Unprofessional and unresponsibility.
I was recommended this place by another tailor since she only do bridal suit. After check review and went to the place then I decided to tailor my wedding suit with them. I purchased brand new suit from Tedbaker. At Tedbaker, they have well meterials, fine cloths and great service. They don’t have in-​store tailor then I need to find one. After pick up today, I was very disappointed and can not beleive how this place done unprofessional job. I have an issue with vest jacket. They cut only front part and raise up shoulder. After attached front and back together. As you can see in pics that the line is not equal and they even did a tearing on fabric too. They should have cut on both front and back to make a shoulder balance in a center and length. Now my vest is not fit properly and look awkward on the front. Moreover, for mistake tearing shown below, the lady keep saying it happend before I gave to them. Folks, it’s noticable. It’s big and if you were a tailor you would noticed before. Also, I am a royalty customer at Tedbaker. I beleive they would not sell defect items. And if it is this big, you would noticed when you tried it on. That made me even angrier for their react after I found two big mistakes. I bought this for over 1, xxx and need real professional work on my wedding suit. If you want to leave your expensive cloths here, please becareful. Thier price are cheaper than in SF but not worth it.

I brought a $ 200 pair of jeans here to be fitted by height, so they had to re-​sew the bottom of my jeans. Originally, the jeans use yellow thread, which is the trademark of the brand. Doan did not match the yellow thread, instead using white thread. Now, this may not seem like a big deal, but it shows their lack of attention to detail, especially for upper-​tier luxury clothing. Why would you use a different color than the original?
This place is good if you shop at Walmart, but if you have something important or expensive to get done, I would take it elsewhere.

I’ve used this place for years for all types of alterations and have always been happy. I could care less what their personality is like. I don’t choose a tailor based on how friendly they are. They have you put the item on and pin it to what you want. Once I took them a dress I wanted to lengthen and they told me they didn’t have the fabric but to buy it and come back. It came out great. Another time they gave me a less costly option to slim a dress and I was happy with how it came out. I’m getting ready to visit them again soon to taper slacks and dart a few dresses. I would rather bring zippers, buttons etc than be charged a marked up rate so it works for me.

They do good work but are largely overpriced. Prices are also sort of arbitrary. Sometimes altering a dress is $ 35, the next one is $ 50 because ‘it’s a different dress’…

They have won my Tailoring business from now on. Price and turn around time where out of this world. They also altered some uniform shirts that 3 other tailors said they didn’t want to mess up. Very skilled.

Worst service ever. Somehow because city police tailors their uniforms here they treat people like garbage. Brought in pants to be hemmed and they left one leg longer than the other. Refused to fix and said to leave or else. They didnt charge me but told me they are the best even after we measured together and confirmed the error.

I’ve been coming here for all my alterations. They are friendly and the quality of work is pretty good. I’ve had dress pants and jeans hemmed. Had dresses taken in and jacket sleeves taken up. I trust them with my clothes and they usually get it done fast.
I’ve been happy with their work until I found out they raised the price. So now I feel that it is a little more than what I want to pay. Since I don’t live close, I am willing to find somewhere else to take my clothes. But I would recommend this place and would come here again. The parking is difficult since there’s only street parking and it is usually packed in this area since it is near downtown Oakland.

My new «go to» place to get my jeans shortened. Great service and great price. Much cheaper than getting the service at Bloomingdales. And its done on time.

I’ve returned here three or four times as I buy new pants to be hemmed. In total, I think they’ve hemmed a dozen pairs of pants for myself and the hubby. The ladies at Doan’s have an eye for getting them just the right length (you try them on, rather than you just guessing a length like at some other places). They ask for payment when you drop off the pants, and do push the «original cuff» thing, but they do a solid job and I keep going back.

I walked into Doan’s Tailor today. When asked if I needed help, I replied that I needed my measurements taken. The woman I spoke with said they are not normally a tailor and don’t know how to do that. I replied that the sign indicated they were a tailor. She said, «yeah, I know.»
Doan isn’t a tailor — the place is a low-​rent menswear store that half-​hazardly does some sewing alterations. They don’t even know how to take a man’s measurements.

Definitely shop around before coming here. I had a dress I needed altered for a wedding that they quoted me $ 40 for. I went a few blocks up to Ritz and got it done for $ 15.
To their credit, they told me they wanted $ 40 right when I walked in so I didn’t waste any time.

Incredibly nice people who do an amazing job for a very fair price. My wife and I have been going to them for years for all kinds of work (suits, dresses, etc) and we could not be happier. I have also purchased a dozen suits from Doan’s and they look terrific and have proved quite durable. After many experiences with lesser establishments, it is so nice to find such a wonderful place. An unequivocal 5 stars!

I dropped pants off earlier today to be hemmed. The woman competent, and I expect the hem to be satisfactory; however, I can’t say that I enjoyed my experience in a way promotes repeat business or the passing along of recommendations. The woman’s bedside manner came off to me as a bit brisk. At $ 8 and so close to Chinatown, I’m sure that I can find a much cheaper price. They want money up front for services that are yet to be performed. I was in a hurry, so I left the pants, but I doubt that I’ll be doing business with them again.
As for the wares in the store, they seemed nice enough.

I went in to have a button sewn back onto my shirt. Not sure what to expect or what they would charge, they immediately began sewing the button back on the shirt right at the front counter. When I pulled out my wallet to pay, I was told not to worry about it. The two women working were very kind and polite. I know it was just a button, so I cannot comment on their other work, but I left extremely happy.

I work right up the street from Doan, and I dropped off 2 pairs of jeans to get hemmed, their prices are right, they had my jeans ready when they said, and their work was superb! Can’t ask for anything more from a tailor

I first learned of Doan’s a few years back when I purchased some Kasils at Drift. (Which, btw, was such a sweet spot and is so missed). Having shelled out over $ 200 on jeans for the first time, I was more than a bit hesitant to leave my precious denim in someone else’s hands. There really was no need to worry, as they came back perfect.
This evening I found myself returning to Doan’s after a long hiatus (only reason being that I had been going to another shop that, at the time, was more conveniently located). The women working are as efficient and friendly as I remember, and in less than 48 hours will have my pants expertly hemmed for a mere $ 8.
Apparently, they validate parking for the lot on Washington and 8^th (?). I didn’t know about that until seeing the sign on their door when I was walking in, but will definitely take advantage of that on my return.

For some reason, I just assumed that Doan’s was just for men (probably because of all the men’s suits in the windows), so I didn’t go inside right away when I moved nearby. But after a few months of trying to find a good local tailor (I miss Nancy in SF!), I decided to pop in and see if they did women’s clothes too… and they do! I’m so glad I tried them out because so far, their work has been reliably good, the prices are more than fair, their service is pretty fast and the ladies inside that do the tailoring are very nice (I still miss my Nancy though!).
So I’d definitely recommend Doan’s, and it’s another reason I love my neighborhood!

I don’t understand the ‘original hem’ thing. In some cases you can tell that jeans have been hemmed, but at Doan, they hemmed my jeans for $ 8 and you can’t tell that they’ve been altered. They use the same rust-​colored stitching that is used on the hem of most jeans. Ready in about three days.
If you want the original hem BS, I think it’s $ 14.
