Debbie Does Cakes

This was my 2^nd time using Debbie for a birthday cake. I used her in 2010 for my fiancé’s (boyfriend at the time) 25^th birthday. I had a custom BMW 650 cake made for him which was absolutely beautiful and tasted sooo good. So when it came to my fiancé’s 30^th birthday I knew I had to contact her again. This time I wanted something a little easier (easier in my opinion lol.) I decided on a cake carved like a tuxedo with a little customization on the bowtie. The process of ordering was very simple and straightforward. I went with the red velvet this time (as opposed to vanilla the last time) since my fiancé’ loved red velvet and a cake for around 25 people. Everything went really smoothly with the delivery (was 5 – 10 minutes early) and I actually was not able to see the cake until the actual dinner. Let’s just say that EVERYONE was surprised it how good and real it looked. The cake looked absolutely amazing and the best part, the cake also TASTED really good. I am not sure how Debbie does it but she definitely is talented. She is definitely my go to person for any cake orders and I would definitely recommend her to anyone in need of a tasty custom cake.

I recently ordered a cake from Debbie Does Cakes for my wife’s 30^th birthday and I got exactly what I asked for, pure awesomeness! The photos posted by others here on Unilocal!are almost hard to believe because they look so real. The entire process with Debbie was quick, easy, and painless. I had asked for a minor time change the night before our scheduled delivery and Debbie set the right expectations with me, most likely not able to accommodate it (exactly what I expected asking the night before) but said she would try. I was pleasantly surprised when she emailed back saying the driver would try his best to get there early per my request. Sure enough, the driver came early! I would have missed my wife seeing the cake for the first time and her expression was priceless. That moment set the tone for the entire day and the cake blew everyone away. Thank you Debbie for doing what you do and really making her 30^th birthday a huge success!

I found Debbie here on Unilocal so I wanted to make sure I came back here for my review. The cake was not only beautiful but everyone said how good it was also. We ordered a red velvet with cream cheese filling. It was delivered on time between the one hour time frame. Debbie’s communication was great and the cake exceeded my expectations. If you require a cake with a lot of detail… Go to Debbie. At this point I’m convinced she can make anything.

My wife ordered a cake for my 40^th birthday party. I was completely blown by how amazing the cake looked but not only that is was a delicious red velvet cake to boot! I had little to do with the the ordering process but my wife informed me that it was professional and painless. Need a cake? Debbie DOES Cakes!

I reached out to Debbie based on the Unilocal reviews and I was not mislead. From the start Debbie was open and communicative. Everything is done online and via email, which is wonderful based on my crazy schedule. I started off wanting an elaborate crazy drum kit cake and she explained why that would not have been in my best interest so I sent her photos of my husband’s favorite snare drum. The cake was delivered on time by a great guy and it looked spectacular and was a hit at the party. It looked so realistic that people thought it was a real drum. And not only did it look good, but it was delicious to boot. I cannot recommend Debbie Does Cakes high enough.

I just had a birthday party for my son and I could not have been happier about my whole interaction with Debbie Does Cakes. I loved this cake! Besides my son (of course), it was the highlight of the day! I seriously can’t say enough about the professionalism and quality of this company. It was worth every penny. I hope that she stays in business so that I can purchase my birthday cakes from her every year. If you want an impressive cake at a price that makes sense for the level of quality, this is the place to go.

I emailed her a few pictures of what I wanted and she totally brought it to life. Her attention to detail is beyond compare. I got a personalized glock cake for my boyfriend, who is a former graphic designer and forever gun enthusiast, so I know he was extra appreciative of Debbie’s artwork. I was initially debating whether or not I should even spend that much money on a cake, but as soon as I saw it, I knew it was worth every penny. And it seriously tasted just as awesome as it looked, which is saying a lot because the cake looked ridiculously awesome!
I really don’t know what else to add that hasn’t already been mentioned in other reviews… so i’ll just let the picture do the talking :)

Deb is a freaking amazing artist and baker. I appreciate her talent, diligence, technique, and ambition.
We collaborated on the perfect cake for my mother’s surprise birthday party. I originally asked her for a custom cake of Robin Thicke’s likeness, since my mother loves his music. But we went with another art direction, which was themed after my mother being the headline in the Vallejo Times-​Herald. The realness of the cake design, not only fooled all the guests, but the deliciousness of the red velvet cake, cream cheese frosting, and the ABSOLUTE BEST fondant flavor made everyone climax… and that is not an exaggeration.
I was so grateful for Deb’s professional guidance when deciding the best design and she even delivered the cake from Oakland to Vallejo, which is 35 miles.

