Coach Arnie Chua and Crossfit EGA are the best! Arnie has a really special combination of deep knowledge, incredible patience, and the belief that everyone, no matter the fitness level, is capable of athletic discipline. He always pushes you to do your best yet is also super-​smart about saying «not yet» when you would be better off developing your technique or skills before trying, e.g., to lift a heavier weight. And he gives the same level of careful attention to everyone in the gym, whether you are a novice, competitor, or anyone in-​between.
The programming is grouped into four tiers based on strength, skills, and experience — but you can also tailor a tiered workout to your own level if you have areas in your training that need attention. Not only is the programming always varied and interesting, it’s incredibly efficient as far as getting strong and fit go. Every workout combines mobility and strength work plus gymnastics and/​or track (running). You will work hard and sweat and this will make you happy :) No matter how busy I am, I *always* feel my time at EGA is well-​spent.
Besides bringing awesome skill and knowledge to his training, it’s also really obvious that Arnie is truly loves to see every box member make progress. Have a personal goal? He’ll help you accomplish it within the framework of the class programming. (And if you want one-​to-​one coaching, he offers this, too.) The community at Crossfit EGA is also super-​supportive, no matter your level. That warmth extends across the entire membership, including all the competitor-​level athletes who come to Arnie to train, who are all without exception really inspiring and humble.
Bonus: You can bring your kids to Crossfit EGA and still get a real workout, because there is a kids’ room separate from the training space but with a huge window so you can keep an eye on your little ones. (Oh, and it’s free!)
Double bonus: When Arnie programs longer runs into the workout, you get to run along the Alameda Bay Trail instead of a city street. Pretty water views + no cars!

This by far has been the best Crossfit box I have ever been to. Coach Arnie has an amazing program with the knowledge to help you reach your crossfit goals. He knows exactly how to get you to perform to your maximum potential. I would recommend this box to anyone looking to see results and become a part of the EGA family.

Highly recommend Crossfit EGA to any level crossfitter. The tiered programming allows each athlete the opportunity to get a great workout and focus on weaknesses. Arnie was my first coach when I was introduced to CrossFit 3 years ago during On– Ramp classes and I sincerely hope that he continues to be my coach throughout my CrossFit training. His coaching abilities are second-​to-​none whether you have never touched a piece of workout equipment or you’re a seasoned athlete. His attention to form and technique will impress the most experienced CrossFit athlete and will equally benefit those new to the sport.
Arnie has cultivated not just a box but a community that is welcoming, fun, and unintimidating yet somehow has managed to balance all of that with a butt kicking workout.

Crossfit EGA is by far the best way to get fit and then to achieve an elite level of fitness. I’ve never been one to push myself when working out alone, so this program is great. You just show up and Arnold, and the rest of the usual characters, provide all the motivation for you.

I love Crossfit EGA! The coaches are really amazing for both experienced crossfitters and brand new on rampers. With a membership at this gym you can also go the others in the «Crossfit Oakland Family” — there is one in Emeryville and one off 40^th and Broadway. I recently started here after going to one of the others– I just moved to the neighborhood. I’m so lucky to have such a great place to workout!

Coming to workout at CrossFit EGA is my favorite time of the day. Let me start out by saying there are a plethora of boxes out there these days calling themselves CrossFit. What makes CrossFit EGA special is Coach/​Owner Arnold Chua and his original tiered programming. The tiered programming makes this box perfect for all fitness levels, ranging from beginners trying CrossFit for the first time, to CrossFitters who have a couple of years of experience under their belt and to the more advanced athletes who want to train for local and regional CrossFit competitions.
Another huge reason to train at CrossFit EGA is the community. Everyone is on a first name basis, new members are always welcome and we all love to cheer each other on. You’re not judged by how advanced your fitness level is but encouraged to do your best. It’s a really fun environment to be in while getting fit at the same time. I actually plan my social calendar around CrossFit vs. chilling at a bar for happy hour (my friends claim they don’t know me anymore)!
So if you are looking for a lifestyle change where you can prioritize your health and ability to do a number of different exercises at an incredibly high intensity with top notch coaching, programming and awesome people, look no further!
