My 11 year old son has loved the time that he has spent with Corey and Brian learning Aikido. The vibe at the Dojo is great. If you are looking for martial arts program for kids in the Norwalk-Westport-New Canaan area you should definitely give it a try. There is a great balance between philosophy and practice.

I am a physicist and I have been practicing harder styles of karate such as Isshin-Ryu and JKA as well as softer styles such as Wado-Ryu for over 20 years and wanted to start learning a «softer» art to see what it was like. This school has been marvelous! The instructors are knowledgeable and there is a safe atmosphere that is essential to learning martial arts. People are not in the school to hurt people. Instead, the teachers and senior students emphasize safety and consistently start slowly with beginners, displaying great patience as new students(such as myself) learn the basics so that they can safely practice the art. Nevertheless, you really do learn the art of Aikido. The instructors’ understanding of the art is deep, and they have a real talent for instructing from several viewpoints so that if one method of teaching a movement doesn’t work, they have several other ways to try. Furthermore, they seem well-attuned to the spirit of the art, which encourages partners working together cooperatively to learn how the different techniques work, rather than simply banging into one another or throwing people around until the technique works right. If you’re thinking about it, come try out one of the introductory classes – they’re a great deal and you’ll find out a lot about Aikido!
