Gary’s Custom Optik

I just happened to find this place when I was looking for somewhere local to fix my sunglasses, and I am glad I found this place. One of the nose pads on my Prada sunglasses broke and I needed to replace them with a new set of nose pads. Other places were not helpful but at Gary’s they began fixing my sunglasses right away. Everyone was very friendly and treated me well. I talked with who I think was Gary and he was very nice and helpful. He told me that they could have ordered everything for me and to come here first in the future. Great customer service! Since I already had the replacement nose pads, they fixed my sunglasses for free! Even cleaned the lenses! I will definitely be coming back if I have any other issues with my sunglasses. I may even come here to purchase some new shades; they have a ton of sunglasses in there.
Other places do not seem to want to take the time to actually fix your sunglasses, but at Gary’s Custom Optik they really help you out.

Gary, where have you been all my life?! literally across the street the entire time!
I didn’t even know this place existed until my new insurance kicked in, and Gary’s was on the top of the list and was according to google maps, 1.0 mile away from me. I decided to give it a shot, because I simply could not relate to the styles and trends of the day and the selections at every other commercial store. I needed something else. I am not your typical everyday shopper; I usually had to buy my glasses online after rigorously researching them.
So off I went to Gary’s. I was greeted by Gary and Michelle, and was immediately and very warmly helped by Michelle to choose my latest set of spectacles. Michelle was very attentive and patient to my needs and did a great job in assessing the type of style I was not only searching for, but one that meshed with my personality and sense of practicality. I am very particular about my eyewear, and after trying out what I believe to be around 20 different pairs, we hit the mark with a beautiful Garrett Leight 1036 bentleys!
Once received, Gary adjusted the glasses to fit the contour of my head and made it fit like a fine bespoke suit. I have never had glasses that didn’t strangle the sides of my head, and this made my headaches disappear in a matter of minutes. I didn’t even know that it could be done, and my glasses fit like a glove; they feel like an extension of myself. They are beautiful!
I also decided to get my sunglasses lens changed out, and Gary did it for half the price of what lenscrafter’s quoted me and with better lenses (Ray-​Ban G-​15). I was disheartened to hear that my sunglasses that I bought would never be worn due to the fact that I was not willing to spend $ 250 on polarized lenses, but now, not only do I have them, they are custom fitted to me and me only!
Everything is done on site (Gary services them himself), and done in the utmost professional and warm manner possible. As someone who has worked in the customer service industry for over 10 years, I know and appreciate outstanding customer service when I see it. Gary has a customer for life.

The woman here was so nice. I was in a bind and just needed to use the restroom and she was so kind and accommodating, even though I wasn’t a customer. I would highly recommend going here for glasses purely because I know how you will be treated!

One of best optical experiences, I have had. Great costumer service they make you feel welcome. Gary is a expert when it comes to frames and quality, he took his time and helped me with my frame even though it wasn’t from his collection.

Gary and Michelle were a pleasure to work with. My glasses were fixed in 20 minutes and Gary was able to use a process that it seems only a handful of people in the entire L.A. can do. And the store looks like an antique furniture store. Very unique and fun.

Took my glasses in for a repair and they were fixed in a prompt and affordable manner despite being a tricky item to fix. Gary was very professional and the store has a nice aesthetic look to it. Both he and his assistant had very stylish glasses and you can tell they have years of experience behind them.

Great experience! Gary and the young lady in the office (wish I got her name) were very charming and personable. They gave me an excellent price and a guarantee of next day service to replace my lenses with a new prescription. When I think of how much $ and waiting I have spent at other places it kinda makes me want to kick myself for just now going to this place!

Love this place. Gary and his staff are wonderful and excellent at what they do. He doesn’t push expensive stuff on you for no reason although he does carry very nice, high-​end frames. Once I decided on a pair Gary went through all of the options and gave his honest review of the value of each of them. I wound up with a great pair of glasses that feel totally superior to the ones that I had before. Thanks Gary. I will be back when it’s time for new glasses again.

