Aquatic Safety Instruction has been providing water safety instruction in the Los Angeles, San Fernando Valley and the Conejo Valley since 1978. We are one of the founding schools offering not just a swimming program but a program focused on teaching thier students true water safety survival techniques. All of their students learn to swim but more important they learn how to become at one with the water. Proud providers for the American Red Cross since 2000. Owner/​Founder Treci Horowitz is a retired LA County Lifeguard with over 30 years experience in and around the water. She is the author of the «Gentle Approach»

History

Established in 1978.

ASI has been serving students since 1978 in the Los Angeles, San Fernando and Conejo Valley areas. Their staff are highly educated individuals with degrees in the areas of education in the elementary or middle school aged children. All Staff are certified American Red Cross and Los Angeles City WSI (Water Safety Instructor/​Lifeguard)

As a retired LA County Lifeguard water safety is truly our number one, Ms, Horowitz has over 35 years within the Aquatic Management Industry. Currently the owner of Aquatic Safety Instruction, LLC located in the San Fernando Valley. In addition, Ms. Horowitz is an Instructor Trainer for the American Red Cross, She has her Masters in Adaptive Physical Education Teacher as her teaching credentials for Elementary and Middle school age children. Ms, Horowitz has spent years developing «The Gentle Approach». This water safety program and curriculum is developmentally appropriate, gentle and progressive. Our company philosophy is we feel that every individual has the right to learn water safety. Learning how to swim is not enough, learning to survive is everything!

My four year old daughter, Zoe, started her private lessons here just last month. Zoe loves to play in the pool but she would only stay on the steps and was afraid to go under the water. After a few lessons here, she feels comfortable in the water and was no longer afraid to put her face in the water and go on the slide and learn the techniques. On her recent lessons with Ms. Treci and Ms. Kelcy, Zoe was able to go under the water and get the rings and sea animals and is really enjoying doing this exercise. Zoe loves all her instructors and is always excited and looking forward to her classes! I even want to take private lessons here! I highly recommend Aquatic Safety Instruction!

I found this business through Living Social and we are extremely satisfied with the classes. The place of instruction is at a home in Northridge with a large backyard, heated pool and sitting area. The Parent/​Tot class that my son attends is intimate (4 toddlers max per class) and gets them comfortable in the water while teaching safety tips and basic swim moves. They also incorporate songs and toys to make swimming a fun and enjoyable experience. We’ve had classes with both Treci (the head instructor) and Kelsey (her substitute) and both are very warm, welcoming and great with children. Classes are easy to book via phone/​online and they are very flexible and accommodating with your schedule. I’m unsure of prices without going through Living Social, but I hope it’s affordable enough that we can continue on here next summer. The classes are currently 30 mins, but there was a mention of making this particular class 45 mins next season which we would definitely enjoy!

I have been so pleased about the swimming instruction my daughter Ava has recieved. Ava really trusts Treci and so do I. Treci has the best interest of the children she teaches and really articulates her lessons well. My daughter is very cautious but she is a great listener and Treci and her are a perfect fit. Treci also keeps in mind who would be well suited to partner with each if sharing their swim lessons. I would highly recommed Aquatic Saftey Instruction. Have Fun!

Our 3 year old daughter has been attending swimming classes with this program and she is practically swimming by herself. They not only teach them the fundamentals of swimming but also how to safely be around water: safely enter, safely exit, float, breathe properly, and how to help yourself when you do get in trouble. In 2 months, she is swiping a lot by herself but we also feel comfortable with her being in a pool.

My family LOVES Aquatic Safety Instruction! Treci and her coaches are awesome. We’ve taken lessons at many other schools, from the YMCA to Parks & Rec to expensive private schools exclusively offering one-​on-​one lessons. None of them came close to producing the results I’ve seen with my kids since coming here. My 10 year old and 3 year old look forward to their twice weekly classes all week. My 3 year old was initially fearful and uncooperative, but Coach Mitch was incredibly patient and gentle with her, teaching her through play and letting my daughter sort of guide the lesson direction. He let her know that it’s ok to be nervous, that he would take care of her and that he was going to teach her how to be safe in the water. We eventually changed coaches to Elmira and she has been equally as gentle, patient and fun. My 3 year old is now thriving in the water, learning to swim and having a great time! My 10 year old was already a swimmer when she started and Mitch and Elmira have been working on her technique and form. She now swims the length of the pool without looking like she’s just splashing around! Her swimming is cleaner and more efficient. I love seeing her progress. I have nothing but great things to say about these folks and the contribution they make to keeping kids safe in the water. It’s so very, very important!

