I was here on Friday, October 7, for the first time, and it just so happened to be the grand opening(I’m guessing this place is under new management after looking at the past reviews). There weren’t any menus and the server didn’t really know what items were on the menu since she was there to just help for the night. That’s cool, but it’s new and I really didn’t mind. My friend and I asked her about the drinks and she wasn’t too sure about those either. She did tell us that they had a drink called Voodoo, which had smoke coming out of it. We both order it and it was actually pretty good. And the smoke added a nice touch. We ordered the plantains to eat. It was kind of dinky. It was 5 little pieces of plantain and a big bowl of black beans. It was tasty, but we didn’t feel it was worth the price. Make the order with 6 pieces or at least make them bigger. Since I haven’t been here since the opening, I’m not sure if they have improved on any of this or at least have menus. I may check this place out again, but I’ll go off of other people’s reviews.

As much as I wanted to like 2022. I didn’t. I loved the concept, loved the décor, but was lacking in flavor in all aspects. Chicken Lollipops were overcooked and dry in the center. Calamari was tough and overcooked. Drinks were strong and not well mixed. Mistakes on bill which slowed our trip down. Not exactly somewhere I wanted to take my birthday person again.

Tiny little bar that is not a dive with super cool staff. They have a tiny stoop with ledge for drinks. You can pull high chairs outside and sip drinks while the sunsets. Drinks are average priced and it is a full bar. We had our dog with us and planned to sit outside. When I went inside to get drinks, they welcome our pooch inside and said they have a don’t ask policy on dogs. We felt really welcome and took a corner. seat in the front. I like that this place is not everyone’s first choice. It makes it a lot more more chill.

I’m mixed on this place. For YEARS all you people have been telling to come here to try their FANTASTIC Green Chile Hamburger… Well, I finally went to try it-all I will say is TRUEBURGER is STILL the undisputed hamburger king in the Oakland Uptown. The burger was quite bland considering what was advertised. I was also a little miffed that you ONLY get the burger. Fries are extra… So that put the $ 8.50 price for the burger WAY out of proportion. The food was simply just two steps removed from microwave food… As a bar-and lounge-I think this place is actually quite the hole in the wall you would like. The food service stinks(it took 45 minutes to get our food, AFTER a 10 – 15 minute for someone to get our order). I mean, how do you mess up a soda order? lol There are better spots in the Uptown to eat, but I think on one those quant nights, you might not mind hanging here to chill for a few minutes with your peeps. Just don’t eat the food…

There is so much potential here! We were looking for just a bar. So in that regard, this place wins. However, I don’t see it hanging around for very long in it’s current state. Also, I found the drinks to be pretty expensive. 2 pints of beer, jack & coke and amaretto sour, $ 25 before any tip. I won’t do the math, but it doesn’t look that good. The dj is fine. Hopefully things pick up for him. The artwork, well, it is Oakland, there’s artwork everywhere so that wasn’t too strange. Parking is not bad because it’s a little bit up from the busy area. I’m not sure about the kitchen because it was closed when we got there, but there are some people grilling outside. It’s your only alternative for $ 3 hot dogs. Have to try everything once, right? Anyway, 2 stars for real, 3 stars for what they can turn into.

Went with a group on a Thursday night. The place is pretty cool as a bar; projection TV showing old kung fu movies, a live DJ, and ‘interesting’ artwork. As far food goes… it was pretty bad. Just plain bad… even after a few beers. Maybe the cook had a bad night, I don’t really know, I won’t take the time to go back and find out. The staff was friendly, though.

Simply awful. Went with a group based on the positive Unilocal of the chicken items. I wonder if there was a completely different chef there tonight? The chicken and waffle«sandwich» just tasted BAD. We were all extremely disappointed. Normally I would not be glad the portion size was so small for the price — but I just didn’t want to eat any more of those waffles in oil and sorry chicken! The best thing I can say is that the fries were average. Would NOT go back. Even if I were starving.

All these bars with numbers for names are getting me confused. 389, 355, 2022… it’s all too much for a mathematically challenged person like myself. We actually thought we were going to a different numbered bar when we realized it was actually 2022 that we were in front of. Inside it was a lot different than I’d imagined — I pictured a dark, loungey space with loud music and a disco ball. What I got was a well-lit spot with a football game being projected onto one wall, with lots of tables and chairs and a really adorable older couple out on a date and drinking tea in the front. Cute! The bar didn’t seem particularly well-stocked, and the food was just«enh,» but the service was very friendly and kind. If I were to put my finger on a bunch of random numbers and find myself at 2022 again, I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Actually I give them a 4.25 — 4.5 Stars but opted to give them 5 stars because I truly believe they deserve the positive advertising a 5 star review comes with. In fact, all that keeps them from truly being a 5 star establishment in my book is they often are only about half full or less. I find the fact that they aren’t busier to be reaally strange because I think they are great. The lounge has a killer happy. Hour with $ 5 munchies and drinks. The bartenders make tasty mojitos, messy lemon drops(I think that’s what they’re called), perfectly bruised martinis(a must to get 5 stars from me!), and other fun(often fruity) concoctions! All drinks are made with a smile, a bit of humor, just the right amount of ego, charm, and class. And they can hold an intelligent conversation too! ;-) When there’s a DJ so far they’ve been good, choosin music perfectly suited to the venue, that nights crowd, and Oakland in general. 2022 is a cool, unique spot with a LOT of potential– most of it unrecognized to date. Def worth a try next time you’re in town to see a show at the Fox, or just in the neighborhood. BTW– The chicken and waffle sandwich with the crumbled blue cheese is AMAZING! So are the Island Fries with ginger ketchup, and the quesadillas! YUM!

