A1 Laundromat

The place is really a bleeping mess. BUT they have many very large and new machines. The employees are super helpful and friendly. My only gripe is they only have like 4 tables to fold on and it can get crowded/​tight. Big thumbs up for having a sink on among the wash machines!
They should clean it up bit before someone slips and sues, but as long as I’m staying in west oakland, this is my laundry mat.
The neighborhood is FINE, not scary at all, west oak has a bad rap.

Quite literally the best laundromat in the entire area! The machines are top notch and there is a ton of different sizes to choose from, the place is clean and has a large variety of soaps and other laundry products to choose from. Having gone to other laundromats in the area this is by far the cheapest and the most efficient one. Despite the day of the week, I have never had to wait at all to use a machine. Also, KFC or Micky Ds in the parking lot so you can munch on a burger n’ fries and watch TV while your clothes are cleaned. Yes, please, and thank you!

Nice people, not crowded, lots of laundry soap to choose from. A little dirty, but totally functional.

Best laundromat I’ve seen in a while. Tons of functional machines and friendly employees and patrons. My roommates and I did about 30 loads of laundry at the same time and never had to wait despite it being a Sunday. Also, McDonalds and KFC for mid-​laundry bad decisions.
Haven’t tried their dry cleaning.

Clean and nice. Yes, it’s across the street from Acorn village, but don’t let that deter you. Quarter operated, with new, oversize washers and dryers in addition to the normal size. It’s bright inside, and there is also laundry service if you just don’t have the time or inclination to do it yourself. Middle of a Friday was totally open. Studying time is in full effect.

Andrea is the bomb!
I’ve recently moved to Oakland due tons health condition to be close to a hospital in SF that specializes in my ailment. I’ve became disabled and it hasn’t been easy to accept nor adjust to my current limitations, nor to the pittance social security doles out as «living expenses». Even though I live a couple blocks away I had to take a taxi there. When I arrived I was having a bit of a hard time getting my laundry into to the place. Andrea (who works there BTW) immediately grabbed my stuff and started helping. She would let me do any of the work! At all! No matter how many times I tried to contribute. She separated, folded, damp dried and hung some of my nicer shirts… Then called a cab home for me, went outside to wait for them (she wouldn’t even let me go outside in the cold) When the cab driver got there she let him know what was up (they’re usually now too happy about going such a short distance) When he arrived she still would not let me help. She told me to get my ass back in the cab while she loaded the trunk. Earlier she kicked this guy out who was panhandling and bothering this young girl, and this guy was not some old drunk. He was still young and fit but she put him in check. He almost walked out with her shoe up his …
For rare unconventional customer service this place gets 7 stars… Plus free wifi, 2 big screens, clean restrooms and an assortment of laundry products (bleach, fabric softeners etc)
Glad I found this spot in my new hood, I won’t be dreading laundry day.
The taxi driver was in a whiny mood even though I tipped him.
I also gave him some midol so he can make it through his difficult evening ahead.

Do it yourself: This place is great! They have lots of nice machines in good condition and it’s clean. I normally go on the weekends and I’ve never had to wait to use a machine, although there are times when it’s busier than others.
Wash & Fold: Ok, so while I do think it’s a nice laundromat, I don’t love hanging out at the laundromat for hours at a time so I tried their wash and fold service today. I was using a place in San Francisco for the last nine months and Andrea at A1 did such a superior job I was in awe as I unpacked my clothes. She even paired my socks! I was totally jazzed about it. Pricing is very reasonable — I’ll definitely be going with this option in the future.
Dry Cleaning: their dry cleaning service does nice job and I haven’t had a problem. I’ve had skirts and sweaters washed there before and they even got a stain out of a fancy party dress last time. I’d recommend them.

I’ve been coming here every week for over 2 years to do my laundry. The area may be sketchy but this place is a safe and clean place to do laundry. I’ve never had any problems with their machines, though the prices are a touch high. I get everything washed within an hour and the folks are very nice.

