Absolutely, one of the best bakers in the Bay Area.
I had a vision and Marla made it a reality. Not only was it beautiful, the taste was way beyond my expectation. Actually, I believe my cake should be on a cover of a magazine. My photographer stated, «I’ve never photographed a cake as beautiful, as this cake».
Great to work with and omg the taste testing… aMAZing! However, I will order the lemon curd again!

If you are looking for someone to do a cake for any celebration (wedding, birthday, retirement, etc.), look no further than Marla! We had her do the cake for our wedding in August and she did an amazing job! During the consultation/​initial meeting, she struck me as very delightful, easy to work with, and very experienced. The different flavors of cake and icing were absolutely delectable! She definitely achieved the vision that my husband and I (three tier cake with buttercream frosting and a waterfall of flowers down the side) and I was extremely pleased with the presentation. I will definitely reach out to Marla again for all my future events!

We had their cakes at a wedding recently and they were awesome.
Fluffy cake and dense filling… yum! The cake reminded me of cupcakes. So good! Executed very well.
We had all three flavors, chocolate salted caramel, chocolate mocha and spiced mocha. Our favorite had to be the chocolate salted caramel… yummy chocolate cake with salted caramel… Will definitely be looking into getting their cakes for a special occasion!

Marla made three satellite cakes for our wedding party on Saturday and they were incredible. It was a super hot day, triple digits, and all the cakes withstood the heat no problem. She was really wonderful to work with leading up to the day, very knowledgable and attentive to our concerns and requests. We wanted very simple decorations, just a plain gold band around each cake which we had planned to decorate with specially made chocolate miniatures. Unfortunately, the chocolate figures fell through with the other vendor, and Marla just made do with leftover flower centerpieces from the previous evening. She was so resourceful and adapted to our situation with perfect ease. I highly recommend her cakes and service!

I will really like to thank Ms. Marla for making my 25^th birthday. I knew she was the right choice the first time I have spoken with her. She was polite, super sweet, and professional. I explained to her my cake design ideas and she was very understanding and open to my ideas. She knew exactly how I wanted my cake and did not have a problem with me placing my order a week in a half before my big day. What a life saver. What also caught my attention is that when I first met Marla in person, her kitchen was squeaky clean. SUPER PLUS! It was organized and very welcoming. The sample tasting was so much fun and full of sweets. She even brought her creativity and bubbly personality to the appointment which really calmed my nerves and made me relax. As I arrived for pickup day, WOW is all I can say. She made me feel like a little girl. Lol. I was so happy and and my cake came out just how I imagined. Even my guests couldn’t believe it. I felt like my cake was getting its paparazzi on. The cake was soo delicious and beautiful. Thank you Ms. Marla again and I really enjoyed my cake!!! All smiles.

When my husband and I were looking for a baker to make our wedding cake, we decided to try three different bakers including Marla. She was actually the last of the three and she definitely made an impression right off the bat when we had our cake tasting. She’s very bubbly and easy to talk to. She had a huge collections of her portfolio but we sort of had our idea about how we wanted our cake so she was on board with that. Marla listened to our vision and she was able to bring that to life. I like that she immediately had a picture in her head on how she would make it.
We really liked her personality and when we tasted her samples, we were just blown away! She was super easy to work with and our cake was very impressive! It was everything we thought of and more. We wanted to mimic the design on my dress with a touch of small boxing gloves scattered randomly at the bottom for my boxer husband. She was able to execute it and our guests were raving about how good the cake was. Big thank you to Marla for contributing to my perfect wedding day!

Marla was amazing. Cannot recommend enough.
Her tasting was incredibly well crafted, featured fresh cake (unlike all the other tastings), and had a wide array to choose from (also, unlike the others). She made us feel welcome and had many books with a wide variety of styles to choose from.
And the cake? I’m not a cake person, but Marla’s cakes were subtly sweet and packed with flavors. Light frostings and bright colors made for some amazing combinations. We went with three different flavors because we couldn’t decide. We had a Berry and Cream cake (and ordered an extra half sheet, it was that good), a Tiramisu, and a gluten-​free Mocha Spice. From what the gluten free folks at our wedding, it sounds like it was one of the best cakes they’d ever had.
We wanted simple decorations so we could add our own toppers, and Marla was more than happy to oblige us. She delivered on time and was available for us dropping off the stands a few days later.

