Description

Specialties

Sour Kraut is an authentic German restaurant and the only German restaurant in Rockland County. A lovely little restaurant in the heart of Nyack with only 7 little tables, beautiful woodwork and exposed brick wall interior.

Everything on the menu is carefully made from scratch including all desserts. We use no chemicals or preservatives and pride ourselves with seasonal organic vegetables and herbs from the owner, Marianne Olive’ large organic garden. Marianne also raises honeybees and has honey available for sale in the fall. Please put your orders in early.

This year she will create her own herbal tea garden. Look forward to sampling after the summer growing season.

We do catering for all occasions, both in house and your house and will be featuring a new spring and summer menu beginning April 1st.

Sopur Kraut specializes in a large selection of organic wines and 28 different German beers. We will be having beer samplings and wine pairing dinners so call for more information.

History

Established in 2011.

I am Marianne Olive, the owner of Olive’s next door which was established in 1979 and Hair’s Marianne which was established in 1976. Hair’s Marianne was located in the store which is now called Sour Kraut. I graduated from the French Culinary Institute and have been in the restaurant business all my life.

My daughter, Meaghan met Thomas while on vacation in Germany who eventually moved here to be with Meaghan. He was a fabulous German chef and when the store was vacant, Thomas said he would cook and help create the menu if I turned the space into a German restaurant… And so I did.

Thomas still works for me at Sour Kraut and makes the most delicious food. My daughter, Mollie works part time while finishing college and my Step daughter Jennifer also work at Sour Kraut. My son, Matthew built the entire place and I’m so proud of the great job he did. My daughter Monica helps when she visits from LA.

Come and enjoy a delicious German culinary experience with German music and dirndls
