We had the pad thai and the drunken noodle to go. The drunken noodle was swimming in oil and the noodles were a little over cooked. The broccoli was a strange color– it must have been frozen or canned. The pad thai didn’t strike my fancy and was on the sweet side. The chicken was a little mysterious. I just wasn’t pleased with my first visit. I am kind of disappointed as it’s close by.

Great option if you’re in norwich area for the money. Food is consistent and always good. Their thai is decent as well, even for being a chinese restaurant.

Well, a bit put off by the outside — a storefront in downtown Norwich, but glad I went in anyway. Much nicer on the inside than out — clean, well lit nice décor. And not too crowded for a Tuesday night. Started with the wonton soup — very good broth with small wontons, not the typical larger ones that are difficult to handle. And not served with greasy fried noodles but very light and tasty shrimp chips — nice touch. Then on to the Chicken Pad Thai — a nice portion and very tasty. and a nice pot of jasmine tea as well. Overall a very good meal, friendly service and an excellent value — much better than any overpriced meal you would get at the nearby Mohegan Sun casino. Always nice to venture out and about.

haven’t tried green papaya, but i’m pretty sure it won’t beat Asian Thai. Huge curry portion, and by huge I mean 2x the size of what you get in NYC. Not only larger, but damn good, one time they even had fresh lemongrass in it. Their other stuff is ok, but seriously you won’t find better curry almost anywhere else. As everyone else notes, don’t be dissuaded by the fact that no one else is there, apparently they haven’t figured out there are better options than pizza in norwich.

Discovered this place last year and have been back many times. Food is always good. Service is fast and friendly. You should definitely check this place out.

No bean sprouts in checking fried rice but it was brown rice and not the cheap yellow.

Not authentic thai food. Like the previous review said, thai food made by Chinese people. Had a pad se ew. It was tasteless. Probably won’t come here again.

Looks kind of creepy from the outside, but your taste buds will be glad once you go in. Smallish dining room but large, varied menu. We had the Mei Fun, Sweet and Sour Pork and the house rice. All were very good and we’ll certainly go back! Held back a star as service was very slow. We were the only table on a Wednesday night and each dish came out slowly and separately.

Holy cow! Amazingsauce. This is one of my first experiences with Thai food and I am beyond impressed. I ordered pa-nag curry, extra spicy, spicy basil and coconut rice. The coconut rice is crave-worthy(and heart-shaped! So cute!) the curry was VERY spicy(bc I told them to make it as spicy as possible… gooooood JOB!) the fried rice that came with my spicy basil was great! Better than average, for sure. I was looking to excite my taste buds(I was going to order Five Guys, lol). Man– I got it! They are totally on vacation right now. Seriously though– the coconut rice was ridiculously good. I’m trying to ration it for tonight as we speak, lol. Mayyyybe I’ll just go back later!

This is not thai food to me. This is chinese people doing thai dishes. This is an attempt at asian fusion/mixed-menu where the lines blur at the wrong places. The beef satay is not beef satay. What they serve is chinese restaurant style beef teriyaki. It tastes very obviously of oyster sauce. I’m not talking about thai nam pla fish sauce, I mean chinese oyster sauce. They serve it with a heavy sweet and sour sauce as well as peanut sauce. It really goes best with a simple syrup and cucumber. The peanut sauce was also wrong and cold. I dont mean it was room temperature… I mean it was chilled. Proper thai peanut sauce should be room temp if not slightly warm to prevent congealing and to bring out the flavor of the oil and red curry that should be added to it. This was cold bland nothingness. The hot basil chicken was also very chinese. The meat seemed like it had been starched and the sauce was too heavy. They were conservative with the heat which is probably based on their customer so I wont be too critical of that. They should also realize that there is a difference — in flavor and heat — between using sambel and actual thai hot chilis. I get that they are trying to fill a void in the area(especially by putting thai in their name) but I’m just not feeling it. They do have some allegedly malaysian dishes too as well as some interesting seafood offerings. Haven’t tried those. Maybe their general tso chicken is what they do best.

Edit: The restaurant is now closed. Unfortunately Andy and his family needed to relocate. — Reading the other reviews, I’d just like to make the point that the place is very different now(Aug. 2014) from early 2013. My mom and I go almost every week. Sometimes we eat there sometimes we take it to go. If you go, don’t be discouraged by the lack of people in the restaurant! The location is not very good and they don’t do much(any) advertising so it’s still kind of unknown to a lot of people. The food is delicious! My mom and I are both gluten free(by necessity, not choice). They have a lot of food choices for us. The owner, Andy, and his wife are very sweet. If you have special dietary needs they will do what they can to accommodate you. My usual order is Yellow Curried Fried Rice with chicken. I’m picky and ask for no onions and celery and to add snow peas. They know it’s me now when I call, haha. It has a lot of flavor and just a little heat. The steamed edamame pods are great — they come salted, so if you are avoiding salt make sure to ask for none. The chicken satay is good, too. It comes with some tasty sauces. The curries all have a coconut base. I don’t like coconut, but I’ve had it and my mom gets the yellow curry all the time. I’ve been told by friends who eat a lot of thai food that Asian Thai’s curry is a little bland. Parking is easy. There is some on the street right next to the building as well as a free parking garage right across from the street. Décor _is_a little cheese, but it’s not offensively so. I do mean to tell them to get new music to play, though.(For whatever reason every time I go I get the Taylor Swift /Celine Dion rotation). They do have a liquor license. Typical beers and wines are available. It’s definitely a welcome addition to Norwich and worth a try if you like Asian/Thai flavors. Edit: Someone’s been reading these reviews! The edamame have far less salt on them.(Personally, I love salt, but it makes it easier for those who don’t).

