El Azteca Mexican Restaurant

This is, by far, one of the friendliest Mexican restaurants I think I’ve ever dined in.
The food is as good as, and in some cases, better than many of the local Mexican restaurants with a comparable menu. Night or day, the service is quick, responsive, and attentive.
Plenty of parking, family friendly. I’m quickly becoming a regular.

I have been coming here for years and was disappointed to see they no longer offer the lunch buffet. The white cheese qeso is excellent. The service is fast and friendly and the price is very reasonable.

I’m back! It’s been a while due to a busy work schedule but I’m back for my favorite nachos! Nothing short of exceptional each and every time! Great service, extremely clean, better food. Can’t go wrong with El Azteca!

Hello All! Love, love, love El Azteca for YEARS! We are obviously not the only ones as you will see «regulars» all the time! You can always count on great food, service, fresh chips and yummy yum yum Margeritas! But it is more than that, they always make you feel like family. If, on rare occasions, there is anything slightly wrong, they not only fix it but you can feel their dismay that things were not «perfect». As we love Mexican food we do go everywhere all over St. Charles county and in St Louis as well, but we always come running back, even though it is no longer our closest Mexican restaurant. We also do all our birthdays and family gatherings there, and once even a very lovely baby shower! Thank you El Azteca family! :)

Hey everyone! El Azteca is having $.99 margaritas (12 ounce) for all of January to celebrate 9 years. Once you come I think you will realize what a great place this is. It’s our second family! Food is good, prices are good and most importantly it’s family run and they make you feel at home. We used them for birthdays and our wedding rehearsal dinner. They are always willing to accommodate anything you need. Manuel is the best!
Our two favorites are tacos carne asada and pollo especial!!!

Because El Azteca is AAdvantage dining and because Timber Creek Grill no longer is participating, Ms T and I went for a quick lunch on the day before Christmas (The Mi Lupita staff was getting a much deserved day off). I thought I may as well check it out. I was expecting one of the predictable cookie-​cutter Mexican places and that is what we found at El Azteca. It was OK, very predictable food.
I always start at a new place with huevos con chorizo if they have them on the menu and I ask for them even if they are not listed. Here I asked for chiles torreados and the server wanted to know if I wanted them mixed in with the eggs and I said, «yes». I liked that he understood what I was after. I have been in places that did not understand the concept of chiles with eggs. In this case I received a decent plate of eggs with chorizo that had a little heat and very good grilled chiles were incorporated. It was a good start. I found the beans to be a little grainy and I suspect they are canned. They are slightly red colored with red chile and also had a little heat.
Ms T just wanted a taco salad. She liked the ground beef which was seasoned and decently salted. She did not like the grainy refried bean texture and would order without beans next time. Otherwise the salad was also fine.
The chips came out freshly fried, but I found them bitter. I’m sure their frying oil was past it’s prime. That’s OK, I have almost quit eating chips and salsa anyway. I just don’t need them anymore. The salsa is pretty mundane, over onioned which with the too-​old cooking oil made it easy to not fill up on chips.
Because of its reasonable proximity to home and the AAdvantage program participation, I can see returning for lunch once in a while. I will try the Carnitas (red or green) and Chile Colorado. While not truly outstanding it is acceptable standard Mexican fare presented be very nice servers.
Addition — a few weeks later we came back. This time I did get the red sauced carnitas. The serving is huge and comes in a very hot molcajete. I seriously think this is enough for four people. I’m sure the pork is not cooked in this sauce, because the flavors are not infused in the meat, but the sauce is very good and it was hard to stop short of killing myself on this.

It is really tough to differentiate yourself as a sit down, relatively cheap Mexican restaurant. El Azteca doesn’t seem to care about that «differentiation» as much as they do sending out good food and providing very good customer service.
The first thing that I noticed as one of my friends and I strolled in at about 1:30 is that the place was relatively slow for a weekday. I suppose it may be more of a dinner place? But I really don’t know that for sure. The restaurant is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks.
Anyway, generally what I get whenever I go to a Mexican place of this nature is arroz con pollo. I did the same thing here. It was very good at El Azteca but I still like El Maguey’s version better. Probably just a matter of personal preference though.
Service was excellent. They kept the chips and salsa flowing as well as the our drinks; all this while providing a very warm and comfortable, unforced personality. Overall a rock solid four star experience. I would definitely be willing to go back.