Reading other peoples reviews, I really don’t know what else to add on — everything everyone has said is true.
Debbie stole the show with the shoe cake she made for my husband’s birthday. I sent her 10 photos of the shoe I wanted to replicate. With complete professionalism, she replied promptly and put me at ease that the cake will be ready and delivered when I needed it. It was.
When I saw that cake, my mouth dropped. It looked better than the real shoe! That cake was the hit of the birthday party. I do have to add on, it tastes as good as it looks.
Debbie is professional, very nice and she charges a great price for the product.
For special occasion cakes, Debbie will be my cake maker go to.

Debbie Goard is a crazy talented artist, and she made us the most insanely beautiful, artful, and totally awesome cake i could ever have imagined! it really stole the show for our whole wedding.
we wanted a non-​traditional cake, to say the least. the design we landed on was a stack of our favorite books, complete with some bookends, and then a topper that featured us each sitting against a tree reading, with our dog between us on the grass and our cat sitting on one of the tree branches.
i found Debbie online and sent her an inquiry about making our cake, and we became fast friends. she was great to work with over email (i think that’s her preferred method of communication, which worked well for me), and she sent me a sketch of what she envisioned based on our initial conversations. it looked great to us so we moved forward with deciding on book titles for the cake and nailing down other small details.
Debbie is super detail oriented, and when we met in person to finalize the plan, she asked lots of questions to make sure she had every single base covered. i was ambivalent about whether i wanted the books to look realistic or just fun and whimsical, so i left the decision to Debbie. she decided to go the realistic route, so she downloaded actual pictures of each book’s cover from the internet, and then she printed the covers with edible ink. she then somehow transferred the ink onto the fondant, so the finished product included a stack of books that looked EXACTLY how they’d look if you saw them on a shelf in a bookstore.
the cake was simply ridiculously amazing. i don’t know what else to say. i have seen a bunch of her other work on her website and on Unilocal,so i had high expectations for the cake… but she WAY exceeded our expectations.
and let me not forget how delicious it tasted to boot! we opted for devil’s food cake with salted caramel, mocha, and chocolate ganache fillings. we have a bunch of pieces left over, and we’ll look forward to the treat of eating them one at a time over the next couple months.
in the end, we had to call a 5 minute warning before we cut the cake so that people could finish taking pictures of it. everyone was entirely blown away by it, and many people could not believe it was an actual cake and not a real stack of books! it was awesome.
we kept the topper and will do our best to preserve it forever. she asked for lots of pictures of us and of our pets, so the figures on the topper look pretty accurate. amazing.
the craziest thing is that, in researching various cake vendors that were recommended or rated highly on Unilocal,Debbie’s prices were less expensive than other bakers who did way more traditional cakes. so not only did we get the coolest wedding cake ever, we got it for less money than a much less interesting cake would have cost from a different vendor.
if i won the lottery tomorrow i’d quit my job and ask Debbie if she’d let me apprentice her. she is a fantastic artist, and i feel lucky to have been able to work with her to design our cake. it was unforgettable, and we could not have been happier with it. :)

I needed a Starbucks Cake in the shape of a cup for a surprise birthday party in San Francisco. I recevied quotes from 11 places, 10 bakeries in SF and Debbie Does Cakes in Oakland. Even including additional cupcakes and delivery Debbie was the cheapest (and best).
The Starbucks cake measured a whopping 1 foot tall and could easily have fed all 35 of my guests. Debbie was probably leaning toward the conservative side with portions and servings when telling me it was only suited for 20 people though.
When you’re in the market to purchase a custom made cake, your first priority is the aesthetics, second is taste. Fortunately you don’t have to sacrifice either with one of Debbie’s cakes. I requested Devil’s foodcake with salted caramel buttercream and
vanilla cupcakes with salted caramel frosting — both were delicious but if I only had to choose one it would be the devil’s foodcake. I would warn it borders on the VERY sweet side if you eat it with the fondant.
Debbie is just as sweet as her cakes, she was super accommodating to my needs by delivering the cake out of normal delivery hours. I would recommend contacting her as early as you can, her cakes are very labor intensive. I was told just the lid of the Stabucks cup took two weeks to perfect! Even the base the cake was on was painted fondant. Can you say attention to detail? It was a breeze setting everything up, all of it is done by email — communication and payment (Paypal).
I was lucky that Debbie made the cake I was looking for once before but if you check out her instagram
I have absolute confidence she can make anything look and taste amazing.