For the price, it is superb quality! Parking was easy. THey bring freshly fried shrimp chips! thats a treat for someone who know what it is. I am asian and grow up with thai food. This place def tone it down the heat for my american in law. The cooking could be more authentic, but they just right for quiet Norwich connecticut. We all loved it and would come back. The decoration is a bit weird, but food is def a solid!

What a great meal! We did take out tonight and a mix of shrimp dishes. The roti canai satisfied a craving for family visiting from India. The pad Thai had plentiful shrimp and sauce. For my personal taste, a little more crushed peanut and another slice of lime could have been included, but was delicious. The green curry with shrimp was loaded with yummy ingredients, the exotic shrimp had a great roasted garlic sauce and plentiful veggies. The last dish was flat rice noodles with more shrimp and more veggies. Our shrimp craving was more than fulfilled!!! We will be back again and again.

First of all, I was expecting to be disappointed coming to this place. However was I wrong! I ordered the curry chicken and roti for appetizers and the Chicken with cashew nuts and dried chilis. The appetizers was ok. It tasted like they used frozen roti instead of fresh made roti. I could tell the difference and the curry sauce was milder than I expected. However, the standout dish was the Chicken with cashew nuts and dried chilis. It was amazing. It was hot, spicy and very flavorful. If you order the thai iced tea it will reduce the burn. All in all a very enjoyable dinner.

Based on other reviews I decided to have lunch here. The dining area as well as the restroom are spotless. I will admit the walls are a bit too much. Going with the $ 6.95 lunch menu I decided on the red curry at heat level 4(they give a choice from 1 to 5. It was delicious. Creamy, a bit sweet from the coconut milk and just the right amount of heat. This coupled with the serving of rice, salad and soup is more than enough food and an absolute steal for the price. No more McDonalds or pizza slices for me when I’m in Norwich.

This is hands down the best place to go for take out in Norwich, perhaps the best food in town. I have gotten the pineapple fried rice several times because I just can’t get enough of this tasty dish! My boyfriend usually goes for the curry and is always pleasantly surprised by the authenticity and taste. There is always plenty left over for later. The service is always polite and on point. I would recommend this to anyone looking to actually enjoy the food they’re eating in norwich.

The spicy hot soup that comes with the lunch special is absolutely crave worthy in my book! *drool* How great it must be for a sore throat. Cliffnotes: ~Google maps was off. We’re talking 5 – 8 buildings off. We reported the issue:) ~We found street parking, but it turns out right across the restaurant is a parking structure. Not sure the cost though. ~ Service was attentive; being that we were the only customers [the whole time] ~ Price for two; $ 24(1 lunch special + 1 reg. price entrée + 1 appetizer + 1 beverage) ~The Pad Thai automatically come with chicken and shrimp. Something I’m not use to, as one usually picks the choice of animal(or tofu option) Breakdown: We actually got lost by using Google Map instead of the Unilocal map. Keep in mind this place makes both Thai & Chinese(as their sign suggest), and a pinch of Japanese; they have Udon on their menu as well. My other half ordered the Tofu Tod(6 pcs) $ 3.45. I think he’s trying to get into eating tofu. Frankly, you can skip it, you’re not missing out on anything. He also got a bubble tea $ 3.25. The lunch special Red Curry, soup and salad combo was worth it for $ 6.45,. Robert though, ordered the«regular» order of Pad Thai $ 8.95 which he was told was bigger than the lunch special. When his order came, I had to question whether or not it was a «regular» size, and if so, I could only image how small the lunch special was. I was craving Thai food since leaving Hawaii, and so far this place was worth the trip for us. I’m not saying it authentic Thai food, but it fix my craving. Keep in mind this was the closest Thai place around; 40 minute drive. By Hawaii standards a 40 minutes drive to get Thai food. GTFO. Waaaaaaaa!

Inauthentic, mediocre food served in a cheesy atmosphere. Many serving mistakes(i.e. the waitress forgot about our Thai iced coffees, which tasted as if it came from the bottle, got white rice instead of the fried rice, received beef basil instead of the ordered chicken basil dish). My food(beef basil noodles) was cold when I received it and the noodles were very pale. There were also lots of spelling errors in the menu. My favorite dish was the salt and pepper squid. The other plus was the food that was listed as spicy… actually was a little spicy! My party and I came here one week after grand opening, so it’s clear that they have lots of kinks to iron out.
