Never been to this winery, but I’ve had Enat’s honey wine at Ensarro’s last night and it was absolutely DELICIOUS! I don’t drink wine often because I can’t process alcohol, but the flavor was amazing! I’m so glad that the winery is local so I can go grab a bottle for myself when I need it!

You know how soothing Bee Balm can be to dried and chapped lips? Well that’s how Enat’s honey wine soothes your pallet after a fiery and spicey meal. It is especially good as an after dinner wine with such hot foods as Ethiopian, Thai or firey Szechwan. Its also delicious as a dessert wine. I suggest serving it slightly chilled with sliced tart green apples, an aromatic cheese like Blue or Gorgonzola and sesame crackers… I also know they have occasional tastings at their Oakland winery so call and see when you can come by and taste this nectar of the Gods!

A little wine lesson: Wine(made from grapes) = Napa/France/Italy/Spain, etc. Plum Wine = China Rice Wine = Japan Pineapple Wine = Hawaii Pruno = Prison Wine Lappish Hag’s Love Potion(Blueberry wine) = Finland Honey Wine = Ethiopia I’d never had Ethiopian honey wine until last night. Granted, I don’t know much about wine and I tend to drink whatever’s available(within reason). But honey wine reminds me of orange muscat — sweet & smooth, and actually pretty refreshing. I also absolutely love honey! Enat’s Honey wine is made from honey and hops, completely natural with no preservatives or sulfites… and it’s crafted in the City of Oakland. So yummy!

I confess… it may be completely psychological on my part that I’m such a huge fan of Enat’s honey wine, but I know my condition is a mental quirk with which many of us are afflicted. So perhaps I don’t really have to explain that when I say this is really the best Ethiopian honey wine I’ve had, I’m not speaking as a world class sommelier. I’m instead speaking as your average food nerd with above average love for honey wine and unending love for Oakland and all things made in Oakland, so honey wine made in Oakland will always be the best honey wine ever in my world. But really, Enat’s honey wine manages to capture and magnify the complexity of the flavor of honey, while making a wine that’s not at all syrupy or too sweet to enjoy with your dinner. I know I won’t be alone for long in raising my glass to that.