Checked this place out last night before a show at The Fox. I really enjoyed it. I was a bit hesitant at first because it wasn’t very crowded, but the menu drew me in(unique options, reasonable prices). Our waitress was working her inaugural shift, and she did a great job! My friend got the Chicago Dog, and I got the Chicken & Waffle Sandwich. Hers was good, mine was great. Tender chicken with crumbled blue cheese, resting between two homemade crispy waffles — heck yes. The fries were also great — really crunchy — and they had a few choice dipping sauces. I recommend the honey mustard. The owner stopped by our table at the end of our meal to see how we liked it. I wanted to ask for an order of waffles to go. But, alas, I «chicken“ed out.

Im only reviewing the lounge. I came here with my cousin and her friends for their friends birthday. At first when we got there it was dead so we got a round of drinks and chilled. Ppl started comin in about 30 minutes after we arrived and it was a nice crowd. The place is kinda small but it had a mini dance floor in the middle of the room. The Dj was playing old and new school jams so I was having a good time :) Overall, Ill def come back here when Im lookin for a chill night.

On the way to a show at the New Parish me and my fellow show-goer stop into Luka’s to grab a beer and munchies(wrong move #1). The 45 minute wait and the throngs of people encourage me to seek greener pastures. We head in the direction of Giant Burger(wrong move #2) when my conscience tells me I would regret it in the morning. Hop onto telegraph and run into 2022, a true oasis in uptown. What more could a guy need? — Food(Burger was 3/5, Fries 5/5, Chicken Tacos 5⁄5) — Standard drinks($ 5 Beer, we missed happy hour) — AWESOME service(Devon and the waitress served it up with a smile and spread their love around the bar) — Solid DJ(DJ Lumberjack was going strong the whole night) — Sports(Plasma posted up above the bar made sure I didn’t miss the POS Lakers steal the playoff win over the Suns) Without a doubt every trip to Oakland will include a stop off at 2022. Keep it up guys!

Bless you Tina for taking us here but I wasn’t feeling it UNTIL you showed me the Happy Hour small plates menu… Southern Fried Chicken Lollipops?! You’ve got to be joking! You said you’d bring me here for happy hour… PINKYSWEAR? I may have a much better outlook on this place if it’s as good as I’ve been hearing.

Nice chill lounge, great for happy hours. Try the Ave Burger for food, and the smart energy cocktail is my favorite drink. Beats a red bull and vodka! Also Friday and Saturday night there is dancing…

Before a concert at the Paramount we were looking for a place to grab a quick dinner and we’ve had so so luck beforehand but we randomly came across 2022 as it was next to the parking lot that we parked in. We weren’t sure if they served meals here but found out that they did and we were glad we stopped in. Everyone working here was super friendly. We sat at the bar and the bartender actually gave us a free shot which when can you ever turn down. We had about four dinner small bite menu items and everything was excellent. We got in and out of there in no time and thoroughly enjoyed it there and now look forward to our next concert at the Paramount.

THEGOOD: When I first walked in the place I got a really good feeling. It was very easy to find and close to all the happenings of Oakland life. I like how the place was set up. So does me hitting this place twice in one week say something about the food??? I think it does :) So I went for Happy Hour on wed and dinner on Friday. Same waiter, she was delightful and on point! I tried the chicken lollipops, peanut chicken skewers, ribs, french fries, and sliders. Everything was GREAT except the peanut chicken skewers, something was just off about them… idk texture or cut of the meat, something… Anyway, the Happy Hour is the bomb… like $ 5 for everything including like 4 different drinks :) Ill be back, see you there :)

Great spot! Truly liked the fact that on a long weekend, I could go there with friends and get something to eat… which is what brought us there to begin with as we were wandering the streets of Oakland. Great spot, definitely would go back here again! Essentially an American style Tapas place. Friendly and pleasant wait staff.

I had a heck of a time tyring to find this place on Unilocal to review it. I sat in the place the entire time thinking it was called something else. The server explained the name change, but of course I couldn’t remember the name to review it because I still thought it was called the original name… got it? OK, enough of my babbling and on to 2022. The happy hour prices are great. You can get an appetizer and a couple of drinks for less than 20 bucks. The chicken Thai stick is 4 skewers with a spicy peanut sauce accompanied with a small cucumber salad at $ 5. So, if the prices, tasty nibbles, and the moderately strong drinks didn’t already sell me, the service pushed me over the edge. When we arrived the place was getting pretty busy, probably busier than normal due the the street fair. The food was a little slow coming, but nothing to complain about. A gentleman approached us asking if the service was too slow, his concern really was impressive. Great service, great food, great cocktails… boom!

I’m friends with a couple of folks who run the space and am vested in the growth of The Uptown community. I couldn’t be anymore pleased with what this spot is offering to those who actually live in the community. A place with damn good food that offers din on Sunday? What??? I ate there last night and a couple of my neighbors from across the street shared the bar with me. We all agreed that THIS is such an enhancement to The Uptown. Awesome warm and intimate space… The kitchen is open on Sunday until 11… yup, I said *Sunday* until 11!!! The chef is from Blackberry Bistro fame… and delivers… Get there tres early, as it fills up quickly! Some of us actually believe the place DESERVES five stars. Don’t knock it…
