Be prepared to hunt for a parking space. I had an 10 am appointment and was late by 15 minutes because I couldn’t find a space nearby. Finally parked in the Sears parking lot near Harlem Ave and walked to the office. Crossing North Ave is scary because you have to push a button to even get a chance to walk across the street. When it’s your turn to cross the sign starts counting down by seconds how long you have to cross. Arrived 15 min. late and the optometrist had already taken the next patient, so I had to wait my turn.

Found this place by looking up optometrists that took my insurance, but it had no reviews and a very sparse storefront. The building has one name, the website another, and Unilocal a third. I thought maybe I should do a good turn and get it on the map properly, but wasn’t sure. I flipped a coin between this and Eyes Rite in Southtown, and went there. Few months later, my wee one needs an eye exam for kindergarten. I call up Eyes Rite and the receptionist states that they don’t take patients under 6 – 7 years old. Seems odd to exclude the throngs of incoming kindergarteners, but it’s not my business(literally). So I make the appointment with Dr. Tanaka. Things went real well. Dr. Tanaka’s bedside manner is fantastic. He can explain a concept very well, without making you feel dumb. My preschooler liked him as well, and took to his direction well. This man clearly has experience corralling excitable kids. I was really happy with everything, and will keep Dr. Tanaka as my kid’s eye doc. I’m considering switching to him for my appointments as well. Check him out.
