We are a nationally Accredited Preschool serving children ages 2, 3, 4 and 5 with parent-​toddler, preschool, PreK, enrichment and summer programs. We offer morning and afternoon sessions of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days per week. Qualified teachers deliver intentional instruction based on current brain development research with topics drawn from the emergent interests of the children. Our experiential learning programs are safe, fun and flexible to meet children’s and families needs.

History

Established in 1988.

Established by the Rowayton United Methodist Church in 1988, the Five Mile River Nursery School was founded to provide a warm, safe, nurturing environment for every child to successfully grow, learn and discover.

Meet the Manager

Lauriston A.

Manager

Lauriston T. Avery was one of the school’s «Founding Mothers» in 1988. She has served as Chair of the Five Mile River Nursery School Council, teacher of the 2s, 3s and Enrichment programs prior to being appointed Director in 1995. She holds a Masters of Science in Education from the University of New England, and a Connecticut Director’s Credential at the Masters Level. She serves on the Norwalk Early Childhood Council’s Program Committee for Professional Development, and on the Transition Committee for PreK to Grade Three. She has been privileged to lead the Five Mile River Nursery School through NAEYC Accreditation three times since 2000.