Marla really came through for us. Roughly two weeks before my wedding, we had no cake plans at all. We found a few designs online that looked good and chose one. I called Marla and she scheduled a consultation on very short notice. I showed her the design I liked and she gave me a few options for the cake type, filling, frosting, size, etc. Because of the short notice, the samples she was able to offer at the consultation weren’t exactly what I was looking for, but she listened to what I wanted and I left everything in her hands. I left just hoping it would all work out… and it absolutely did. She nailed it. The cake was delicious and beautiful, not just by my estimation, but also according to our guests. It was also solidly constructed, which matters when you’ve got to cut the first piece from the second tier in front of a bunch of guests. Oh, and the price was totally reasonable, especially considering the quality of the end product. Thank you Marla!

This is a belated review for our August 17, 2013 wedding! Dawn and I were extremely happy with Marla’s work. We got a variety of flavors of cupcakes, decorated with peacock feathers (faux, edible) per the theme of our wedding, as well as a small cake for my bride and I to slice (and take some home for the freezer). The cake and cupcakes were as great as we hoped and were a great value. They were also devoured quickly! We really enjoyed working with Marla, and the sampling & design process was fun and helped us pick exactly what we wanted. Marla is talented, creative, a great baker, and easy to work with. Highly recommended!

Marla is hands down THE BEST. My husband and i got married at a venue that recommended Marla for our wedding cake. We chose a red velvet cake for 1 of the 3 tiers and the 2 top tiers were a milk chocolate cake and the filling was milk chocolate with raspberries. It was an absolutely amazing cake. I liked it so much that I requested a piece to go for later on that night. All of our guests were laughing at me they thought I might be occupied with other things that night… But all I really wanted was a piece of cake. Lol.
But seriously, when we went to the tasting Marla supplied us with several different cakes and several different fillings/​frostings for the cakes. Each one were different flavors fillings and different flavors of cakes. When we chose one that was a bittersweet chocolate and asked for her to change to milk chocolate instead she had absolutely no problem. It came out amazing on our wedding day. The cake was to die for.
Marla is very personable and answered her phone every time we called. One time when we visited her office she let us snack on some cookies that she had made for her brother. I swear that one day I will order a bunch of those cookies! They were short bread and they had some sort of strawberry jam or raspberry jam in the center so good even considered giving them away for wedding favors.
She went above and beyond for us in every way possible. I have no doubt that Marla will make you happy if you choose her for any cake.
Thank you Marla! I can’t wait for the one-​year anniversary. That cake is waiting for me in the freezer :-)

Marla made the cupcakes for our wedding and they were perfect. She really took the time to listen to our requests and made us feel super comfortable. She is an incredibly sweet and lovely businesswoman, and an amazing baker and cake designer. Nothing but good words to say about Marla! Thank you!

Marla made my daughters wedding cake and it not only tasted amazing, but was exactly what we had imagined. It was beautiful. She was such a pleasure to work with!
This was a 3 tier cake, (chocolate mocha, red velvet and lemon), and I knew we would have a lot of leftovers. But as I watched guests go back for seconds and thirds, not much was left for breakfast the next day!
I did not get to tast the red velvet as it went so fast. I am not a mocha person so I knew I wouldn’t be excited about that layer, but it was so good I had a second piece!!! And the lemon was fantastic.

I just had my birthday cake made by Marla. I had an idea and she executed it better than I could have ever imagined. My guests and I will be talking about that dessert for years to come!

Marla made my daughter’s 2-​tiered, Red Velvet 18^th birthday cake with ONE day’s notice.
She was so very patient with me, since the concept (you are 18 now, here are the moving boxes, now start packing! lol) was a little unusual. She took my original idea, added her own spin on it and the end result was an AMAZING cake that everyone loved, laughed, and talked about! She took an incredibly stressful event and made it so much easier.
Design was adorable, cake tasted great, the price was very competitive, it held up well while traveling, and yes, I was flying down the road with it!
I will definitely be back for cakes for all of the major milestones in our lives! Thank you SOOO much Marla!