This laundromat’s machines are always broken. I chose two identical washers side by side, I chose the same settings and put in the same amount of money, yet while one washer displayed and took the expected 30 minutes the other displayed and took 50 minutes, when I asked the attendant about it immediately after I started the washers and saw the problem she said don’t worry it will only take 30 minutes. She LIED it took the full 50 minutes. She said I’ll just put a note on it. There were notes on several other machines as well. I’ve used this place several times because its closest to my house but its always the same, awful.

Is everything I was expecting when I went here. I went late on a Tuesday night and the place was empty. There are two tvs to watch while waiting and the atmosphere was not bad.

I love this laundromat because they have very honest employees. I left my favorite jacket there this sunday and I was able to return the next day to find out it was still there.

Besides the high prices for even a regular load of laundry ($ 2.50) the place was clean and the machines worked good.

I’m giving this a five star rating because I had such a great experience here a few weeks ago when I dropped off my drycleaning. Service was pleasant, and the laundromat was clean and bright. My drycleaning came back perfect. And I love the front load washers! I’ll definitely be back.

I love this laundry. Its ALWAYS clean and well stocked with anything you might need such as dryer sheets.
The staff is very friendly and very considerate of everyone who marches thru the place. What impresses me is that there are no loiterers like in some of the other washhouses Ive been to in the nicer parts of Oakland. This helps ensure that my stuff doesnt walk off.
The machines are cleaned regularly throughout the day which is awesome.
I love theres TV n the facility and Mikkie Dees right next door.
The price is great, and you can drop in on your way to downtown oakland and fluff your blouse or shirt for 25 cents !!

I adore this laundromat. I’ve been going here for 2 years. It’s the cleanest place I’ve had the pleasure to go to, and the staff are really fine. I also really like that they are not locking the dryer lint traps, so I can go ahead and clean them out before I start my load… sweet, the first place I’ve had that ability to do it. There’s never been a LOT in the trap, but I know that cleaning it out before I do my own load will make the drying time faster.
One TV runs quirky cartoons late at night– while the other has bland shows on.
I swear, a bunch of folks seem to kind of dress up to go here… it can be a flirtatious time if you want to play that way.

There’s no better place to take care of all your laundry needs. A-​1 has it all: Many large washers and dryers (I’ve never had to wait for a machine), excellent drop-​off wash and fold service (a huge plus when I’m too busy to do the laundry myself), dry cleaning, alterations, and very reasonable prices. The location is also excellent and convenient to downtown Oakland, West Oakland BART, and Alameda, so it’s simple to take care of the wash or drop off/​pick up stuff for dry cleaning or wash and fold on my way to or from work.
Other big plusses for me are the plentiful free parking, free big screen TVs, and free Wi-​Fi. It’s nice to pull in and park easily, then be able to relax or get some work done while I wait for the wash. A-​1 is very clean and comfortable, with friendly, helpful attendants.
The new owners of this spot are a lovely couple who are very involved in their business and take pride in excellent customer service and in being a part of the West Oakland retail community.

Ok, I’m bumping my review up 2 stars for several really good reasons.
1. This is definitely the place to go if you have a really large load or need to wash comforters. They have washers that can hold up the 5 loads, and if you’re actually doing that much laundry, it will actually save you money by sticking it all in one tub — $ 6.75 for a wash vs. $ 2.25 per 1 or 2 load washers.
2. You can dry a comforter and sheets in 30 minutes on high. I used to go to a place in Piedmont where it took 50 minutes sometimes. This time difference is usually attributed, I’m told, to both how new the dryers are and how often they’re cleaned.
3. They offer wash and fold as well as dry-​cleaning, so a staff member is always on-​hand here if something else has a meltdown.
4. There are 2 flatscreen TVs… with cable.
5. They have computers with internet access available, too.
Really, it’s somewhere between 4 and 5 stars simply because of the aforementioned locking of the doors at 8:30, but the more I get to know the neighborhood, the more I understand the reasoning behind this (the only businesses that stay open in this shopping center after that time are McDonald’s, KFC, and Pizza Love).
