What a great neighborhood hardware store! We’ve been frequenting Pj’s for about 8 years and are grateful that Clyde and his crew are nearby. They have rescreened doors, put glass in windows and in general been conveniently located for most of our needs. If Clyde weren’t there, we’d be driving, driving, driving to the big box store, not shopping locally and not having a satisfying interaction shopping in our community. That’s what makes a community, right. they may not have exactly what we’re looking for all the time, but we’re willing to improvise to keep the store going, otherwise what’s the alternative, a blighted neighborhood, that isn’t walkable and another car on the road polluting. If I wanted to drive everywhere, I’d have moved to the burbs. Thanks!

It is difficult to gave a hardware store a good review when one checks online to check the store hours, runs out the door to get get the errand completed, only to find out that the ownership decided to not open up on August 19, 2012. We do not go to this store for anything except their elite brand of drain-unclogger. The stuff can cut through anything with boiling water rushing down the drain after it. Their staff turned us onto this drain-unclogger and made a recommendation on how to use it. That was a great interaction, but you’ve got to keep normal hours in the future. Especially when you are on the Oak Park side of the Oak Park/Chicago border.

Incredibly helpful, friendly staff. You always know that you’re dealing with a business that cares about its customers when you go in and ask, «Um, yeah, I need this harness thingy so that I can put my window-unit air conditioner in without it falling down three stories onto some unsuspecting passer-by,» and instead of looking at you like you’re a whack job(admittedly, I am), they look around and find something comparable to your poorly-described need. Friendly, helpful, and they had what I needed. There’s not much more I could ask for from a hardware store within walking distance from my apartment.

A nice neighborhood hardware store. Staff is always friendly, seemingly happy to see me, and very helpful. Why would I waste time driving to one of the jumbo stores when I have this Ace hardware close to home?

A great little hardware store with helpful and friendly employees. Clyde the owner is very knowledgeable and always willing to help with advice. He will drop everything to help you solve a problem including manufacturing a very custom solution using a pipe cutter, threader and elbow joints(worked perfectly.). The store is a little thin on inventory but flush with enthusiasm and good will. Good place to get glass cut and keys made.
