The Cantare Chorale, our symphonic choir of over 100 auditioned voices, remains committed to bringing the highest musical standards to its performances, associating with the finest instrumentalists from Bay Area orchestras, and featuring nationally acclaimed vocal soloists. Debuting in April 1999 with stunning performances of Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, the Chorale is now the première choral ensemble of its size in the East Bay.
The Chamber Ensemble, founded in 1987, is the original choral ensemble of Cantare Con Vivo. Beginning with 24 singers, it expanded to 40 singers by Fall 1989 for a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Vespers. Ten years later, when Cantare Con Vivo reorganized forming a symphonic chorale and a music outreach program for youth, this original choir returned to 24 singers and renamed the Chamber Ensemble.
Today the Chamber Ensemble exemplifies Cantare’s rigorous standard of high musicianship. These singers perform a stunning variety of sacred and secular choral works
History
Established in 1987.
In 1987, Artistic Director David Morales founded Cantare Con Vivo (To Sing With Life) as a non-profit, tax-exempt music organization. From its inception, the 24-singer mixed choral ensemble has provided choral music with an uncompromising commitment to excellence for its singers and listeners. In 1989 they expanded to 40 singers and remained as such for a decade, until February 1999, when Cantare reorganized, forming three distinct wings to its program: Cantare Chorale (100 voices), Chamber Ensemble (24 voices), and a Music Education and Outreach Program for children in Oakland’s urban center currently serving 2000 students each week.