As I get older, I start to understand the importance of having a proverbial go-​to-​guy.
No more days of waiting in line for my number to be called at the local superemporium. My time is valuable, and having a specialist to consult with is the only way to go.
When I need shoes, I call my shoe-​guy.
For tailoring, I have my special tailor-​guy.
I have a butcher, a watch dealer, and now, after far too long, I finally have an optic-​guy.
Gary is hands-​down, THE guy for everything optical, and I’m proud to call him my guy.

I brought in a pair of inexpensive-​type sunshades (from Target) that got a bit crushed at some point while in my work apron. I wasn’t sure if they were fixable, or worth fixing, but Gary fixed them in a few short minutes, and also adjusted them to fit better than they ever fit before. I am very happy after my visit. Gary and Michelle offer great customer service, and I look forward to my next visit.

Brought in my busted up metal Ray Bans today, fixed all the kinks out and added a missing screw in under an hour, for FREE. Also changed out the lenses for a small cost.
Gary and Michelle were happy to give me some of the best customer service I have seen and will definitely come back for a new pair. They have a huge selection.

Every sit on your glasses? Embarrassed to say I have as well. I had only one pair of glasses and they needed to be fixed or replaced – Gucci frames – transitional. Both arms (correct terminology?) were broken off.
Gary met me with a warm greeting when I can to the family owned shop. He indicated that my glasses were pretty well damaged but could be repaired. He estimated the cost to be around $ 60.00. I was more than happy with that estimate. I went to the shop the next day and was met by a very friendly yet professional woman with a SA. accent. She said the grand total was a whopping $ 9.00. WHAT?!!
Don’t go anywhere else but here when it comes to repairing your glasses. Due to his professional and more than fair price I will return to see if he can earn my business for an additional pair of prescription glasses as well as a pair of prescription sunglasses.
I don’t know the prices of the glasses they sell but i know they are custom and beautiful.

I am very particular about things, and thus took over a year to choose sunglasses. I settled on a pair of vintage frames from eBay, and Gary did an awesome job fitting them with prescription lenses at a reasonable price.
I was told by my optometrist that only certain opticians can work with vintage frames because they can be more fragile and break more easily.
I’m extremely satisfied with the glasses I ended up with – they are one of a kind, and Gary and his staff were professional and friendly.
He has a great selection of vintage frames in his store too, and I never felt pressured.

Gary fixed the frame on my aviators in less than 15 minutes by a process similar to soddering. He also tightened the hinges and whats best is that it was very affordable. I highly recommend this place for anything sunglass/​eyeglass related business.

They have more options then anywhere else I feel prices were good and everyone was friendly. Way better then any corporate optical

Found out about Gary’s through Wired Magazine due to a shoot he’d provided glasses for based on Steve Jobs. I’d worked for Steve at PIXAR years ago and always wanted a set of glasses like his. Gary made them up for me within a week and the result is simply amazing. Great service, customer-​centric, and worth the trip from Huntington Beach any day of the week.

My husband happened upon Gary’s about 7 years ago looking to replace lenses in several pairs of glasses. This was one of the only places he could find that would do lens replacement only and in several different materials. At $ 99 a pair for each (and about the same prices today), this is a great value.
He also ordered a cool new pair of glasses on that visit. I went with him to pick up his glasses and walked out ordering 2 pairs of the most amazing, beautiful, colorful glasses that suited me perfectly. I can honestly say that having Gary pick out those colorful frames changed the trajectory of my life. Up to that point I had mostly worn pretty boring black or copper frames. When he learned that I was an artist, Gary suggested that I could look more fearless and inspiring showing my true colors, so to speak. Indeed that touch of color perked up my business as a color consultant and in sales and at events, and inspired me to add color to my wardrobe and life in general. To this day, I get compliments on my glasses and people ask me where I get them.
We’ve always gotten great service and turnaround at Gary’s. He has an incredible selection of vintage and antique frames and sunglasses. He also keeps tabs on the entire world of design and eyewear trends in particular – and has plenty of his own cool ideas like painting the edges of rimless glasses. He has frames and lenses in all price ranges and styles.

AMAZING selection of vintage sunglasses. I’ll never go to Nordstoms or Solstice for glasses ever again. So many unique pairs it’s almost overwhelming and the service is great too!
