expected. And under their original estimate!
Can’t recommend these guys enough!

This is the second time we’ve used FRMC, and we’re glad we chose them again. They’re punctual, professional, and go above and beyond to ensure customer satisfaction.
They transported all of our indoor and outdoor plants and pots, and they even broke down and reassembled our pieces from ikea. Who does that nowadays?

Great guys, great company. We had a last min move, and I was able to call Shane the day before and get scheduled for a move… on a Saturday! The two gents sent out to help my wife and me were awesome – very punctual, very polite, very fast, and very hard-​working. I would recommend these guys to anyone.

It’s really disappointing when you extend trust to someone to do their job, and then they don’t deliver.
The crew came here with a toolbox that had almost no tools in it. Then one of the guys went off to find a hardware store, because the bed, that I told them ahead of time would be a hassle, required some tools they didn’t have on them. This took 30 minutes, then he came back and said he couldn’t find tools in the hardware store. Blamed that he doesn’t have more tools on him on the fact that he loses them all the time. That’s weird, because another moving service I previously used, and who I’ve moved with twice and left good Unilocal reviews for, have a full set of tools with them at all times. They charge $ 20 more per hour, but get the job done in half the time, because they’re focused and move as one unit.
Then they had to stop at a hardware store to buy tools on the way to the new apartment. To top it off, they somehow got water and bleach over my most important electronics.
I get the sense that they’re not passionate and focused about their jobs: the disinterested phone interactions, the emails with typos, and the low energy move that took six hours for just one room, it was just a mediocre experience all throughout. If I had rented a truck and took two friends, we could have done it just as well, and we’re just a bunch of amateurs.
Later on, Shane, the owner, called me and apologized, said that his crew should have done better, and that’s really nice of him… but he also refused to reimburse me for any damages and made more excuses.
I’ve heard a lot of excuses: He says that I should have packed my items into boxes and not bags. Well, I moved with another moving service, twice, with the same moving bags that Shane is complaining about. They didn’t break anything — and didn’t complain, either. It was based on this GOOD experience that i had with someone else, that I extended this trust to Shane’s crew, who turned out did not deserve it.
As I unpacked further, I saw that they wrecked some belongings that were irreplaceable and very expensive. They also left a bunch of trash here. I didn’t feel like calling back to talk to someone that I got nowhere with the last time.
I also searched around and saw that his moving company changed their name from «Genuine Moving» to «Flat Rate Moving», because their last Unilocal profile got so many bad reviews. Shane watches this Unilocal page like a hawk and flags reviews he doesn’t like with Unilocal.
I’m not sure what he’s rambling on about in his response below, claiming that I’m leaving reviews from other accounts, but I do know that there’s an unusual amount of positive reviews from fake looking accounts on this profile. Take a look for yourself and make your own decision.
Very very disappointing experience. It’s just a typical mediocre american company that thinks they are better than they really are. Can’t recommend.

Worst. Ever!
Long story, but the headlines include:
— missed every committed time /​date
— total non-​responsiveness to calls /​emails
— a poop smear on our bathroom mat that was then thrown out the window (yes, really)
— an irretrievably broken and beloved heirloom lamp
— total coercion (sign here or we can’t bring your stuff in)
— four phone calls, six emails and three months before the (totally lame) settlement check arrived

Super friendly, super punctual, super efficient. It was really easy and quick to get booked in to a time slot (although I was initially a little confused by the other name when I called, Genuine Moving – it’s ok, it all goes to the same place), and they were very accommodating on moving day when I needed to add a pick-​up at a second location.
Moving is stressful, and these guys made sure I had several fewer things to worry about.
I will be calling back if I ever have to move again!

A reminder for those of you who have not experienced it lately: Moving is a bitch.
Like many experiences in life, packing starts out all full of good intentions and high expectations. Initially, packing is an exercise in organization, everything in its proper box, labeled and wrapped just so. As the deadline for moving day approaches, you move belongings into portable containers less and less methodically until you find yourself grabbing large lawn-​and-​leaf garbage bags and recklessly throwing things in with thinly veiled panic. Why-​oh-​why do I have so many possessions?
Invariably, moving day arrives. It found me in mental disarray and a cold sweat and only partially packed. I had stopped packing in the early evening of the prior night when I realized that, due to my muddled and exhausted state, I was doing more harm than good. The plan was to resume packing in the wee hours of the morning; of course, that did not work out so well.
When Flat Rate Moving Company, namely Pierre, Edward and Ron, arrived a little ahead of schedule, I nervously asked if they ever entered clients’ homes only to find them not at all packed. Sure, they offered, happens all the time. I was somewhat prepared, so ahead of the curve, I reasoned to myself.
The events of the next three-​or-​so hours are a blur. The team efficiently and speedily moved items that were ready to go into the truck as I hastened to empty still-​full drawers and closets. Pierre, Edward and Ron were professional, patient, and pleasant throughout the inexpressibly stressful morning, making an unavoidable and burdensome event as easy as possible. Before I knew it, all of my belongings magically appeared in my new home, ready for move it.

The team from Flat Rate made our move painless. They balanced efficiency with gentility– and safely transported everything in our house in a few short hours.

Suspicious
I wanted to give these guys a try. The phone number listed, however, routed me to a different company — Genuine Moving — which according to Unilocal was closed. Another phone number listed on their photos yielded an answer from a woman who didn’t take the time to listen to my needs.

My wife and I hired Shawn and crew to move us from our 1-​bedroom apartment in the Grand lake neighborhood of Oakland to our first home in the Laurel District about 3 miles away. In short, the 3-​man crew were on time, polite, & very professional.
We had most of our belongings pre-​packed in boxes. Shane’s team carefully disassembled and wrapped our larger pieces (king size bed, dining table, and sectional) in padded blankets and plastic wrap. They gladly moved everything we asked them to move and left what we wanted to move ourselves (mostly loose items that we hadn’t put in boxes yet).
We had items located in our dwelling along with a basement storage unit and our garage. They packed and moved it all!
We will definitely be calling them for our next move and highly recommend them for yours.

Shane and co. moved me from North Oakland to Laurel a couple weeks ago, and I gotta say — it was a great experience start to finish.
They showed up when they said they would (10 minutes early in fact), were friendly, courteous and communicative. They handled our belongings with care and were at the same time incredibly efficient. The move took just over 3 hours, which kept the cost down — and also allowed me to catch Game 1 of Warriors-​Pels, boyeeeeee!
I’m EXTREMELY picky about professionalism, maybe unreasonably so, and this is one of the few service experiences that I was completely happy with.

We moved from northern California to southern and chose Shane and his crew because of the positive reviews we read on Unilocal.
We’re so glad we went with them! They were always on time, professional, and friendly. They stood by their quote. (Another professional moving company had quoted a similar rate, but with the caveat that they may have to unload from their traveling big truck onto a smaller truck to deliver our stuff to an apartment complex. That could add an addition $ 800+ and they wouldn’t know until they arrived.) Shane moves with a truck that can pull up to an apartment complex without all the reloading.
I really appreciated their friendly and professional manner. We have a lot of books and I know they’re a pain to move. They brought them all up to a second floor apartment and never complained.