I had a Moët nector bottle cake created for my fiancé’s birthday last year and he absolutely loved it. The red velvet tasted amazing, you can see every detail and effort put into her work.
Check out the photos on Unilocal and her website to get an idea of what you want, the possibilities are endless. Place your order ahead of time since she does get busy.

Debbie was amazing. Not only did she help with I’n extreme short notice but the price was so right. The cake was way more amazing than I expected, it was moist and delicious as well!!!

Debbie Does Cakes made a cake for a hockey team party and it was amazing! She made our jersey and it was dead on. You should have seen the contours, stitching, and detail. She even made our off green color match to exactly the color of our team. After all that making it look great, it also tasted awesome too. Cake was moist and delicious with a delicious filling.
I highly recommend Debbie Does Cakes to everyone out there looking to get a custom (totally amazing, awesome, stellar and a whole bunch of other positive descriptors) cake. You will not be disappointed!

So, just in case you thought the title was misleading, let me reassure you that Debbie really does do cakes and she does them well! She just did a cake for my husband’s surprise bday crab boil. The cake looked so real that people tried to eat the sugar shrimp off of the pot :). My husband and all of the guests were impressed with the design and could not stop talking about how tasty the cake was.
I fully recommend Debbie if you want a cake that will make jaws drop.

My first time ordering a rather expensive cake… But for the price it was perfect!!! And actually not that bad considering… The cake looked beautiful :) and YES IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! I still have a little and I just don’t want to get rid of it yet. Maybe I’ll just put it in the freezer for next year.
I wanted a Forty Niners cake with Doritos for my boyfriends Dirty 30^th Surprise Birthday party and boy was this a master piece! It was so detail oriented, very creative and tasted sooooo good to top it all off! Will def send my family, friends and myself here to do business with Debs again and again! and again!
FYI she does not have an actual bakery you can just stop by and check out the cakes or do tastings, but I’m telling you the cake was really goo: D. Another tip… You can always pick up the cake instead of having someone drop it off which will save you I believe roughly $ 1.45 per mile.
Thanks Debbie for making such a spectacular cake… Although I wasn’t able to meet you, it made everything that night a lifetime of memories!!!

Love at first sight.
Yup no puns about taste or bites, because I truly fell in love at first sight. Her custom cake creation had my mind blown to the point it was blasted. The kind of cake that I wish we didn’t have to eat because of how awesome it was and i couldn’t get past it. For a sneaker head what could be better than a cake shaped like one of your J’s?

PS it was red velvet inside and it tasted delicious. on a side note it was kinda funny though because when we cut it and the red was inside — we just kept cracking jokes about eating the foot inside the shoe– but rest assured that it tasted great and nothing like a foot.

Debbie is amazing in her cake design. I am sure she gets a lot requests to make LV designs and her design nailed it perfectly for the cake for my wife’s birthday.
Prices are reasonable considering the time and effort needed to make her cake masterpieces.
Highly recommended. Really easy to work with via email, which is my preferred format anyways. Highly recommended.

A close friend of mine recently ordered a custom cake from Debbie for her boyfriend’s 27^th birthday. He is a massive Back to the Future Fan and has been known to obsess a little over ‘hover-​boards’ (google it).
A few emails were exchanged, pictures were sent, and the rest was left up to Debbie. She said she would deliver the cake at 1pm… and sure enough, the day of the party at 1pm sharp the cake had arrived!
And. It. Was. Rad.
SO INCREDIBLY RAD! The birthday boy was absolutely floored and beyond thrilled. The attention to detail in this cake was just amazing. Nothing was left out. Debbie even assembled it on the stand in such a way (propped up on pegs) that you could see UNDER the cake.
The Cake was so perfect that it almost felt like a shame to cut it up and eat it. But cut it up and eat it, we did. And it was delicious! The cake was big enough for like 30+ people to have a slice. Total cost including delivery (from Oakland to San Francisco) & the stand was $ 250.
