The taste and quality are really good for its price and also the cashier is super nice.

It’s ok! But like most places in Chinatown, the floors are dirty and there are smokers outside. Do they over look the no smoking rules. There are kids around. The buns are good but the cakes … Why are there no sample ones to look at? The one in the picture, the happy birthday is not centered. Why are there always a different cashier. Cashiers cannot handle food! Or wash your hands please!

This place is a small bakery but it’s not a café at all. They have drip coffee and hot water for tea. But the tables outside are nice to sit in and enjoy the sun during lunch.

I had about two hours till my next class but was feeling kind of hungry and this little spot came up on Unilocal. It was only like a 5 – 6 minute walk that was totally worth it. Not the nicest place but food makes up for it. They have lots of great little super cheap snacks, coffee and sandwhiches! Ive gotten the mini pizza’s which are BOMB!!! Theyre about $ 1.50. Theyre sooo buttery and delish you feel almost guilty eating them. They also have those little hot dog buns which are super buttery and its 3 of them for like $ 1.25. They have mini cupcakes too for like .60 cents and plenty of other deserts! I love this spot and will tooooooootttttaaallllyy be returning for cheap, awesome, buttery snacks

The place I go to meet all my carbohydrate needs. Where else can you get a pork or chicken sandwich on croissant for $ 2 bucks! Such a deal. Alice café is such a great neighborhood spot. As your sitting there enjoying your purchase, kids are looking into the glass case to enjoy a sweet. Older people are enjoying tea as they read the paper. A real neighborhood gem.

Found this place while walking thru Oakland chinatown and tried this place for the first time For today, tried the chinese-style fried chicken sandwich with lettuce. The bun is a little bigger than the chicken but i don’t mind! The bread is freshly made and soft accompanied with a few pieces of lightly-fried(dark meat) chicken with piece of lettuce. Light lunch but satisfying! Don’t expect a Bakesale Betty Chicken sandwich but you could buy 4 of the Alice Street Bakery chicken sandwiches($ 1.75 each) for the cost of a BSB one! I’ll definitely come back to try the other offerings like egg tart, pineapple bun with custard and other fresh baked goodies. Staff at the counter are friendly and helpful!

Just because they have one of the best mini pork chop banh mi sandwiches I’ve ever had. Get like two of them, make sure you ask them to toast it for a bit and it’s such an inexpensive and filling lunch! Almost everything they have here is more or less of a dollar but BEWARE – Things are a hit and miss here. I’ve tried some things I thought I’d like and some things that I just can’t get enough of. Nice family-operated store but I wish they would serve fresher and wider range of bakery goods.

This is a pleasant place to hang out and grab a coffee and a pastry from their vast selection of affordable baked goods. The service is nice. They are friendly. I like that they have a lot of seating with clean tables. It’s a breath of fresh air from the old(and often times dirty) furniture seating at a lot of other places in the Chinatown area. Their baked goods look very appetizing and they are all very affordable. It’s quite easy to get carried away when you want to try them all and they are mostly under a buck. Their egg tarts are only $ 0.50 which is great. Sometimes they are really warm which makes it even more yummy! This place accepts credit card with a $ 5.00 minimum purchase. When you pay with cash, they don’t charge tax, but if you pay with card, they will charge tax. But it’s great having that as an option as opposed to being out of luck when you need some baked goods. I can’t speak too much to all of their pastries because there are many to choose from, but the ones I have tried so far such as the Mexican bread, egg tart, red bean cake, tuna bun, corn bun, sponge cake, and coconut bun, to name a few, they are all pretty good. Honestly, they don’t have anything too special that would make me run to this bakery immediately, but I really think this place is a jewel for having nice clean seating, cheap pastries, a nice atmosphere, wireless internet access, and a credit card payment option. Happy to see this place in the neighborhood. :D

A very nice, and inexpensive, bakery in Chinatown. They had a lot of interesting baked goods and the lady behind the counter was very nice. They do accept credit cards, but it’s a $ 5 minimum.

