Chapel of the Chimes Oakland

If I could give this place 10 stars I would. They were amazing. My father passed away June 8^th and he we had nothing set up yet on how to proceed after his death. We knew he wanted cremation, but we did not know where to have this done. My husband checked Unilocal and google and we called a few places. Most places could not meet with us for several days and said we would not be able to do the cremation for 2 weeks. Chapel of the Chimes met with me, my brother and my mother the day after we called on June 10^th.
The facility was beautiful and the staff was kind, well informed and amazing. In the Hindu tradition the son needs to be there for the cremation to light the fire. My brother who lives on the East Coast was planning to leave Wednesday June 15^th and we really wanted to get things done ASAP.
Ribbian Mc Crew was able to get all the paper work done so that we could get the death certificate submitted for approval from the county by Monday June 13^th. She had my dad’s body moved to their facility the same day we met her and called us to let us know he was there. We were able to do the cremation on Tuesday June 14^th. It was done beautifully and my brother was able to be there and to open the cremation chamber which was so meaningful to all of us. They also arranged for my father’s ashes to be scattered in the bay near the GG Bridge and took care of getting all the certified death certificate copies for us.
I never had to worry about anything with them. They really took care of my dad and made my mother feel secure that he would be taken care of. I can’t say enough good things about this place. I would highly recommend them without any reservations.

Chapel of the Chimes is very beautiful, especially the architecture by Julia Morgan.
The Staff at the Chapel of the Chimes were very accommodating and respectful of our mother’s remains. Ms. Scott showed us around the property without an appointment and gave us prices and literature to assist us in making a decision on our mother’s final resting place. After deciding to go with Chapel of the Chimes; Mr. Patrick Feehan was knowledgeable, patient and very understanding to our needs. He was also on site during the entombment ensuring that everything was being handled properly and respectfully.

The only thing that’s been easy and relatively painless about making arrangements for my terminally ill mother was my experience with Chapel of the chimes. Gina, my family services counselor, was kind, patient and informative. In between my bouts of crying, while attempting to handle my mom’s cremation without knowing her final wishes, Gina managed to make me feel cared for and walked me through everything I needed down to the last detail. I strongly recommend using them, sooner rather than later, to plan your final arrangements or those of your loved ones.

I have long admired the beautiful architecture of Chapel of the Chimes. I am so glad that I finally visited, as I am thinking of my own last days and would like to have my remains in a niche there. I would give the place 5 stars except for 3 things:
1. The front entrance lobby area is not in keeping with the beautiful Julia Morgan light and architecture of the rest of the buildings. The dated window coverings seem so dire.
2. While walking through the Julia Morgan and Greene & Greene historical, enchanting rooms, the vista up and down the stairs — I was startled to see new, almost «portable» Niche «cases» right in the center of some of the historical rooms. They just wrecked the entire peaceful, beautiful ambiance. I sure hope Chapel of the Chimes can figure out how to move those to a more modern area, they are appalling. Julia Morgan would, well — turn in her grave.
3. It should be made very clear that the «Julia Morgan Chapel» (as nice as it is, though the carpet is worn and plants rather sad) is not designed by Julia Morgan. For history buffs like me, that makes a big difference.
I hope NorthStar (I think that is the company that owns Chapel of the Chimes) can see their way to honoring this Historic Landmark and doing the right thing. We who visit our loved ones there need to know that it will be kept the same and that love and care go into the decisions made about altering the Morgan design.

I was very impressed with the facilities and the service provided by the Chapel of the Chimes staff at a recent funeral for a family member. The chapel itself was beautiful and convenient. I’ve been to a lot of funerals in my 53 years, and the compassion for the mourners, professionalism and attentiveness to the details demonstrated by Todd, Cliff and Dominique were nothing less than top notch! I would highly recommend Chapel of the Chimes to anyone wanting empathetic and professional treatment while desiring to honor their loved one in a special way.

Allison Rodman is wonderful — extremely kind and informative. She answered all of our questions and made sure we were comfortable. Beautiful and peaceful setting and warm and supportive help.

We recently had a memorial service for both my grandmother Julia Hayes and my aunt Judith Hanscom. I would like to thank Jacqueline Woodward and Matt Farvall for their professional, compassionate and helpful assistance. It made our experience easier. Jacqueline helped with difficult decisions. Matt stopped what he was doing and showed us where our family would be placed. He gave us a little background on the building and it’s history. They are top rate employees who we hope will have a long career at the chapel.

Chapel of the Chimes Oakland is one of the nicest funeral homes I have ever seen. The facilities are clean and well maintained. I live in the area and enjoy walking around the mausoleum. One day
I decided to go to the front desk and see if I could get a tour. I was greeted by Jack and Belinda and both were very helpful and friendly. I could tell that they worked in the right industry as both ladies were very caring and easy to speak with. Jack gave me a pamphlet and a quick tour of the building. It was so nice to learn about the history and the types of services they offer. I recommend for any families looking for a great funeral home to use Chapel of the Chimes Oakland. The staff are professional and friendly and the funeral home/​mausoleum is one of the nicest in California.

