this use to be a bad area but time has passed and now its totally different. very nice store. feels like home

I waited a second to write this review so that I could catch my breath…(inhales, holds breath inside for a moment, exhales deeply).

Friday, as I was stopping by this store to grab a bottled water on my way to visit an elderly couple off Edes Ave., there was a shooting… yes, shots fired, two people wounded, eventually dead.
This is really not what I want to happen while I am grabbing a bottle of water – ANYWHERE! I understand it is Oakland, and not the best part of Oakland. But wow, I live in Oakland and this is my first time to be this close to a murder scene – right next to a murder! WTH???
The guys who run this place, own this place, IDK, were really rude, rushing everyone and not being aware that many of us are not involved and are not accustomed to this type of activity. They treated everyone as if they were suspect and were yelling awaiting the OPD to arrive to handle the situation. Helicopters filled the sky above the store and tons of emergency vehicles approached. I was just trying to figure out how I was going to make it out of there.
I visit this elderly couple once a week, bringing them food and supplies. I am in the area often, and this was not my first trip to Scotty’s/Bayview Market. After this incident, I will not return, no matter how thirsty I am… EVER!
