Business Owner

Together this mother-​daughter team have over 30 years of experience in the hair care industry. After operating a successful local salon for over 20 years, Micky Chung has now teamed with her daughter Starr French to bring the Art of Style to Northridge Village’s finest. Starr is a progressive stylist educated by Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon. After being classically trained in Beverly Hills, she eagerly brought her specialties in multi-​cultural hair and extensive hair therapy to Studio Dyad. Studio Dyad is a partnership to bring art into your style through amazing hair, nails and makeup.

Just got the worst haircut of my life :))
I came to Mikey because I read so many good things about her here.
I’ve never paid $ 40+ for a haircut and it was the worst. It’s a lot shorter than I asked for. As soon as I came in she seemed like she was in a rush to get me out the door. While shampooing, she scrubbed really hard & it made me uncomfortable. So disappointed. I showed her a picture of what I wanted and it’s nowhere near the length of layers that she gave me.

I really loved getting my haircut here. Micky cut and styled my hair.
I had called at first to ask for a price, because I’m a student and don’t have that much money. Since it was my first time, she gave me a discount, which really helped because I have a lot of hair. She also set up my appointment the same day. When I arrived I noticed a lot of on an older crowd, but Micky is really experienced and knows all kinds of hair.
She asked me what I wanted, and I wasn’t really sure, just that I wanted bangs. Micky also recommended that I thin out my hair and add V layers, so I trusted her with that. She went through my hair thinning it out and adding the layers, she cut out all the damaged hair, but still kept it long so I can tie it up. She then added product, blow dried and styled. My hair looked so great! The texture felt great too! I guess the way she did it, it made me face look really cute too. I haven’t had a good haircut in a long time, and I totally loved it.
I will be coming back here again for sure. I would really recommend coming here for a haircut, this place is really great.

Love Micky. She definitely knows how to cut hair, and yes, including men’s (Korean) hair. She speaks both Korean and English well so you can tell her what you want. She will also give you advice about how to cut and style your hair.
It took an hour and a half to cut my hair because we were talking, and my hair ended being a little longer than I wanted, but it was going to take more time to cut it shorter.
But she knows how to cut/​style Korean men’s hair, so I think I finally found my salon/​stylist here in the Valley. Plus, Micky is lovely to talk to. Will be coming back regularly!

Micky Chung has been «hitting my dome» since 1991. She is a very creative hair stylist and has an intuitive sense of what looks good on me. Micky has great technique with the scissor and works quickly and efficiently. She is very customer oriented and takes special care making sure my eyebrows and neck/​ears areas are clean or trimmed. Micky has great energy and an excellent sense of humor. It is a fun experience getting my hair styled at this salon. I have lived in West Hills, Topanga, Woodland Hills, Sherman Oaks, Encino, Downtown L.A. and San Mateo since meeting Micky Chung. No one does my hair better and I always come back to her. Micky prices her services very reasonably. If you go to see Micky, tell her Steve Klein said hello. Also, shout out «Micky Chung, ‘che’goowa’!» That’s Korean for «Micky Chung is number 1.» She deserves the accolades.

After moving from Texas to California having to find a new hair stylist terrified me! Especially for my platinum curly hair/​dreadlocks style. I was referred to Starr by another client of hers and could not have asked for a better experience! She was extremely knowledgeable and took the time to listen and understand my needs. I felt very comfortable with her and will be going back again! Definitely recommend!

Yes I am a male, and yes I go to a HAIR SALON for my monthly hair cuts. Why? Because Micky is simply the best at what she does. I met Micky back in 2006 when I was looking for someone to fix a haircut that a barber had completely botched. I have ridiculously straight Asian hair that’s really hard to cut, and so yet another barber had failed to meet my expectations. However, even with what little hair I had left, Micky managed to make me look normal again, and I left the place with a big smile on my face. Ever since then, I’ve absolutely refused to let anyone else touch my hair.
That may not impress you all that much, but let me also add that I lived in San Diego from 2006 to 2014, just over 150 miles away. Doing the math, 12 hair cuts per year x 8 years x 300 miles round trip = 28,800 miles total that I’ve driven in my life to get my hair cut from Micky. Still not impressed? I now live in SACRAMENTO, over 360 miles away, and I still have no plans to let anyone but Micky cut my hair. Am I crazy? Probably, but she really is just that good. I challenge you to find anyone in the SF Valley or even the entire LA area that cuts hair better than she does.
The best part is that I never even have to tell her what I want or how to cut my hair. I only need to say «long» or «short,» and she takes care of the rest. Her eye for detail and talent for knowing just how to shape my head is something that still impresses me to this day. Whether you’re a male or a female, Asian or not, go see Micky for your next cut and you’ll see what I’m raving about.
BTW, here’s a tip. Make sure you call beforehand to get an appointment, or you might end up waiting for hours. This is especially true on Saturdays. Still worth it, but it’ll save you a lot of time.

Danny is the best stylist ever! If you’re looking for a particular cut he is the man! The first time I came in was during my search for a new barber. I had went to several other places in the area and each had failed to meet my expectations. When I went to Danny, I showed him a picture of David Beckham’s undercut style. He cut it exactly like Beckham’s to my amazement. If you’re looking for celebrity cut or any style for that matter, Danny has it covered all for an affordable price. He is very experienced and I’m glad to have found him.

Micky, Micky, Micky…
I love her, I hate her; I can’t stand her, I can’t live without her.
I’ve been going to Micky on and off for 14 years. I met her on the day she did my hair for prom, and that was the beginning of a very rocky relationship.
I’m extremely finicky about my cuts, and she is the best at cutting, hands down. Hands down! I have been to many many different salons in hopes of finding someone who even remotely comes close to her shearing skills, only to come crawling back her. It’s like a bad relationship. So why have I tried to leave her so many times?
My major gripe with her is her *inconsistency* with price. She is soo inconsistent and all over the place all the time that I actually wonder if she pulls her prices out of her butt depending on her mood at the time or that day’s business? The thing is, I don’t care if she charges an arm and a leg; just be consistent. I confront her about it, and she blames ME by calling me one of her most difficult clients.
It’s a good thing I’ve known her for 14 years and accept her for the crazy Korean lady that she is, or I would tell her to get her shit together.

Micky you are a life savior!!! They took me in last minute on New Year’s Eve, unfortunately my regular go to person was all booked up but it turned out for the best. I was really hesitant to cut my super long hair knowing I only wanted about an inch and half off, but Micky recommended I needed three (it was about 9 months since my last haircut :(). Micky’s warm inviting energy made me trust in her decision to cut three inches off my hair, and one of her regulars even mentioned that long hair is her specialty. She did such an amazing job!!! my hair has never felt this healthy and gorgeous! :) and she cut my hair in under an hour, let me tell you this lady new what she was doing! Thank you Micky

Absolutely the best! Starr was able to fit me in on Saturday last minute for an «updo» for my reception. I was a stressed out bride but she was so patient with me and made me feel at ease. I was so happy with my hair for my party. What a difference it made. She’s amazing, talented, and works fast if your in a hurry like I was. Plus, it’s a fun and very clean atmosphere! :-)

Before I came into the salon, I had crazy uneven hair colors and desperate to change it right away. Thank God I found Starr to fix my hair!!! She bleached my hair to platinum and came out amazing! I never trusted anyone to cut my hair except myself… I feel so relieved that I found my new hairstylist! She is so sweet and generous. Very flexible with hours too, she is a trooper!!!