Great, friendly service. But the taco salad was just thrown together. So much so that the water from the lettuce just left a liquid mess in the bottom of the «bowl.» A little disappointed in the lack of flavors too. Maybe I’d come back to try a dinner meal sometime, because the reviews are favorable, but lunch doesn’t seem to be their string suit!

I personally have a slight obsession with Mexican food. Right now I’m currently on tour trying out different places in the St. Louis area. El Azteca is pretty close to my house which makes it very convenient for me.
The place itself from the outside looks pretty small. I thought it was going to be a small shack Mexican place with not much room inside. It’s actually very inviting and colorful. It’s a fairly moderate sized place that invites you in.
The service here was phenomenal. I did go at a slow time which was around the lunch hour. The service was very quick especially with refilling drinks and refilling the chips and salsa which I thought was a huge plus. I personally eat a ton of chips and salsa before the actual meal and love to get refills quick. The food also came out very fast within fifteen minutes. Fast and efficient.
The food was as good as it gets. It was nothing spectacular, but it did the job and I was satisfied to a full degree. I got the chicken chimichanga which is my go-​to at any Mexican place. I was a huge fan of the amount of queso they glazed on top of it. They were very liberal with it which was great. The salsa that came with the chips was also very good. You could taste the bits of cilantro in it which makes it seem authentic.
Overall El Azteca will fulfill your Mexican food needs with good service, good food and a good experience. Try em for lunch! 4 Stars.

The meal was fresh! Delicious! Service was quick and friendly. Food came out really fast — a bit too fast as our appetizer came with our food. Otherwise a perfect experience!

I really enjoy their food, excellent choices and all yummy. At one point they offered a buffet-​not sure if they still have it bc I haven’t seen it in awhile but it would be great if they brought it back.

My friend and I have tried MANY Mexican restaurants and always order chicken nachos to share. After coming here randomly one day (we were driving by, saw it, and thought we’d stop), we were highly impressed with their nachos. Large serving, lots of chicken, great service.
We started coming in here fairly frequently, always on Saturdays in the late afternoon, so the place was never busy. After a few visits they started to recognize us and would seat us and tell us our nachos would be right out. We noticed that the portion got larger, too. More chips. More chicken. They hooked us up!
Like every Mexican restaurant, you get free chips and salsa. I typically don’t eat the salsa at any Mexican place because it’s usually too spicy for me. The salsa here is so delicious I could eat it with a spoon. It’s still a bit spicy (so not disappointing for you who like spicy) but it’s so amazing that I just suck it up and drink lots of water and then I eat more salsa. If I could buy it in a bottle to go, I would.
We’ve never been here when it’s really busy, so I can’t speak to the service during that time, but everyone is always super friendly when we’re here. It’s completely out of the way for us to come here but sometimes we just really want those nachos so we make the drive.
Every time we’ve tried a new place, we always say «El Azeca is better. We should just stop going to new places.»

The food was delicious and the service was phenomenal. A great restaurant run by great people!

I called in an order for 730 pu home at 737 food was cold not warm but cold called but no manager available last time

When I looked in the door, El Azteca seemed very small. Turn a few times and it’s an average-​sized restaurant.
I ordered 2 cheese enchiladas and 1 cheese burrito. The burrito was delicious; the enchiladas were decent. My companion ordered tacos al pastor that weren’t shredded as she was expecting. Instead, they were cut up and consequently not as tender/​juicy as she had hoped.
The server was nice.
The peach margarita was delicious! However, my water was not refilled.
I’ll definitely return to El Azteca.

We love this restaurant! We eat here at least once a week as it is the best mexican food we have found in O’Fallon. Service is fantastic, food is great! The chips and salsa are the best. Must try!

Great place for delicious quick Mexican food. Always great service when there! Their food comes out quick and if there ever is a problem, they take care of it right away. Friendly staff and the most delicious chicken fajita nachos!

Another disappointing Mexican restaurant in St Charles county. Poor quality meat in fajitas — it looked like beef was run through a blender. Margaritas were from a mix, as was guacamole. Food served at lukewarm temps. Completely tasteless chimis. Will not return.

I’m from Texas and I have had some amazing tex mex and this isn’t even close to being good. Guacamole wasn’t even from real avocados and the steak fajitas tasted like strips of ground beef. Crumbly and tasteless.
Nothing is fresh. This is not Mexican food.
