Had to make emergency stop here, our little dog was suffering from back spasms. They were able to fit us in first thing in the morning, listened to our concerns and give us the med’s she needed. They even cut them up for us since we were in the middle of a road trip. Thanks so much!

My dog had a cough and took him to Dr. Beth. She took X-​rays and said all was clear and he should get better quickly. She gave him an antibiotic and a steroid; he reacted to one of them, went into respiratory arrest and died within hours. He had never been allergic to antibiotics previously. I don’t know what happened, but it was one of the most traumatic experiences I’ve ever had watching him die on her table. I could never go back.

We were vacationing in Bass Lake unfortunately our Pit got injured and needed to be seen. The staff was exceptional, the office was immaculate and so welcoming. This was by far one of the best vets I have ever been to. Wish I lived closer so it could be my regular vet.

About a couple of years ago, I had a 12 week old full bred Pomeranian that had gotten bit by a rattlesnake. Because he was Pomeranian, he was only about 2 – 3 pounds when this happened. I rushed him to the veterinarian and since I lived in Coarsegold it took me about 20 minutes to get him to there. I had called them on the way so they knew I would be bringing in a dog who got bit by a rattlesnake because i knew how dangerous rattlesnakes could be.
The moment I get there they have somebody ready to take Kovu to the back. I start talking to them about pricing and everything because of course they want to make sure they can get your money from you before they start trying to save your dogs life. They told me that the anti-​venom was a little over $ 700, and they would need the $ 700 before they started doing treatment on my puppy. That was a lot of money for me at the time, so I asked them if this was a decision I had to make right then to save his life or could I wait a couple hours to think about the money situation. They said that it did not mattered if I waited or not, that either way it would be the same outcome for him. The doctor personally said she could also take Kovu home with her at night to monitor him to make sure he was okay throughout the night. After talking about it with my boyfriend for about an hour waiting at the vet we decided to go get the money.
When we got back and gave them the money I asked if I could see Kovu before we left because they said it would be fine if we went home for a couple hours and they would let us know how he was doing. When I get to the back to see him he is laying down in a caged kennel and I noticed that his eye is unusually swollen. When I go to pet him he didn’t/couldn’t blink that eye. I asked the nurses about that and why he couldn’t blink and she stated «Oh, we should put some drops on that.» This angered me, why am I. someone who knows nothing about veterinary care, noticing a problem and discomfort in my dog and why were they not paying attention to his well being.
I go home to Coarsegold, and immediately upon getting home, which was only 20 minutes after leaving the vet, they call me told me that I should come back because he wasn’t doing so well. I come back and he is in a hospital room hooked up. I immediately notice his tongue is sticking out of his mouth and it is completely dry. I mention it to the nurse, and again she says the same thing, «Oh yes, we should put some drops on that». This is the second time my dog is obviously suffering and they are obviously not paying attention.
Kovu ends up dying a couple hours later. Over the next 6 – 8 months I pay the rest of the hospital costs for my dog dying there. Came out to a little over $ 1,600 total. I have talked to multiple vets and researched it since then, and I found out the chances of a 12 week year old 2 pound Pomeranian were slim to none. They made me believe I could wait to make a decision to give him the anti-​venom or not, which now I know should of been administered immediately or even not at all because he was two small and too young to survive that bite. I don’t know if it was inexperience on their part or if it was them just wanting my money even to this day. This was a very traumatic experience for me having to watch my dog die a very slow and painful death. I would not recommend Hoof & Paw if it was the last vet on Earth. Just wanted to share, if other people feel comfortable going there and had great experiences that is fine, but I will never forget this experience that I suffered through and I wanted people to know my story.

We are visitors to the area. I called two local vets to get a bordetella booster for our mutt. One vet would charge $ 47, including a $ 26 to set up a new account. Hoof n Paw charged $ 22.50 for the vaccination. They were pleasant and caring, as well as not running up a big bill for nothing.
