The Daily Sundial is an award-​winning, and financially independent, student newspaper and website. We are student journalists who seek to gather, write, edit and publish or disseminate news for our students and community.

We want to connect with our audience both online and in print and embrace the changes in journalism. In our efforts to tell compelling stories in any form, as well as break news, we want to be the go-​to source for information and the voice of CSUN.

Is the paper perfect? Of course not! I’s a student run paper.
That being said… it’s still pretty good!
Here’s why:
It offers local and campus news.
It fosters a sense of community and gives the campus a voice.
The photographers and reporters get out there during crises, like the Oviatt Gunman and the Occupy LA raid.
It’s a real-​world learning experience for the photographers, reporters, writers and editors.
It provides student jobs in marketing and advertising.
It’s financially independent.
The people that work there are very down to earth and passionate.
The Publisher is very flexible and lets the staff try new things and new ideas.
The advertising department has a philosophy of connecting local businesses with the campus rather than just taking people’s money.
It runs 4 days a week, and has a lot of corresponding multimedia web content online essentially 24⁄7.
So next time you are on campus pick up a copy!

A List of All the Things I Love About The Sundial, In No Particular Order, or: How A Shitty Campus Newspaper Gets Five Stars:
–The L.A. Times crossword puzzle therein.
–It’s free.
–Seeing all of the spelling and grammar mistakes in every issue makes me feel smart.
–The orange newspaper dispensers brighten the campus up.
–The time I was in the opinion column.
–«Special» editions that crack me up.
–Sudoku.
–Coupons, sometimes.
–I guess I learn things about CSUN.
–The poorly drawn cartoons that aren’t funny and usually don’t make sense, but I read them anyway because I feel like someday I’ll understand one.
–The Sports Page is on the back, which is the handiest position for skipping the Sports Page.
–That one time that the sorority bitches got pissed off about an Op-​Ed piece on sororities and fraternities, then proceeded to collect and dispose of 2,000 copies of the newspaper, only to have the journalism people get super pissed off (obviously), run the story again the next week, then post it on the Sundial front page (which pops up on the CSUN campus website) for a week, then print Op-​Ed pieces on sorority bitches every day for the next week and a half.
Moral: never piss off a journalist.
