Motor vehicle travel is the primary means of transportation in the United States, proving an unprecedented degree of mobility. Yet for all its advantages, deaths and injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for persons of every age from 6 to 27 years old (based on 1994 data). Traffic fatalities account for more than 90 percent of transportation-​related fatalities. In 1997, 41,967 people were killed in the estimated 6.8 million police-​reported motor vehicle traffic crashes, nearly 3.4 million people were injured. At this rate 1997, one person died every 13 minutes twenty-​four hours a day for 365 days. That would be equivalent to a 747 jumbo jet carrying the maximum number of passengers crashing every single day with no survivors. Although motor vehicle related crashes are caused by various circumstances, by far the leading cause (roughly 83%) is due to a human error.

History

Established in 1986.

Apex Driving School was born from the idea that «Safe Driving is No Accident» Founder and Principal Owner, Derrick P. Scott honed his skills as a professional driving instructor for 7 years with the California Driving School, an institution in the lore of American driving schools. The CDS’s training program for students and instructors was second to none. Apex incorporates the very best of that training, and through the years has retooled and refined that system to make learning easier, faster and even more complete. Safe driving is serious buisness, but learning needn’t be. We believe in making the process of learning a fun and positive learning experience. Although Apex Driving School has spawned many Bay Area driving schools, Apex stands alone is in its pursuit toward the science of learning to help you achieve optimum results. Meet the Business Owner

Derrick S.

Business Owner

Derrick’s journey as a traffic/​driver educator began in 1979 with The California Driving School. At that time, Derrick was studying human biology, chemistry, anatomy & physiology and holistic health principles of medicine at De Anza College in Cupertino. His keen interest to understand the human condition, helped to shape him as a driving teacher. In 1984, he was awarded the responsibility to provide assistance to person with disabilities on learning to drive, or to assess their functionality for driving. In June of 1986, Derrick founded Apex Driving School. Through the years Derrick has strived improve the training system by remaining a student of learning — both through independent study and through courses at CCSF. In 1995 he was certified as a clinical hypnotherapist through The Palo Alto School of Hypnotherapy. In 1999, Derrick received Examiner training from the California Department of Motor Vehicles in conjunction with a study to evaluate the safety of older drivers.
