Selective Service Auto Repair

Everyone’s heard of dogs getting hit by a car, well, my car got hit by a dog. Sigh. The dog is okay, but she hit my car hard enough to put a dent in it. Not that you could have picked out that one dent from all the others, but it caused the door to make a noise upon opening and closing. Bob fixed it in ten minutes and I was out.
But, I’m telling the story in the wrong order. One of our cars had been diagnosed with a bad head gasket by our beloved mechanics although it wasn’t exhibiting any of the classic signs of a bad head gasket. A friend told me about Bob so I brought the car to him for a second opinion. Bob is a super nice guy who loves helping people and also loves car puzzles. He did some diagnostics and determined it was a couple of bad sensors, which I suspected all along. It’s been two months and about 1400 miles and the car runs great. Bob saved me well over $ 2,000 or potentially getting rid of a perfectly good car and I will be eternally grateful to him. He tries to save you as much money as he can while giving you good, honest advice and his labor rates are about half of most shops.
The shop set up is a little funky, he’s a one man show and there’s not a lot of room for cars or a fancy waiting room, but I’ll take funky if I can save hundreds or thousands on car repair. Plus, I trust him and that’s priceless.

Was recommended by a friend for reasonable rates and flexible schedule. Only had a minor part replaced and adjusted, however have second car so wasn’t rushed. Negotiated with bob on a fair discount but when repair was finished, he renegotiated and charged %20 more than he first agreed. Also, replaced part wasn’t properly adjusted and had a loud noise while driving, had to take to another mechanic to correct. Left experience with overall disappointment, as if I had been «punished» for wanting a good deal. Am a student, didn’t try to unreasonably low ball. Will not recommend.

I have been going to Bob for all my car repairs for years. He works on my Miata as well as my ’56 Chevy. Reasonably priced and very honest.

Bob came in the day after Thanksgiving because my check-​engine light was on. After hooking up the code reader he told me it was a loose gas cap and I was on my way for no cost. He was honest, helpful, and gave me a reasonable estimate for changing my timing belt, which will be coming up soon.