They have good egg tarts, paper sponge cakes, BBQ pork buns and cheesecake, and at cheap prices too! With a $ 1 cup of coffee, free wifi and clean tables, it’s a good place to chill in Chinatown when you are up for a snack and need a place to chill for a while. Big bonus points for having a clean bathroom as well!

Best baked BBQ pork buns I’ve ever had, hands down. This is a huge, hot and fresh, yummy bun with lots of airy, toasty bread, lots of moist seasoned meat, and no stringy or gristly bits. No chunks of carrot mixed in or something like that to make it cheaper to make. I was instantly hooked… and it’s only $ 0.75, shoot! The coconut bun and apple bun were big hits with our group as well. The lemon roll cake/jelly roll I tried was heavenly. Nice fluffy cake, flavorful lemon filling. It’s a perfect light afternoon tea or after-dinner snack. I can’t help imagining I should get some and take it home to top with fresh berries for dessert sometime… With some hot lemon tea. Mmm. Plain hot coffee and tea for low prices, no fancy coffee blender drinks or boba here, sadly. There’s a large, clean restroom which is unheard of in L.A. Chinatown… I felt rather lucky to have stumbled onto this café. Be forewarned that the large cakes here are Chinese style, with that butter-like frosting, and of course they are going to sell the oldest cake first. Take someone with you who speaks the language if you have a large or complicated order, it’s common sense. I did witness a customer trying to order large cakes with the young girls behind the counter. This customer had a lot of questions and special requests about what is inside the cake, what the ingredients were, etc. The young teenagers behind the counter did not know. They had to go get an older lady from the back finally to speak with the customer. The young kids are just there to cashier, just like any young kid would be in a small family-run business. Lol, don’t quiz them about the baking process like they’re Master Chef or something and then have the nerve to act surprised and miffed when a 12 year old says, «I don’t know.» From what I could see, these girls were trying their best to help, and the customer was acting very snotty and high-handed. Just buy the cake or don’t buy it! Do you really need a verbal rundown of every ingredient, Your Ladyship? Then mayyyybe you should get your cake done at a grocery store like Nob Hill, instead of hassling f.o.b. bakery cashiers in a bargain bakery and expecting the gold standard. Stick with the various buns and breads and have a nice cup of hot tea or black coffee and enjoy this spot for what it is, and you can’t go wrong!

A really cute local hangout with some really good pastries. Really well priced and good service. My daughters school is just a couple blocks away so this place is really convenient. Don’t use the wifi as its really fast right now :)

Best Cheese Cake. I purchased a cheese cake to bring to a dinner party. The host loves cheese cake, me not so much. Until now! Now, I know why it’s called cake, it was light and airy, just like cake!

I am set on purchasing a birthday cake from a local business for a big bash. Since there was a new bakery nearby, I thought I would try this one before making the final decision. I can tell you that it didn’t make the cut. I had a bad experience with the girls behind the counter and some of the pastries here. To sum it up, the girls who work here need more training. They didnt understand much English and they didnt know about the items i wanted to purchase. Here is my experience in detail : I wanted to try all their cakes sans chocolate and ended up with 2 slices of cake at 1.25 each; a coconut cake and a white cake(which i assumed had fruit in it). I asked if she could tell me what each of the cakes were that were displayed. Some cakes were labeled, and the cakes that were labeled, most were labeled in Chinese. I noticed some of the cakes were mislabeled too. The coconut cakes had a chocolate mouse cake label in front. I brought it to her attention and she didnt bother fixing it. The white cakes had a piece of glazed strawberry on top; strawberries that seemed like they were going bad because of the visible soft spots. I wanted the piece in the middle, which had a strawberry that looked like it was still good. One of the girls behind the counter does not understand what«middle» means! She grabbed each and every other one besides the one in the middle. It was frustrating! When i went home to try the cakes, they were tasteless! I felt like they missed an important ingredient, like SUGAR! the frosting was like plain whipped margarine, ECK!

Great place to eat. Clean, spacious, well lit, and clean bathrooms. Friendly owner Robert. Try their sandwiches and salads. Chicken caesar salad had warm chicken. Salmon salad had a substantial piece of warm salmon, cranberries and slivers of almonds.
