Specialties
Tom+Chee is the grilled cheese and tomato soup shop for the kid at heart, mixing classic comfort food with
fresh ingredients, healthy alternatives, and a flare for the unexpected.
From the vegetarian Hippy Chee, to the offbeat Grilled Cheese Donut, Tom+Chee offers 25+ sandwiches, fresh salads, along with three tomato soups with seasonal favorites like gazpacho and blue cheese chili.
Unlike most restaurants, we roast our own meats and make our dressings, sauces, and spreads from scratch. We also offer gluten-free bread, vegan cheese, vegan/vegetarian soups and make our basil pesto with sunflower seeds (perfect for our friends with tree-nut allergies). Tom+Chee goes the extra mile to serve all our customers food that is awesome and fresh!
Spotlighting quality ingredients and friendly customer service, T+C’s founders have grown this quirky grilled cheese business from a tiny food tent on a public square in Cincinnati to a rapidly expanding franchise empire, thanks to TV exposure and an investment deal on ABC’s «Shark Tank.» Our Grilled Cheese Donut has been featured on ABC’s «The Chew», Travel Channel’s «Man v. Food Nation» and was named one of America’s best new sandwiches by NBC’s «Today» show. The 2013 Brand Innovators Made in America Summit named Tom+Chee one of «25 Brands to Watch.»
History
Established in 2009.
In the winter of 2009, Cory Ward and Trey Quackenbush along with their wives Jenn and Jenny, set-up a humble tent next to the ice-skating rink on Cincinnati’s Fountain Square. Tom + Chee was off and running, selling grilled cheese, soup and hot chocolate to throngs of frosty customers.
As the weather warmed in 2010, Tom + Chee returned to the Square for weekday lunches and the expanded the menu to include cold gazpacho, a salad with grilled cheese croutons, and other warm weather options.
Later that year, Tom+Chee opened its first brick and mortar restaurant at 133 E. Court St. in Cincinnati.
Just six months later, a second location was opened across the Ohio River at Newport on the Levee in Newport, Kentucky.
These successful new stores opened the door for a third Cincinnati area location. By the end of 2012 the business had also expanded into the Louisville, Kentucky.
When 2014 came to an end, there were 19 total locations with 55 planned by the end of 2015.

Business Owner
Tom+Chee was co-founded by former restaurant manager Trew Quackenbush and his wife Jennifer Quackenbush, and entrepreneur Corey Ward and his wife Jenny Rachford. They are an innovative new restaurant chain that offers a unique menu based off of the classic meal, grilled cheese and tomato soup. What began in a small tent next to an ice-skating rink in Cincinnati’s Fountain Square quickly but quietly grew to three stores in the Cincinnati market, and they began franchising.
Tom+Chee has been featured on ABC’s Shark Tank, The Chew, The Travel Channel’s Man vs Food Nation, and Amazing Eats. The Today Show named its Grilled Cheese Doughnut one of the «Best Sandwiches in America.»