I’m happy to provide a review. We sought Chapel of the Chimes for our beloved father funeral services, which was recently held on 11÷19÷25. We wanted to celebrate his & mother’s lives. Yeah, our mom passed a month before & we were dissatisfied w/​unnamed mortuary on Piedmont Ave.
With comparison, we were very satisfied with the service provided by Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. Services went as planned & were very on schedule. We had plenty of time to do our tradition ceremony and the staffs did not rush us at all. Services were superior, even my guests noticed. Mr. Edward Chan was excellent. He knew exactly what to do during the tradition service & did everything that the family was expecting & more than what the family was expecting.
I was especially happy that my siblings & I were able to do the blanket ceremony. This was something that I regret I didn’t do for our mom. The staffs were supportive toward our family wishes.
We were so glad we sought Chapel of the Chimes to provide ceremony service for our father. Our experience with their team was excellent.
Ian Ho, Family Services Consultant was awesome. He had a great deal knowledge of Chinese tradition. He shared his knowledge & provided advice so that we could have the best service for our father.
Ian is very attentive. We gave a photo of our parents & requested to photoshop (to remove) the flowers. Before we got home, he had already fulfilled our request. Not only he was quick getting thing done, the final product was excellent. Our family was super happy w/​the result. Kudos to Chapel of the Chimes for hiring such a talented gentleman.
We also want to thank Crae Horse for assisting us in the planning & Elliot for taking care our needs. Last but not least, Kelly for her persistence calls to MD to get the permit.

I visited Chapel of the Chimes for the first time on Halloween this year. I came out to Piedmont and saw the sign for movies and coffee. I walked around and was greeted by Jack, who was very cheerful and kind. I stayed to watch a movie, what a great idea to show films in the beautiful chapel. Will be visiting again!

I’ve been visiting Chapel for many years and Kelly has always been helpful. Most recently, we visited on Halloween and she was pleasant and informative as usual. Love the movies!

I am delighted to have the opportunity to write a review about Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland. I attended a memorial service for a co-​worker several years ago and was very impressed with the architectural intricacies of the Chapel and the professionalism of the staff. As a result of attending that service, I later met with Sophie Aretta, Family Service Counselor, to learn more about the services they offered. Sophie is an exceptional professional, extremely knowledgeable, and genuinely personable and caring. When I met her last year, she gave me a great tour of the facility helped me with pre-​planning for our own family wishes, and we continue to be in touch frequently.
Now that my husband has recently passed away, I met not only with Sophie but also with Michael Ring, Funeral Arranger. They were both knowledgeable and yet very patient and thoughtful to go above and beyond in answering any questions including re-​touring certain parts of the facility. I look forward to having my husband’s service there and I would highly recommend both Sophie and Michael without hesitation.

We’ve driven by Chapel of the Chimes many times but never stopped in to check it out, we did and ran into Jack who was so helpful to walk us through the different parts of the property and show us the mausoleum and Chapels.

I can’t say enough about the staff of Chapel of the Chimes. I found them on Unilocal when my brother passed away suddenly. Crae was professional, efficient and beyond everything else caring and compassionate during this very difficult time. He took care of everything and made the whole process bearable. We weren’t intending on having a formal memorial service, but after having toured the chapels and the facilities our decision was easily made. Ribbian facilitated the service and it exceeded all of our expectations. I never expected that my sisters and I would have to plan my brother’s funeral/​memorial service but given that it fell to us, Chapel of the Chimes was truly a God-​send.

If it is appropriate for me to say that I am happy to have met the staff at Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA, then let the world know that I am happy! Crae and Todd were, under the circumstances of the passing of my grandmother Clara Rodgers, the best two men in my life during that horrible week of laying her to rest. From planning to repast they were extraordinarily helpful and caring. My mother and her siblings didn’t have to worry about a thing because those two were on it, taking care of their every need, as attentive as if it were their own family member. The services that they provided were of a personal nature and I would recommend them to anyone.

Chapel of the Chimes is indeed a beautiful place for a funeral or memorial service for the dearly departed ones. It is so pristine, quiet and serene.
I arrived about 20 minutes late for a funeral service for my sister’s mother-​in-​law this past Monday. Not knowing where to go, I asked one of the ladies at the front desk. She was helpful and guided me in the right direction. Her fellow employees were very professional, kind, respectful and understanding.
Despite a bit of sadness, I felt uplifted, and in my heart, an inner peace and comfort at this chapel. I can only rejoice that my sister’s 100 year old mother-​in-​law has gone home to be with her late husband. (Peace be still.)
