Blankspace is an artist-​run contemporary art gallery in Oakland, California with a focus on exhibiting emerging artists in a wide range of media. Blankspace seeks to foster solid relationships with artists, collectors, non-​profit spaces and other contemporary art galleries in the hopes of expanding the Bay Area arts community. In addition to visual art, Blankspace is host to a series of one-​night events catered to time-​based media such as music, film and video.

The gallery is comprised of a main exhibition space and a small front store space devoted to an eclectic mix of original artist-​made goods and serial pieces.

History

Established in 2006.

Blankspace will be celebrating it’s 3^rd anniversary this March. We are so excited! The gallery was born from our desire to showcase all of our talented artistic friends… we have been honored to be able to do just that and more…

We have had such a great experience working with such talented people and also feel so privileged to have met so many new, fantastic people along the way. We are looking forward to another great 3 years. Thanks to everybody past, present and future for your support.

We love the Bay Area arts community and hope that everyone reading this will go out and support Blankspace and all of the other great spaces that are working so hard to keep the arts active and thriving.

Meet the Business Owner

Kerri Johnson and Jason Byers B.

Business Owner

Co-​directors Jason Byers and Kerri Johnson have lived in the Bay Area since 1997. Jason received his MFA from UC Berkeley in 1999 and has exhibited at Linc Art, Southern Exposure, Refusalon and Lucky Tackle, Fleetwing Gallery and The Compound Gallery. Kerri received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003 and has exhibited her work at CSAW Gallery in Houston, Cricket Engine, Lucky Tackle, 21 Grand, David Cunningham Projects, Fleetwing Gallery and the Elevator Gallery in Toronto.