My son Liam, just turned 4 and has been ‘swimming’ since before he was 1. We left our other swimming lessons because of my son’s pre-​school hours. I found Treci through her living social deal, and decided to give it a go because I really wanted my son to learn to swim because of our pool.
Treci is great. She has loads of experience and she taught Liam more in the 2 months he saw her than he did the past 3 years at his other lessons. She focused on safety first; then swimming and play. She wants the kids to have fun in the pool, but they must learn to save themselves from drowning first! She started teaching Liam to tread water, breath properly and get to the side of the pool and climb out. At first I thought ‘oh my 3 year old can’t do that’ but guess what… yes he can! And he must! The pool can be fun, but only if you know how to save yourself.
Needless to say, after 2 months of lessons, my son is swimming her whole length of the pool with no help! The season of swimming is now coming to a close, but I’ll definitely be re-​enrolling my son in more lessons next summer. Thanks Treci for all your hard work and dedication to swim safety!

ASI has transformed my daughter. She started with Treci last summer and was swimming, jumping, diving for swim toys in 2 months. We have come back this summer and its like we never left. Treci has a special way of helping your child get over any fears that they might have about water and she teaches them to respect the pool. Safety first is so important! I can’t thank Treci enough for all of the help she has given us over these last 2 years and will continue with ASI for many years to come.
I happen to be at the pool with the 7⁄21 review and I can tell you that Treci was NOT rude to her staff. And she did not yell at the father to leave. She politely asked and he obliged. Unfortunately, when you bring very young children to a class and they are upset and crying it is in your child’s (and any other child who happens to be in the class or around) best interest to not be around the pool as it is very distracting for the swimmers and the teachers. It is a safety issue, as well. I would hope that parents would see that as helping and not hurting.
ASI has been a wonderful experience for both my daughter and myself. I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to transform their children into great swimmers!

I am thrilled that I found a swimming school that is well suited for my son. I am also very pleased to see how much progress my son has made in a short period of time. After several not so great experiences in other programs, I am very happy that I was referred to Aquatic Safety Instruction. Treci Horowitz and Mitch Levy are great with kids; they have patience and are able to keep their students focused on the various swimming tasks at hand. I would highly recommend Aquatic Safety Instruction!

My daughter Olivia began lessons at ASI when she was only 18 months old for a mommy-​and-​me class. It was the best experience, she loved the big floating ducky pad that she splashed and sang around! We still sing the motor boat song :).
We continued to small group lessons and she learned proper survival techniques so that if she ever fell into the water, it would allow plenty of time for someone to help her. As she got a bit older, she learned to get to the wall and properly climb out on her own! With Southern CA having the largest amount of pools, this was something that I didn’t want to leave to chance.
The instructors at ASI were patient, kind and understanding. They paced Olivia on her needs, never forcing her and were completely professional and personable. I cannot say enough great things about Treci and her staff! Thank you Treci for what you do for the safety of our kids!

Aquatic Safety Instruction Swim School was terrible with with our two year-​old child. The instructors were not adequately prepared to handle young children. Several children were crying and scared, including our child. The instructors did not know how to handle the situation. Based on their request, we upped our lessons to privates which increased our fees. But still, our child was scared and not consoled properly. After several complaints and meetings with Treci Horowitz at ASI, we finally cancelled our lessons and requested a refund which they would not oblige. They only offered us credit for more lessons which we would NEVER use.
We then enrolled our child at Jim Herrick Swim School where our child thrived, never cried, and learned to swim. The difference between the two swim schools was like night and day.
We would NEVER recommend Aquatic Safety Instruction for swim lessons.

Aquatic Safety Instruction taught me how to swim laps for exercise. Whether you are a kid or an adult like me, Treci provides professional, safe, and fun swimming lessons. I took private lessons, and was ready to exercise in the lap pool at the gym after a month. Swimming is a fantastic sport for all! After each lesson I had the pleasure of watching young children learn to swim and was very impressed with their techniques. I highly recommend Aquatic Safety Instruction for all!

Aquatic Safety Instruction really cares about making sure your child feels confident and is SAFE in the water. What more could a parent want? All the instructors are kind and patient, they speak respectfully to children and respect their individual needs, fears and aspirations. My 4 year old daughter loves coming here and I feel that the service was a real advantage over my local parks and rec programming.