Marla did our September wedding cake. We met with her about 5 months before the reception while in the midst of interviewing about 4 different bakers. She was the sweetest, friendliest of them all. We met in her home in Oakland to taste and look at pictures of cakes (she had me at salted caramel chocolate cake)… we didn’t provide a whole lot of guidance in exactly what we wanted … but our wedding cake was beautiful (and when I finally got to taste some, absolutely delicious).
Her prices are middle of the road and we ended up ordering a 3 tier cake and an assortment of mini desserts for our dessert bar. Delivery /​set up and everything went off without a hitch. I would highly recommend Marla and look forward to my anniversary cake! Given the Chinese banquet style nature of our wedding (and the 25 tables we had to visit and drink at), suffice it to say that I didn’t get to eat much of my dinner food … so our family will be having a 1 year anniversary dinner of the exact same menu … and Marla will be providing the cake!

So, I looked to Unilocal for help with ordering desserts for an office birthday celebration. I had a modest budget, with just 3 requirements: 1) Cupcakes 2) Red Velvet Cake Flavor 3) Delivery
Cakes Made By M. E is owned and run by Marla E. The website showed all the beautiful creations, as Marla specializes in wedding cakes and pasties. I was excited to see such a variety of cake flavors from Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, Tiramisu, German Chocolate, Mocha Spice, Citrus, and Black Bottom (just to name a few).
Immediately, I phoned Marla, who was super helpful and one of the nicest and most cheerful vendors I’ve ever encountered. I gave her less than a week to create these cupcakes, and chose Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, and Mocha Spice. Additionally, I allowed her free reign with their designs (and only mentioned a «Spring/​Easter theme» and designated 6 special cupcakes for the birthday celebrants).
On the day of the party, Marla arrived early with the cupcakes, and I couldn’t have been more impressed. Look at how pretty these are, and the birthday cupcakes in that «special package»:


I was hopeful that they tasted as yummy as they looked. Thankfully, that was most definitely the case. The special birthday celebrants were so happy with them, as were my other colleagues. I fielded many questions as to where I ordered these beautiful and sweet creations. The Red Velvet aficionados were impressed with its flavor, frosting, and moistness of the cake. Even the non-​sweet tooths (Shocking, isn’t it? But yes, they do exist) raved about the Mocha Spice and Carrot Cake. A few non-​carrot cake eaters complimented how tasty the cake was with pieces of carrots, raisins, and nuts.
Of course, being the Super Sweet Tooth, I performed Quality Control and tried all 3 flavors. :) I wholeheartedly agree with my colleagues, as I was so impressed with how moist and absolutely delish the cupcakes were. I was in «the zone» upon eating the Red Velvet. A coworker poked fun at me as I didn’t respond to her questions until after finishing it. I was in my own ‘lil world,’ savoring every single bite, with lots of «Oh Mylantaing» going on.
Please support this local Mom and Pop business. Delish moist cakes that are wonderfully decorated by the bubbly, helpful, and efficient service of Marla. I promise that you will not be disappointed.

Definitely a Bay Area hidden gem.
We had the honor of trying some at a wedding we went to a few months back… and I can honestly say, that I have NEVER tried a cake like it.
The wedding had red velvet cupcakes and a cake. I didn’t get to try the cupcakes, but the cake had a cheesecake flavored thick filling inside. I couldn’t tell if there was cheesecake in between the red velvet? It was HEAVENLY.

Cakes Made By M.E. is cakes made by Marla Erojo, who runs her business out of the family home near the border of Berkeley and Oakland.
Though we’re not choosing CMBM as our cake vendor, she was definitely a top contender for the flavor of her goods. We fell in love with her berries and cream cake — the cream included marscapone cheese! Her flavors were simple and well-​executed, not too sweet nor overwrought (she offered some 9 – 10 flavors to sample). Her prices were *the* most reasonable out of all the bakers we tried.
Marla is also very sweet and has a ton of great photos of her designs…
